Geo: 51.3347, 1.41787After a great trip to Malta we headed back to Ramsgate. We did not get back into Ramsgate until 11 at night. We headed straight for Ken and Debbie's home. We arrived to a warm reception and an amazing late night feast. It was so good to see or friends and catch up with them. Since we moved from Ramsgate Ken and Debbie got a English Bull Dog named Hendrix. He is the most lovable little guy ever. We went to Thai Orchid restaurant the next night to get our favorite lamb mango. It tasted even better than I remembered. Sunday night Debbie made Sunday roast dinner and boy was it a treat. Monday morning I got up early and headed for the train station to get into London early. I went to Brew ... read more

Geo: 51.3347, 1.41787After our long journey we were thrilled to be back in Ramsgate. Ruth made us a yummy dinner and we were off to the Monty for a pint. Eddie, Graham and Chris joined and made it feel like we never left. The morning came in a hurry and I was off to The Ramsgate Brewery to brew the next in the line of the Conspiracy brews. Left Coast Conspiracy. An American hopped pale ale. After the brew was transferred to the FV and the copper was scrubbed clean, the brew day was complete and we were off for the Ramsgate pub crawl with the gang. It was a mix of our old favorites and one new pub. The beer was flowing and tasting great. It was so great to be back in the old ... read more

Lovely night in the Premier Inn and journey went well. This morning the sun was shining so I wanted to go to the beach but Sam saw a sign for a Spitfire museam. not my idea of a nice way to spend the morning but he really loved it and it was an excellent display. Sam was really excited and loved the 2 bullets he bought for a bargain of 25p each! Ferry check in and crossing all went well and then the real test started driving from the port! Just followed everyone else which was Ok but completely forgot to look for road signs. Think we had a bit of a detour and saw lots of villages we hadn't intended to see but got the Ypres before t got dark. Passed the first test of ... read more

Geo: 51.3347, 1.41787This is a tough one to write. I can't believe we have to leave. My job is done here and we are moving to San Diego, CA. I am really happy and lucky to have a job but we are not ready to leave England. This has become our home and we have so many friends.... I have to keep telling myself that we will be back soon for a visit. And we will. The photos attached to this blog are from the Great Wall of Ramsgate. How better to sum up such a fantastic town than by letting the locals tell the story. Every painting brings memories... well, not every painting... but most. There are so many people that we will miss dearly. Thank you so much to each of them for making our ... read more

Geo: 51.3347, 1.41787As a birthday gift to me Kim had booked a boat ride from Ramsgate Harbor out to the wind farm and the Maunsell Forts. The wind farm is one of several in Southeastern Kent and is off the shore of Herne Bay/Whistable. They are pretty to see spinning from the shore but it is not until you are up close do you understand the size of these monsters. Near by the wind farm is one of three remaining Maunsell Forts. This one is the one built at Shivering Sands. From Wikipedia: The Maunsell Sea Forts were small fortified towers built in the Thames and Mersey estuaries during the Second World War to help defend the United Kingdom, named after their designer, Guy Maunsell. They were decommissioned in the late 1950s and later used for ... read more

Geo: 51.3347, 1.41787 June 5th was the 11th anniversary of Kim and I getting married. It seems like just yesterday. Boy time flies when your having fun. On our anniversary, I usually take Kim out for a nice dinner and get her a small present. This year I was having a hard time finding that certain something special. So instead of buying her another piece of jewelry that she would not wear I decided to take her for several surprises that I thought she would enjoy. Saturday afternoon we hopped in the car and drove into Sandwich to take a boat ride down the Stour river in hopes of seeing some seals. This is something we have wanted to do for a long time but for what ever reasons we had not done. The boat ride ... read more

Geo: 51.3333, 1.43333Hello Everyone!I thought I would write a quick note about the happenings here in the Garden of England... that's Kent County's motto. We have traveled a lot so far this year but I thought you might be interested in everyday life across the pond. Before I start though I am happy to say that TravelPod is getting a face lift! Finally! They have cleaned things up on the "inside" and will be updating the "outside" very soon. It is certainly an improvement! Anyway, 2009 has been pretty good so far. The winter seemed long but not as long as it seemed in Michigan! Hard to complain when we kept hearing about snow, snow, snow. In January a crazy thing happened here... a huge ship lost it load of timber. Ok, well what is so ... read more

http://www.justgiving.com/3marathonchallenge Three weeks to go until the first Marathon and it was time to undertake our next big training challenge. Today would see us run 20 miles along the Kent coast. After the celebration of last weekends half marathon personal best, I thought yeah why not, lets just stick another 7 miles on top, could be fun right? So now I’m a proper athlete it was time to get serious about the pre-race routine. Saturday night I crashed around Marathon Paul's house, as he would also be running tomorrow. Being the finely tuned running machines that we are, we knew it was important to get the right balance of light exercise and nutrition the night before a big race. Well come on now, what did you think we were going to do....sit around playing video games ... read more
