Well, on Saturday, I had the chance to participate in the Course de l'Escalade. It is a famous race in Geneva that celebrates Escalade. This happened December 12, 1602 when the Duc de Savoie and his cohorts tried to take Geneva by night. The citizens of Geneva would not be had. They came out to fight in their pyjamas and fought off the Savoyards. So, the race is a 7.2 km race through the old town of Geneva. It was fun. I got to run at night and the atmosphere was neat. There were a lot of people that lined the course and that were cheering for the racers. This was the first run that I had done since the death race in August, so I was hoping to arrive at the 45 minute mark. However, ... read more

Not Much to Report!
Published: November 28th 2011Europe » Switzerland » South-West » Geneva » La PlaineSaturday we had a good day. We went to a Christmas market that was happening in a nearby town called Russin. There were a lot of trinkets to buy of course. Avery tried some hot wine and liked it. We tried roasted chestnuts, but weren't too fond of them. We did end up buying some local meat. We are going to try our first Swiss sausage sometime this week. That was about all of the excitement from this week. I don't even have any pictures to share! Other than that, I was as sick as a dog Wednesday, and Thursday last week. Of course, me being the bone head that I am, still go into to work. I had the shakes, I had a fever, I was light-headed, my nose was running and to top it ... read more
Well, it is the second last week of November. I do not know where the time goes. It just always seems to fly by. These days, I am feeling quite busy. I have my report cards to finish up, marking to finish, parent/teacher interviews are forthcoming, I will be going to a camp for one week with my class in mid-December and I have to get my class ready for story-telling evening that we are having December 20th. I have to say that I have found some solace in the theme song of Fraggle Rock. Part of it goes as follows, "Dance your cares away, worries for another day . . ." I will let tomorrow worry about itself, each day has enough worries of its own. Anyways, this past week was a good one. One ... read more
Lange ist's her, seit meinem letzten Eintrag. Zuerst mal gings Mitte Juni per Velo in den ... read more
Das macht echt Freude, meine Aufgabe ... read more
Time Keeps on Tickin' . . .
Published: November 14th 2011Europe » Switzerland » South-West » Geneva » La PlaineWell, time seems to continue marching along. I can't believe how fast it is going. Next week report cards go home and I start doing parent/teacher interviews. Over the weekend, we made a great discovery. We found a swimming pool/water park that was kid friendly. The other pools that we have been to in Switzerland and France have been strictly pools for swimming. No fun and games for the little ones. So, Saturday, we went to Vitam Parc where there were tons of things for Isabelle and Myles to do. The only problem, we kind of got lost getting there. The upside of that is that Myles fell asleep, so he was able to have a long nap because we were a bit lost. I forgot to mention last time that Myles has been saying, "Oh, ... read more

Week Nine was Fine!
Published: November 7th 2011Europe » Switzerland » South-West » Geneva » La PlaineWell, I enjoyed my first week back after our vacation to Paris. I can't believe that it is already November and that I have been teaching for nine weeks. Time flies when you're having fun. We celebrated Halloween with Myles and Isabelle last Monday night. We dressed them up and then had then go outside of the apartment. We then told them to knock on our door and say trick or treat. We opened our door and gave them a treat. They loved doing that. We did this because we didn't think that they celebrated Halloween in Avully/Chancy. However, I learned from my students that some of them were actually going out, dressed up, to collect some candy. I told them that the deal was that they had to share half of their candy with their ... read more
Happy cows reaching new heights
Published: January 1st 2012Europe » Switzerland » South-West » LauterbrunnenI was warned about Switzerland.. that I might just fall in love with it and experience a place like no other, and I certainly did! As we wound our way around the mountains, through tunnels, traffic and trees, stopped for a photo opportunity, my last blue bus ride came to an end when we arrived at Camping Jungfrau. Under a dark, starry sky, my new travel mates Kelly and Gilete (a Canadian and an American) enjoyed a traditional Swiss meal of potato rosti and were hungry to see what the morning light would serve up. I should point out that I wasn’t camping in a tent, but slept in a warm, comfortable cabin. The chilly weather outside wasn’t very tent-friendly! Apart from that, the view and location of where I was some-what different to what I’ve ... read more
