Spent the day on Saturday in Norwich with some of my (CIPD) college friends. We meet up about every three months or so and normally go in the evening for some food and chatter. Planned the day in Norwich and we all planned to go by train. I live the furthest away so was catching the 9.02 am, picking up Rachael in Ipswich and Wendy at Stowmarket. Unfortunately, Helen could not make this day as she and her husband run a catering business and most weddings are on Saturdays. Ruth who lives in Ely near Cambridge was to meet us at the station at about 10.30 am. Ruth phoned me and stated that the trains were not running on schedule and that she would need to bus half the way. Ruth has recently had a ... read more

Well, I've been here long enough that my own thoughts are in an Irish accent. That is to say, about 12 hours. I arrived this morning after a sleepless flight, and checked in at our hotel - the Clarion Limerick. Hard to miss, really. We saw it from miles away and just headed in the general direction of the modernist tower over the Shannon. I don't think the Irish breakfast agreed with me. I'm a bit sick today. I must say, their bacon is phenomenal. It's like thick-cut ham. I filled up on the breakfast buffet so that I wouldn't have to worry about lunch. After breakfast, I took a short nap and then cleaned up and headed out into Limerick. Luckily there are handy brown signs directing the aimless tourist like myself to the various ... read more

Time is flying. I cannot believe it is May tomorrow. Here the weather is beautiful and sunny and it never rains. I think global warming is well and truly affecting London weather just like everywhere. No grey, cold and rainy days and almost always sunny. Another long weekend means another trip out of London. This time to Canterbury and a stop at Wildwood on the way home. Canterbury is a fascinating place and we loved it more than the university towns. The architecture is charming and there is of-course the cathedral to visit. When we first arrived we searched everywhere for a Costa Coffee cafe as they have really good drinks and we all love what is offered. Later we had some great fish and chips for lunch and strolled around.... read more

After a long flight from Malaysia we finally arrived at Heathrow Airport. Armed with a bottle of champers we scored from the flight attendants (neither of our inflight entertainment units worked!!) we caught the tube to Amber's (thanks for putting us up!) in Fulham. Our first day was spent with Amber , who showed us the sights of Notting Hill and Portobello Rd. We brought our LP Beijing guide from the 'Travel Book Shop' where Hugh Grant worked in the film 'Notting Hill'. After some well earnt sleep, we met with Angie (who got stuck in some doors before meeting us...) and headed to Lords, the home of cricket. We missed the opening of the County cricket season by a day which started with MCC v Sussex. The pitch looked a green top so good luck ... read more

the big day dawned hot and sunny and we made the most of our last lazy start from our own bed - yes we are now officially (and intentionally) homeless! before arising to pack final items and begin - waving to Heidi and Julian as we pass the familar and idyllic surroundings in Ham, southwest London, one last time. past the pond, wisteria in full bloom, up into Richmond Park and away along the Thames which will lead us out of London to the east coast. At Waterloo we meet our support party, Guy, Fiona, George, Senai, who ride with us towards Greenwich where we meet a few more good friends to toast our departure. Greenwich is beautiful today and it's hard to leave - sad goodbyes said to everyone, we leave at last as ... read more

Well I finally managed it and got everything packed...Took 5 attempts and still feel like it weighs a ton, even though on the bathroom scales it came out at 16kg, which is well under my allowance!!! So i set off tommorrow and it still doesn't seem real, I've packed up my house, said goodbye to the folks and most of my friends. So I guess this is it, from tomorrow I will be a turtle for with all my possessions on my back....lets just hope I don't topple over, ha ha ha. Not looking forward to the flight, but reckon if i don't think about it too much I'll be fine!! So next time I post an update I will be in Bangkok!! ... read more

so here we are...day 3 of our trip. we've only had one slip up so far. we think thats a pretty good start. the slip up wasn't even a big deal and we managed to fix it...good old simpson credit union. so far we've seen EVERYTHING! our cousin Amanda has been acting as our tour guide and its been great. yesterday we spent the day walking around the streets of london just taking in the sights. by the end of the day our feet felt like they were going to fall off. we then soaked up the pub life and almost didn't make it back to our hostel on the other side of town because we missed the last tube (the subway...we're managing to pick up some of the lingo). last night we met these hilarious ... read more

There I was stood in Heathrow airport wondering how to get up to Manchester thinking 'If this was another country it would be so easy to find out the transport links' I went to the train station information desk, they didn't know times or costs of trains to Manchester, just the time of the next underground tram. I got some sterling, £100, that wouldn't last long, and found the real airport info. I decided to get the train as it was quicker than the bus. Even still I had to take the underground into London (it took over an hour) then the train from there up to Manchester, you would have thought they would have a better transport system really. I got off the train at Manchester Piccadilly and expected to see my parents waiting ... read more

Oi get up when oi want, except on Wednesdays when oi get rooodly awaykened boi the dustmen........... PARKLIFE! God, I'm so completely tempted to punctuate this blog with 'PARKLIFE' after every sentence but I think even I might get bored after the third time, so maybe I'd better just quit now while I'm ahead. So what's this update all about then? Well, this Friday night we went to the greyhound racing at Shawfield Stadium in Glasgow. Its something that's been on our list of 'stuff we want to do' for about three years and now we are pleased to say that its been crossed off, the bugs gone, and we'll probably never come back and do it again. Don't know why we fancied doing this - its not that we are into gambling or anything - ... read more

Hello everyone! Well you might as well just scrap the last entry because everything has changed since then! Instead of doing the visa process over here, I'm going to Sydney early to do the visa application there - which means that I'm leaving in TWO WEEKS! I'm flying out on Sunday 29th April, on the 18:25h British Airways shuttle to London Heathrow and then from there I am taking Qantas flight 2 to Bangkok and then onto Sydney. I'll arrive in Sydney on Tuesday 1st May at 06:05h Sydney time - which is 21:00h on Monday 30th April UK time. I love Qantas they're even organising special meals for me because of all my allergies! Bless 'em. Robert has got a holding deposit on an apartment for us and he'll find out on Monday if ... read more
