Je t'aime.... read more

Mountains and Chocolate and a place to finally relax! The drive from Florence to Lucerne was long, but beautiful once we got into Switzerland. I think I counted at least 9 waterfalls- and that was when I was looking for them for about an hour. One word to describe Switzerland- AMAZING! It was so beautiful! It was so nice to be in Lucerne, after 6 crazy long days in Itlay. Lucerne is a relatively small city on Lake Lucerne and it surrounded by the Swiss Alps. You couldn't ask for better scenery and the weather was gorgeous while we were there, but very hot! That night we arrived we just walked into town and had a relaxing drink at this cute bar. (I had a diet coke, or coke light, as they call it here, ... read more

We arrived in Lucerne on the 3rd of July to much colder weather. Our hotel was 7000ft off the ground up mount Pilatus and so we had to catch cable cars (a little like chair lifts) up to the top which took approximately 30 minutes to reach the hotel. AS you can imagine being so high up the mountain, it was just freezing - we felt like we were in the middle of the snowfields! In saying that, can you imagine our surprise and shock when it did actually snow and at times quite heavily on the 4th and 5th of July… so much for summer in Switzerland!!! A lot of people were so excited, including Steve - who had never seen snow before. We must say, we were not expecting these low temperatures here and ... read more

After breakfast we headed straight for Lucerne, Switzerland. It was a long, but interesting bus ride, deeply enriched by our tour guide, Andre. As we’ve talked to him more throughout the trip we have been increasingly impressed. He studied at Oxford and the Universtiy of London, among other schools and speaks 9 languages fluently. He used to teach at the London school of economics, where he taught John F. Kennedy. He actually just knows everything about everything! Every sight and every district we come across he is able to discuss with thorough knowledge, interspersing his tours with quotations and readings from interesting and relevant articles he has recently come across. We arrived in Lucerne, where we were released onto the shops. It seems like that is the main attraction here, though there are so many ... read more

Okay. So I am going to make a trip to Germany and Switzerland! The Swiss Alps are soo beautiful! I loved it. Lucerne is a little expensive. The francs exchange better (1$=1.15franc) but it evened out with dinner being about 20-70francs! Soo: Sunday, May 27: We left Germany and crossed into Switzerland and went through the Black Forest, stopping at an area where they build coo-coo clocks. These forests are named this because they are where bandits used to hang out and ambush people. Also, I think some of the Brothers Grimm fairy tails were based on these forests...at least that is what someone told me:) Afterwards, we passed the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe. Then it was off to Lucerne. In Lucerne we had a short walking tour. We saw the Lowendenkmal ... read more

So Lucerne was awesome. One of the prettiest cities that we have seen so far. Expensive though. We had a lot of fun there. The first day we were there we took a day trip up to the Alps which was amazing. We hiked up to the highest point of Mt. Palatus... I am probably spelling that wrong. It was really cool, we got to watch about a dozen hang gliders jump of of the mountain. Crazy stuff right there, I know i would never ever be able to do that. The 2nd day we took another day trip to Bern. We didnt find much to do but it was nice walking around because the city was really pretty. They had this bear pit in the middle of the city which was also pretty cool. ... read more

Innsbruck, Austria to Switzerland Europe » Switzerland » Lucerne By Kim and ColleenMay 13th 2007 Saturday After a quick look around Innsbruck we visited a glass factory.saw some amazing crystal figurines, all way out of our price range of course, but nice to look at. We headed through the Austrian Alps to Switzerland and passed through many tunnels through the mountains, the longest was 14 kms long. Switzerland isn't part of the European union so we had to have our passports ready at the border, the other countries don't have any border controls. We had lunch in Leichtenstein, goulash soup at a hotel, there were lots of flies there, it made us feel at home, 2 bowls of soup and a g... read more
