Arrived in Inverness on January 4th. What got me up here ? Work obviously !! Unfortunately can't go on moving around without a little bit of earning. Found a receptionist job in a 4 star hotel, the Glenmoriston Town House Hotel, feel free to go on the internet site, it's a nice hotel situated on the River Ness with two restaurants. http://www.glenmoristontownhouse.com/ It's now been two weeks I'm up here and enjoying myself. I've settled in a little home that I share with two other guys, that have a lot to learn on the cleaning side :) but they are very nice and helping me a lot on making me feel at home. Since I've arrived, I went to visit the famous Loch Ness and also was shown around the Black Isle. The landscape is beautiful ... read more

Just a few lines in order to update my latest moves and and show you a few sceneries. So here I am in Inverness, 2 weeks now and quite enjoying it. Before hand I spent my time with family, first near Dorchester, after near Swindon and then near Fraserburgh. It was good to see all of you and thankyou for welcoming me during Christmas & New Year, I really enjoyed it !! Here are a few pictures of the coast near Fraserburgh, sorry none of my few moves in England, the weather wasn't really the best for good pictures, how strange :) The Inverness pictures and surroundings will be on my next post.... read more

Probably my favorite day so far, because of many reasons, such as awesome sights and locations, and absolutely beautiful weather. In fact, I was just talking to the lady who owns the bed and breakfast I'm at, and she said it's unseasonably hot for Inverness. Apparently this is an incredibly unpredictable area weather-wise, with it suddenly hot and then bitter cold, and then rainy - all in the same day. But today it held at a nice 75 degrees. After another hearty Scottish breakfast, this time with porridge, I took a bus just outside of town to another very famous battle, Culloden. Hands down, this has been one of my favorite visits to a battlefield. Culloden took place in April of 1746, when Bonnie Prince Charlie as the Scots call him tried to regain the English ... read more

Missed Harry's breakfast, mainly on purpose. Another Scottish breakfast and I might drop dead in the street. So grabbed a quick coffee en route to Waverly Station and the short hour or so ride up to Stirling, the true heart of Scotland. This little city was actually once the capital of Scotland, and I think contains far more Scottish history than Edinburgh. I went mainly because it's an extremely quaint, inviting place, and also because probably the two most important battles in Scottish history happened in the surrounding fields. I first took a short bus ride to Bannockburn, where, in the early 1300s, the Scots once and for all defeated the English under Edward II. For Scots, this is like Waterloo, which I also visited a couple years ago, to the English, or like Gettysburg to ... read more

Day 3 - Loch Ness Unfortunately our day of scenic touring turned out to be more like driving in the rain. We left Oban and traveled to the highlands, visiting Lochs along the way. Made our way through Fort William and passed rugged and barren landscapes bordering misty lochs till one looked much like another. We paralleled the Caldonia Canal that connects Inverness to the sea, at the time a engineering feat. Loch Ness is an amazing body of water. Twenty-three miles long and deeper in the middle than the North Sea and dark black with dissolved peat no one really knows what lurks below the surface. There have been credible reports of sightings but other than the tourist industry, no one really believes in Nessy. Most biologists think the sightings are of giant eels who ... read more

After one day of relaxation, I was off again to travel! My mom, sister, brother, aunt and grandma all arrived in the morning after flying for 12 hours. We then got on another plane, which they were not too excited about. We arrived at Edinburgh and found our way to our hotel, the Jury's Inn. We had a bad experience there. We were trying to contact some family what live in Keith. Apparently, they had called our hotel and the person who answered wasn't accommodating and we never knew that they called us. Because of that, we didn't get to meet up with our family. So I wouldn't recommend that hotel. By the time we got in town it was pretty late and time for dinner. That was nearly impossible to navigate. Every pub seemed to ... read more

Today we first visited Loch Ness. The loch isn't very wide but it is incredibly deep--almost a thousand feet deep. The rocks that Charles skipped into the loch had a long way to descend after their final bounce. At the Official Loch Ness Monster Visitor's Center we watched and interesting presentation about the history of the Monster. I have included a clip of part of this presentation. It was very psychedelic. During it a strange whitish smoke was piped into the room. I'm not saying that the gas that filled the room was derived from a certain weed that grows along the loch, but afterwards I had the munchies and ate a bag of haggis-flavored Doritos. Urquhart Castle was nice castle that is now in ruins. It was blown up in 1692 as the last occupant ... read more

That is the quote on the wall of my Inverness hostel. I fell in love with it! It's so true! Mistakes have to be made and wrong roads need to be taken in order to experience and learn. Today I took several wrong turns and felt stupid several times. And a little homesick, but thats beside the point. I checked out of my Edinburgh hostel begrudgingly this morning and caught the train at Waverley to a very frigid train stop at Perth--where I totally ate it on the platform. I'll elaborate. My pack is unusually heavy due to my recent purchases, so as I was waiting for my Inverness change, I decided to rest my backpack on a grab bar/post thingy. It was about thigh height so when I bent down awkwardly, my backpack slipped back ... read more
