Mum and I set off from Angel to connect with our tour bus which would take us to Stonehenge, Bath, through the Cotswolds and into Stratford upon Avon to see the birthplace of William Shakespeare. It was a lovely trip through some beautiful parts of Southwest England. Stonehenge is one of Englands most popular tourist sites and always crowded! The 5000 year old stone circle remains a mystery as to what it originally was - a huge astronomical calander or a place of sun worship and sacrifice? Construction began in 3000BC and consisted of four distinct stages of construction. The first stage - the Earthworks or Henge began when the outer circle comprising a ditch, bank, and the Aubrey holes was erected. 1000 years later the second stage - the Arrival of the Bluestones began when ... read more

Firstly I would like to say that all world cup referees need sacking, cos that penalty kick to Italy was absolute BULLSH*T and no we're not being bad sports, its true it was absolute cr*p and Australia would have won if the ref knew how to ref, and if Harry played. Arrrgghhh, will try not to dwell on it, but its not easy when there's many a depressed Aussie moping around. Okay, new topic.... Well, its been an interesting couple of days for us, so I'll start at the beginning. Sunday we went to Stonehenge, which for those of you who have been living under a rock and have never heard of it, (see my pun there?) its a bunch of huge rocks in the middle of nowhere, that at one stage formed a large circle, ... read more

Before we start the next blog, a couple of things to quickly note: - Apologies to Bill and Norma for not mentioning you in the Dublin blog. The blog has now been updated. - A few blog entries will be sent out in the next 3 to 4 days. We want to make sure that we are up to date before we head to Argentina. The New Forest, Tank Museum, and Stonehenge After arriving back from Dublin the night before, we (Bill, Norma and us) all had a good night's sleep and then headed off to the New Forest in Hampshire. About a two hours drive from Lancing. We spent the day driving around and then stayed in Poole (just outside of Bournemouth) for the night. The next day we headed to the Tank Musuem in ... read more

So on our return from visiting my relatives in Chesire we were looking forward to a day trip to Salisbury to see the famous Stonehenge! Luke's South African friend Norman and his wife Janine, and there younger relatives, drove us up there on a very cold and wet day. It was absolutely freezing and we had to walk around the monument with an umbrella. On such a miserable day it was surprising that there were many people there. We were given a audio player to listen to as we strolled around. It was good because there were certain points where you could stop and enter a certain number into the audio player and it would play audio commentary telling you the history of the henge and focussing on the area where you were standing. I must ... read more

Growing up in Australia, Stonehenge seemed so far away. I had wanted to go there for such a long time, so it was a pretty special day. It's a shame you are not allowed to touch the stones, but a great experience nonetheless. Apparently the Druids had nothing to do with Stonehenge. Whenever I think of Druids the image of Getafix from Asterix & Obelix pops into my head. Why am I telling you this? I have no idea. Salisbury Cathedral is nearby, so I stopped off to have a look there as well.... read more

We woke up early and started on our 8-mile hike to Stonehenge. The hike through English countryside was invigorating. The farm animals we encountered on our way made for unforgettably funny moments. We often had to dredge through pastures of sheep poop. You may not know this, but sheep poop more than any other animal you have ever seen. And, they poop while they are doing other things, like walking, or drinking, or sleeping. British horses were the friendliest lot of animals I have seen. They would all come up to the fence and let us pet them. Jane had a special way with the horses, and many of the horses we encountered seem to be quite enamored with her (see photo). There is no way to predict rain in England. The sky may be gloomy, ... read more

May 21st 2005 Bayswater, London, England. Today I was up at the crack of dawn and off on a £15 bus tour to see Stonehenge and the nearby town of Salisbury. The bus was pretty awful, with very tiny seats and no legroom. People who know me are cognizant of the fact that I'm not anywhere near approaching tall, yet even I couldn’t fit my legs into the space between my seat and the one in front. It was also booked out, so there was no room to be had with an empty seat to the side, either. But, hey, you get what you pay for. Happily, that is where the day's negatives ended. The legendary Stonehenge, set high on a field on the Salisbury Plains, really is pretty darned awesome. The initial site was actually ... read more

What have I been up to? Been a while since an update. Had another trip up north to Ashbourne, big fun as always, full weekend with a comute to London on Monday morning. Works alright, biggest headache is the computers, but Ive been told Im going to the top of the list as this thing is super shagged. Had a great time at kiwi Johns bday party a couple of weekends ago at the blag club, followed on the Sunday night by English Alexs birthday at Underdog, complete with pirate fancy dress. Me and some workmates have discovered a couple of bars around work with 2 for 1 happy hours on Friday nights, so they've become a regular fixture! Spent this weekend just gone with Alan and Fiona down in New Milton, by Southhampton. Always nice ... read more
