When in Rome...

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
In had been a long time coming, but Ange and I finally found time to take ourselves on a honeymoon. Our plan was to spend ten days split across Rome and Paris. And of course having only been back in London for 2 weeks after our last trip to Italy, it was time for another break. And I did feel like I needed one after all the celebrations and hangovers surrounding my 30th birthday in that period. We flew out of London on the Friday night after work and of course after some delays with flights, we arrived in Rome at [View Full Entry]

After leaving Florence and the Tuscany region, our plan was to make our way slowly to our next 'base camp' in La Spezia on the west coast of Italy, spending the day stopping and taking in the sites of Lucca and Pisa. But by now on our trip, we were pretty much over seeing another town and the buildings it had to offer. We were day dreaming of the beach!!! The weather was warm and all we wanted to do was kick back at the beach and not do too much of anything. So with that we decided to forgo the [View Full Entry]

After leaving Venice, we caught a train through to Florence where we based ourselves for the next three days to explore Florence itself and the surrounding Tuscan region. And anyone who knows us knows we were pretty excited about the opportunity to experience the Tuscan cuisine and wines the region is reknowned for. SIENA After a good nights sleep we ventured out for our first day in the region. We started this with a day trip to Siena. Siena itself is about an hour and a half south of Florence by train, and provides a great chance to take in the [View Full Entry]

After quite a few months of working we decided it was time to use up some annual leave and hit the continent again. After having so much fun last time we were in Italy, we thought we'd go back again and see some other parts of the country! So we started our 10 day trip in the north of Italy in Venice, quite fitting for the anniversary of our engagement :) We experienced a few train problems on our whole trip, the first and biggest was missing our stop on our way to Venice from Treviso and therefore being delayed by [View Full Entry]

With mum heading down from Scotland to spend a week relaxing in Appleby-in-Westmorland in the Lakes District of England, we took the opportunity to duck up for the weekend to catch up and see the area for ourselves. We had always heard great things about the area and it's natural beauty, so this was a trip we were looking forward to - even though we would only get to spend two days up there. We caught the train up early on the Saturday morning enjoying the picturesque trip up to Penrith where we were to meet mum and Archie. When we [View Full Entry]

Given our unplanned trip to Berlin the weekend before, we had only left our selves a few days at work before we jumped over to Amsterdam for a weekend visit. And yes, we have been over here in the UK for more than a year and we had not made it to Amsterdam yet. Even with it only being a 50 minute flight from London. So the time had come, and with a friend due to head over for work, and another friend just recently moving there from OZ, we headed off to Amsterdam for a fairly quick trip - more [View Full Entry]

Well we couldn't help ourselves - we had promised ourselves we would have a quiet few weeks in London given we had been so busy, but the opportunity to visit somewhere new over another long weekend got the better of us. So with three days up our sleeve we ventured off to Berlin to get our first experience of Germany and hopefully take in some sites while learning a bit of history. We flew out after work on Friday, and yes you guessed it, we had delayed flights and instead of getting in at about 10pm, we had to settle for [View Full Entry]

Another long weekend had rolled around and Ange and I took the opportunity to head up to Scotland and see the sights of Edinburgh and visit a friend who had recently moved there. As per usual we had airport delays that saw us not arrive into Edinburgh until about 1.30am on the Friday night (well Saturday morning really). So after a decent sleep in, we walked into the centre of town about 20 minutes from Lawrie place. We had decided to tag onto a free walking tour that departs daily - figuring this would give us the best chance to see [View Full Entry]

It had reached that time - our wedding was finally upon us and we along with 19 of our closest family and friends all descended upon Positano on the Amalfi Coast in Italy for a week of celebration and for Ange and I to tie the knot. We had people coming from Australia and the United Kingdom to join us, and beside the excitement of our wedding, it was great to have everyone together, especially since many of them we had not seen for over 12 months. Half of us where staying at Villa Oliviero, an absolutely stunning villa hanging on [View Full Entry]

and a nice way to start with a car upgrade
It was the Easter long weekend upon us and we had Ange's parents visiting from OZ, so we decided to take the opportunity to take a little road trip around parts of South West England. I must admit I was itching to get behind the wheel of a car again, given it had been about a year since I last did so. We started the trip on the Thursday by catching the train out to Bath - one of our favourite places in England and a place we wanted to make sure they got a chance to see. My mum had [View Full Entry]
