So I have a job! My dream job at that and it is in the most beautiful area. With work due to start in about two weeks I was on the hunt for a flat, and although my trip to Bury St Edumunds wasn't successful on the flat front it was great to see around the region that would soon be my home. Bury St Edmunds is about 1 1/2 hours from Biggleswade but it seems a longer drive than that. I had heard it was a 'destination point' and now I know why. The history here dates back to the 12th century! The town is much larger than I thought....for some reason I always imagine small wee villages with cobbled streets. Well, Bury has the cobbles streets, but it is quite developed and has grown ... read more

Sightseeing in Lavenham On 24 June, except Mark who came to the dining table at 9:30, we all got up by 9 o’clock and had breakfast at the big dining table. As expected, it was bright and sunny in the morning. At 10:30, John and Mary drove us to Lavenham. After parking their cars, we popped to Lavenham Parish Church, St Peter and St Paul’s Church. My mother started sketching the church at the entrance. After that, we entered the church and strolled through the Nave, aisles, and choir. There were a lot of tombs and memorials of the people who were associated with the church and Lavenham. I showed my parents “Baby Brass”, ancient font, the war memorial, and the Spring Parclose, where the tomb of Thomas Spring who offered generous amount of money for ... read more

My time in Sydney was drawing to a close and for once we had seen everything we had planned. It was the 3rd May, leaving me a couple more days in the beautiful city. Oli, Alex and Zach had managed to seal a free meal and washing machine at Oli's cousin, a massive help with three weeks still to go. I was due home in a few days and like to keep Mum busy so I decided to spend a day on my own in Sydney and planned to meet up with a distant relation for dinner. I spent most of the day shopping and generally exploring areas we had not. However, I let time get the better of me and suddenly realised I needed to get back to the hostel and get ready for my ... read more

It was a very clear and sunny in Bury St Edmunds on 1 November 2005. John, Mary, Mark and I strolled through the historical spots of Bury St Edmunds. After leaving the Car Park, we stopped at the 13th century Abbot’s Bridge crossing over the river. We weren’t able to cross over the bridge, but the authentic stone arch bridge offered a picturesque sight with willows, golden, red, and yellow coloured leaves, and waterfowl, which were reflected on the water. Next, we entered the Abbey Garden, and walked around the flowerbeds, rose garden, and aviary. Winter flowering plants e.g. pansies, primulars, planted in the flowerbeds. After ambling through the garden, we approached St Edmundsbury Cathedral from the rose garden. The cathedral looked a brand new building as it had been re-built with the millennium project. We ... read more

25, November 7:45 am Today’s the start of Turkey Break! However, its 7:45 am and we’ve already encountered some problems. The morning began smoothly with the taxi arriving early, got to ElWe y in about 20 minutes and the rise cost less than 30 quid. We even ended up being 40 minutes early for our train, which for me is really good. We finally got settled onto out train when the announcement that a fallen trees was blocking the tracks and we would have to switch trains immediately if we wanted to be on time for London. A fallen tree, man-o-man! This means that we now end up at a different station in London and have to take the tube to the correct station; hopefully we don’t miss our train! 10:22 pm As you can tell ... read more

So here is my confession for the month of November on the 4th of November I was beat up by a two year old, literally. The story begins that I was leading circle time righ before lunch. Part way through a story one of the boys started to beat up on another little girl for blocking his view of the book. He is much bigger than the girl so I was worried for her and thus moved the boy out of the cirlce. I guess that upset him even more because he started hitting me with a piece of toy celery from our kitchen area. I must admit that it felt like I was getting a shot in the arm. I tried to ignore him by continuing with the story and I guess that made him ... read more

'Ello from acorss the pond! Sorry about slacking on my blog. Anyway, its been a crazy time since Ive last written. First of all, as I was taking some of our kids on a walk to see the babies (and mind you these are supposed to be our 5 most well behaved kids). We walked past a couple of baby rooms and everything was going fine and dandy. Then all of a sudden 4 of the 5 kids dropped the rope, right as we were passing the lobby. One kids almost escaped through the door to the parking lot, one little girl went down the hall and two other kids just jumped up and down squeeling and laughing. The 5th child was a little boy who, as he saw me get upset, got upset at ... read more

So Im enjoying work more and more everyday, especially now that I am getting the hang of how my classroom works. However, I must admit that today crossed the line into crazy land. The biting was a tad less today but I did get to experience something quite funny (at least it was funny a while after it happened). Anyway, I had been at work about an hour when we went outside so the kids could run out some of the energy. Well one of the girl's mom, who works at the CDC, came out to play with her for a bit. However, she soon went back to work and Elzie had a major freakout. She started screaming and crying for her mom to come back. I went over and picked her up telling her ... read more

Well last week was a short week: 3 days but that helped to ease us into what its going to be like working at the CDC for the next three months. Thursday was actually a fun day which made it go by quickly. In the morning I found myself thrown into the 1 year old room because they were very short on staff that day. Being in the 1 yr old room room made me realize what a developmental difference there is between the 1 yr olds and the 2 yr olds. Just one year makes a huge difference. For instance I have come to appreciate that although 2 year olds still scream and hit each other they can actually respond to your questions and tell you how they are feeling or what book they want ... read more

So its true: the "Terrible 2s" do exist and man are they crazy little buggers! Now I am used to working long shifts and I am used to working with kids, just not 8 hours with 14 two year olds. Man they are very entertaining but I was exhausted after my first day. Yesterday was my first day at the centre and I was supposed to be a shadow. But of course after about an two hours I was thrown the gist of things. Actually one of the very first things I got to do was file an incident report because I was the only that witnessed one child bite another and it left a nice indentation. The kids are reaching an age where sharing is a newly encouraged action but one that is still quite ... read more
