Yeah! I am finally in Spain!! I arrived into Madrid last night and met my brother, Craig, at the airport. He is traveling with me for the first two weeks of my trip. We managed to make it to our hostel ok and then took a stroll to see the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) and the Cathedral next door at night. They were stunning at night. Today we got up and went straight to the café to eat churros con chocolate. I have been waiting 8 years to eat them. They were just as good as I remember the last time I had them in Spain. Afterwards, we headed off to the Reina Sofia museum. This is the museum that holds Picass’s famous Guernica painting as well as the works of several other very famous painters ... read more

¡Hola amigos! Well, it´s already the "fin de semana" (weekend) for me! Madrid has una fiesta tomorrow so there is no class. So, because this is our only free 3 day weekend, a group of us are going to Tarifa, a city on the southern tip of Spain! It was so crazy trying to book this trip to Tarifa on such short notice. If I learned anything from this experience, it was that the sooner you can plan trips, the better! At first we were trying to figure out where to go....the island of Mallorca, Tarifa, London....eventually, we decided on Tarifa because plane tickets were crazy expensive trying to get them 4 days before! Then we had to go to the "estacion de los autobuses" to get our tickets. But before we were going to buy ... read more

¡Hola! So today was my second day of classes at La Universidad de Nebrija. I can walk to school in about 20 minutes so I am very lucky. It takes some of the people in my group 1 hour to get to school by metro! On Mondays and Wednesday, I have theater at 11:40 til 1:00. Talk about a boring class! It was okay for the first 40 minutes or so, but she just rambled on about what was theater....una experiencia....la lituratura viva.... you would think that theater would be interactive and fun, well, think again. It was kind of hard to concentrate for so long because she is speaking in Spanish (obviously, haha) and I really have to concentrate to understand what she is saying. We are going to read some plays in that class ... read more

Yesterday, I flew a four person plane!!!!! okay, I may not have taken off, or landed, but once up in the air, I had put on the headphones, grabbed the controls and headed out to Toledo, aproximately 2 hours in the car from Madrid, but 45 min on plane. Our capitan, Mr. Alejandro Basilio...aka...mi Pedro..... took us up into the blue on a beautiful Sunday morning... Laini also came as offical cinetographer and she was a bit apprehensive at first...but the Capitan reassured us that we were all very safe. Once up in the air, we travelled quite slow, about 200 kilometers or so....4,000 meters high! Alejandro did this one trick, where he actually climbs up into the air creating an arch with the plane, then quickly decends! This creates everything else in the cockpit that ... read more

¡Hola! So I´ve been in Madrid almost a week now, and, wow, it has been awesome so far. I feel like I´m taking a 3 month vacation....maybe that´s because classes haven´t started for us yet. Classes start today (in 1 hour actually) and so I guess that will make it feel a little more like school. :( Thursday the rest of my group arrived. I waited in the airport for 2 hours for them to arrive. One girl had lost her luggage (I guess that´s Madrid for you) so that´s why it took them so long. I was so excited to see everyone, to have someone to talk to and explore Madrid with. The first 2 days on my own were exciting, but I was still glad to see my group again. Friday we had to ... read more

I¨ Im sitting in a cyber cafe right now in....Madrid! I made it safely yesterday with only a few minor glitches. I left from Charlotte at 5:20 on the 29th and flew from there to Newark, NJ. It was really cool flying into that airport because I could see the Empire State building and the Statue of Liberty from there. I then took a flight to Lisbon, Portugal. The seat that was assigned to me was a window seat except, ironically, there was no window there at all because it was the exit row. So I quickly grabbed one of the middle seats (you know the ones with 4 seats across and was able to sleep for about 3.5 hours on the plane. I landed in Portugal around 8:30, or 2:30 a.m. in my body´s time. ... read more

Okay... I am so sorry to say, I have no pictures....my camera broke two weeks ago in France and I have had no time to get it checked out, but I wanted to say a quick little something about what is going on now..... Well, I spent 20 some days in France. The first two weeks in Toulouse....a great city, that is actually the third largest in France, but it felt so quaint and charming. I liked it. I spent may hours along the tree lined banks of the canals stetching and writng in my journal. It was realtively windy , but I invited the breeze to mask the heat of the sun. On most of my days off, I tried to use the lap top and find free WI- FI connection. Aggravating at times, but ... read more

Today is full of beauty. I arose rested and calm, feeling full and well. My days past have been flighty and dreamy; full of restlessness and uncertainty. Definition eluded me, and the spiral I walked left me dizzy and estranged. Today, however, housed some kind of tranquility. Questions that have hung around my neck have escaped, at least for the moment. Sometimes there are no responses, not in the sense that one would hope for. Life, however, is profound. How simple it is, to move here and there, passing by the tenderness and sincerety that pours forth without effort. There is a frequency that these signals operate upon, entirely reachable and wholly available to all. Today I am attuned to these waves of emotion; they overtook me as I traversed the subway, of all places. My ... read more

Word up.... I don´t have a whole lot to say today, however I thought I´d write anyhow since I want to keep up with 3 entries per week. Today is a sad day since its the last day Pierre has with us here in Madrid. This place will definatley have much less life and lustre once he leaves. Some people just bring the party wherever they go, and Pierre is one of those people. We spent the afternoon in the ´Rastro´area of town, which is a full of foriegners, and had a very nice lunch at a small Indian cafe on the street. Arabic, Indian and Moroccan influences abound from this area, providing an exotic feel that was refreshing for us today. The tikki masala was exceptionally good, and I´m never one to turn down some ... read more

Word up kiddies! I´m back in Madrid again and able to write you all some more lovely posts. Yesterday was a national holiday in Spain, so everything was basically closed, schools, banks, stores etc. Needless to say the spanish are back to their usual routine, consisting largely of eating, drinking and sleeping and not much else. When in rome.... Barcellona was definatley a good time. The comminuty itself is nearly as large as Madrid and constructed in much the same manner. Its metropolitan, as you might imagine, but much more personal in nature. Construction ranges in terms of age, as the city is much older than Madrid, so interesting edifeces and sights abound. Being both on the Mediteranean and near the border of France, the city also exudes a slightly more European feel, coupled with the ... read more
