Geo: 46.948, 7.44815Finally on to Switzerland, despite the bus breaking down again, and us having to get some crappy Italian try hard imitation coach. on the way out of italy we visited the leaning tower of pisa. this thing really is leaning... got some coool photos. the surrounding area and cathedreal is also impressive. anyway, from there we got through disgraceful traffic to come to switzerland. the night consisted mainly of drinks at a bar and then a club afterwards. also saw the renowned lion monument, which is dedicated to the virtue of swiss mercenaries. anyway, im in a net cafe above the swiss army knife shop, il grab one as a souvenir. today has been a lil depressing, as terrible rain and fog half ruined our cable car trip up to the scenic mountaintop, and ... read more

Quick Notes: 1. In Switzerland you have four languages from which to choose. Only problem is that we don't speak any of them well. 2. I've realized that my conversational skills have dropped tremendously, but my communication skills have advanced greatly. This point was driven home as I tried to explain to our Spanish friends the difference between goats and sheeps. "Baaaahhhh" or "Baaaahhh (with me pulling at my beard to resemble a goat). 3. We found a way around having to use the gross campground bathrooms: Cheese Fondue! Switzerland is the most beautiful country ever. seriously. the first day we pulled into lucerne was beautiful, but it was later in the afternoon so we decided to catch up on our housecleaning and did some laundry. that was dumb because it rained straight the next 2 ... read more

Rain, rain, and more rain - that's what we mainly saw when we arrived in Switzerland. It's good we like it here so much, I don't think we would have tolerated such weather anywhere else. Our first week was spent exploring some new areas in the southeast and around Lake Lucerne. The towns of Chur, Arosa, and Pontresina were all nice, but too rainy to photograph. So just imagine nice Swiss villages with old towns, mountain views, and scenic lakes. Arosa is known as a mecca for the "unhealthy wealthy" and was very sedate and upscale. Lucerne remains our favorite Swiss city. No matter how many times we walk over the old Kapellbrücke Bridge or visit the lion at the Lövendenkmal it, still seems like such a special place. Lake Lucerne is also beautiful with lots ... read more

Okay i know i've been home for almost a week and I have left you all hanging but jet lag and catching up with all my friends has kept me fairly busy. Okay so where was I......SWITZERLAND! Once again Switzerland is the most beautiful place i've ever seen. All you see is SUPER green rolling hills with a back drop of enormous snow capped mountains. Some of the group went white water rafting through the alps but I choose to skip it since i've been rafting every summer for the last 3 or 4 years. We arrived at our camp site where we were staying fairly late so we went right to dinner where it was my turn to help out with the cooking and serving. I don't know if i've mentioned before but to keep ... read more

In Hawaii, though we speak English, we have our own colloquial which may cause the visitor to go “huh?”, when they hear us speak among ourselves. For example, if we want to describe a specific food or dish as being exceptionally delicious, we may describe it as “broke da (the) mouth”. Sometimes in cooking contests, contestants will name their specialty as “Broke da Mouth Chili”, “Broke da Mouth Ribs”, “Broke da Mouth Upside Down Cake”, yadda, yadda, yadda. Hence the title of my Post of “Broke Eye Mountains”. Instead of mountains, I could have used “Town”, “Bridge” “River”, etc. because they were also indeed very beautiful, but seems like Mountains, sounded more catchy, for some reason. We had to travel through a tunnel which seems to have taken 20 minutes to pass through, so I can ... read more

Hi everyone. We are in the swiss alps. Having the best time ever. Amsterdam was so amazing. And we Loved Germany. we ll be headiing back that way tomorrow. Lost my camera in Amsterdam but had the best night ever so it was well worth it. Have met some really nice Aussie's that will be coming to San Diego in Nov. Everytime we hang out with them they lose a wallet so maybe we won't be doing that too much anymore. Not even as high as the cabin! Went to an awesome castle in Germany and got locked it two times as they were closing. Went to a the anne frank house, heineken brewery, cruised the canals, walked the red light district, went to a "culture show", and then partied the night away in Amsterdam. It's very ... read more

Lucerne is a little city and we were able to hit all the major attrations in one day. The weather was a bit gloomy, but the city was so beautiful that it really didn't matter. We crossed over a 14th Century wooden roofed bridge called the Kapellbrucke. We walked along the flower lined river to get to the Museggmauer. It is the only remaining thing of the old Midevil citys ramparts. There were 4 towers still acessable and parts of the wall you could still walk along. We climbed the first and tallest tower. After climbing about a million steep steps we discovered that it had no access to the wall! But we did have beautiful views of the lake and city below so I guess it was worth it :) In the east of the ... read more

HUGE DAY!! As part of the optionals you can do a cable car ride to the top of Mount Pilatus. I signed up and the next thing I knew we were heading there. It took about an hour to get to the top with two short stops along the way. The views were amazing. Once you reach the top there are a bunch of resturants to get some good food and hot chocolate. There is also a place where you can go buy some little gifts to bring home. The air just smells sweeter up that high. After you are given tons of time to do whatever you would like on the mountain we all met by the train station to take the train down the mountain. It's the steepest train in the world. It took ... read more

So, we say goodbye to Paris as we head to Switzerland!! We arrived in Switzerland and went to some shops that work with Contiki. They stayed open late for us and allowed us to look around and see if we like anything. They also give you amazing discounts and really work to make sure you like everything. I bought a watch for my dad and a Swiss Army knife. They engrave up to 16 or more letters depending on the size of the knife for free with purchase. I got my name and then Contiki engraved on it. It came out amazing. We arrived in our hotel, hotel Flora. We were right next door to a chocolate shop, so of course you could find many of us in there eating away. We went to dinner at ... read more
