Today actually started on April 19th at about 4am when my shuttle picked me up to head to LAX. I was flying Delta for the first time in a couple years. My itinerary was LAX-SLC-ORD-MAN-EDI. Four flights until my final destination. The first two went very fast, and I finished The Kite Runner by the time I got to Chicago. I had started it on the way to Japan over 3 weeks ago. I had about 4 hours at O'Hare, and since we were flying premium economy on bmi, I was able to spend the time in the Scandanavian Airlines lounge because they are airline partners. Immediately into the flight to Manchester I wanted to sleep, but I never felt like I was sleeping really well. The flight was only 7 and a half hours, so ... read more

It basically took me a whole day to get to London from Indy- many airport delays. Amy flew up from Germany and met me at Heathrow. We then took the tube to our hotel in South Kensington to drop off our bags. We were starving, so we had fish and chips at an area pub. They serve fish and chips with peas in the UK- we were given the choice of garden or mushy peas. The mushy peas sounded scary, so I ordered garden and they turned out to be very crunchy. After lunch, we decided to go look for the Natural History & Victoria and Albert Museums which were on the same road as out hotel. We, of course, went the wrong way. By the time we figured this out and turned around, we ... read more

51 days have passed since I left work for the last time and I am already beginning to wonder where I found the time for work. I am not joking when I say I haven’t stopped from DIY, shopping, swimming, socialising, planning, driving, house stuff, pottering, holidaying its been all systems go. Oh yes and lost and lots of summer (or should that be spring) sunshine. :o) Anyway I hope you are all well and not working too hard to brighten up your day I thought I would update you on the last 51 days so what have I been up to? Laying a new 55 foot long drive at my parents (not your idea of fun?? well take a look at my mini digger!!!!). Catching up on all those little DIY jobs around the ... read more

Ah, bonnie Scotland! The land of fresh air, open spaces, sheep, phone boxes in the in middle of nowhere & really loud military fighter jets that appear when you least expect them!! When the fog cleared from the horizon and our heads, we arrived at Edinburgh airport in better condition than we arrived at Luton airport (London). We picked up our hire car and headed towards Glasgow to meet up with Niki. The countryside is very green and lush. We were pretty tired by the time we arrived at Niki's as we only had 3 hours sleep before getting on the plane but nevertheless we pushed on (still better than work). After watching the National Grand Steeple we went on an unofficial tour of Glasgow care of guide Paul. We are not sure if he ... read more

Some mornings during this trip in Europe, I would wake up and ask myself, "Why do I travel? What am I doing here?" After establishing what country I'm in, I try to take a moment to answer these questions. But only now that I am back in the United States, have I fully been able to answer them. Did I accomplish my mission in Europe? What was I searching for? Myself. My future. Others. Other perspectives. A combination of these: self-growth through daily challenges, personal experience based on travel and interaction. I have been told that people travel for three reasons: they are running away from something, running to something, or just because they love to travel. I think I am a combination of the last two. I wanted to find myself-to find out more ... read more

Wow. That is about all I can say about the pas 5 days. Monday afternoon I flew out of Belfast and arrived in Edinburgh. I checked into the hostel and it was a beautiful evening out so I just wandered around the city. I instantly fell in love with Edinburgh. It is a gorgeous city. I walked up and down Princes Street, across the bridge and down the Royal Mile to the castle. The views of the city from the top was amazing. And as the sun started to set it got even more beautiful. Tuesday morning it was up early and off to the Wild In Scotland bus tour through the Highlands and the Isle of Skye. I didn't really have any idea what I was in for, I assumed just your typical bus ... read more

When ever I’m in the U.K I have to fit in a trip up the road to see the Scottish lads. Even if it was only a long weekend! 1st up I went back to Conan Bridge to see sandy boy, not to much has changed since I was there last, Sandy has a serious girlfriend! (top chick), a few of the lads have fast bikes & I was gutted to find out the Duck (the pub I worked in ) has shut. We had a familiar weekend in Dingwall the mallard ( the pub), then to the rock (club). Sandy tried to teach me to fly fish (I’m shite) & on Sunday Sandy’s mum cooked us an awesome venison roast! Then I got the bus down to see Dougy in Glasgow, only a quick ... read more

I think I spent most of the beginning of the week (after I finally woke up) trying to sort out the clutter I’d accumulated after the past few weeks, and reading some stuff. Takes a while for my brain to re-set after so many changes, and I keep forgetting that, and keep giving myself too much to do! By Wednesday I was ready to leave the house, and went for a walk - thought it was an opportunity to test out the hiking boots over a short distance (I’ve been wearing Merrells for over a year, and find them really comfortable for walking long distances in (I used to walk nearly 2 hours a day!), and when I saw these in Switzerland - the same as I’ve worn, but with ‘ankles’, thought they were a pretty ... read more
