Hello Everyone! I'm off traveling again, this time to Argentina and Chile. I'm heading down with my friends Becca and Heidi. I can't wait to get there and try the Argentinian wines, dance the tango, eat at a parilla, and hike a glacier in Patagonia. See ya'll when I get back!
Wow! Words cannot describe the day we had today, but I will try :) We are in El Calafate, Patagonia at the moment which is about 40 km from the El Perito Moreno Glacier. We booked in at the Hostelling International hostel in town which legitimately is the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in. I mean, the titled floors are even heated! We headed off on a tour with our hostel this morning to the glacier. It was called the ¨Alternative Glacier Tour¨ because we took the gravel backroads to get to the glacier. The backroads used to be the path that the horse and wool traders took to get to Buenos Aires to sell their goods at port. It is also the best path to see some of the wildlife in the area. On

We went to 5 different desks - one to tell the guy where we wanted to go, one to pay for the ticket, another for them to rip off one portion of our ticket stub, another to go through imigration, and finally another to board the boat. We literally were the last ones to jump on board. Thank goodnesss we made it because we had a wonderful sunny day. Colonia switched hands between the Portugese and the Spanish many times over the years. This is evidenced by the different types of cobble stone streets. The Portugese streets are made with perfectly placed stones but with

We had to stand in the customs line for an hour and a half, but it was worth it. After only a day and a half, we are having so much fun. Our hotel turned out to be conveniently located in the theater district. Upon arrival, we immediately went to find some empanadas, which cost a mere $1 each. After a nap we headed out to a tango show at the famous Teatro Tortoni. They put on an amazing show (only $24). There were three pairs of dancers and a full band. It was like a short musical. Afterwards we had coffee upstairs and made friends with the waiter who let us take pictures on

Kath, our tour guide, told us that this was abnormal weather for the island because the warmth of the gulf stream usually keeps it from getting cold enough to snow. Anyway, it made for quite an amazing day. We really got to experience the strory telling skills of our guides Kath and Simon today. The first thing we did in the morning was to stop off for a safety warning. Simon explained to us that there are fairies, brownies, and giants living all over Scotland. Many of them have migrated to Skye because they don't like all the tehnology in the cities. Simon said that they are neither good nor bad but that

I was pleased to find out that everyone on the trip was really friendly and that we had two great tour guides who would be showing us the sights. We started off by heading to the William Wallace Memorial. For those of you who don't know, William Wallace's story is told in the Braveheart movie. He was a true Scottish hero rurmored to be able to fight off 6 men at a time. He was a commoner who led the Scottish people against the rule of the British. He won several battles and afterwards went into exile in France and Spain. He returned a few years later only to be captured by the British. The British

We checked into our cute B&B and headed into town to do a bit of sightseeing. Edinburgh was much different than I thought. Much smaller, which is a good thing. All the buildings are traditional English style homes and all grey. The only thing that distinguishes them are the shop signs. This morning we started off with a traditional Scottish breakfast, which was great except that it was missing the black pudding that I am used to in Ireland. Then we took the bus into the city to visit the Edinburgh Castle. The Castle dominates the city and is the country's main tourist attraction and has played a central role in

We started off the day by visiting the church Santa Maria del Mar, right near our hotel. Then we headed to the Picasso museum. Picasso helped found the museum in the 1970´s and donated much of the art work located there. Afterwards we hopped back on the tourist bus and headed to Park Guell. The park was originally commissioned by Gaudi´s patron Eusebi Guell to be a garden suburb community of Barcelona, but it never took off. Gaudi turned it instead into a garden paradise where you are greeted by two gingerbread houses upon entering. The whole place seemed like a scene from Alice in Wonderland. After a great lunch, I accidentally took my Mom through

Its a big city, but it has tons of character, its right on the beach, and it has tons of cultural stuff to do. I love it! My parents and I arrived in Sunday afternoon. We were so tired but decided to venture out to see some of the sights anyway. First we headed out for a yummy Spanish meal (food is excellent here) and then we headed down to the ocean. The beach is amazing. It is already really warm here so there were a ton of people sunbathing. Then we caught a chair lift that goes across the bay to Monjuic, which is a small mountain on the ocean where the headquarters for the Olympics was located.

We´re doing a bit of traveling together before I head back to North Carolina. Yesterday and today were Madrid. We were really fortunate to have excellent weather. Its about 70 degrees at the moment. A few of the places we hit were the Royal Palace, the main Madrid Cathedral, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, and Parque Retiro. They are the fifth group of visitors I have had since I´ve been here so I´ve pretty much got the Madrid tour down pat :) Tonight I´m bringing my parents our for a bit of Madrid nightlife - tapas and a few goodbye glasses of vino tinto with my friends. More on that later...

It’s the idea that you can start a chain reaction of kindness by doing something good for one person. When they ask how they can pay you back you tell them they can pay it forward instead and do something good for three more people. Then each one of those people hopefully helps three more people. Anyway, I always think of this when I see a homeless person on the street and I am in a hurry and am thinking to myself that I don’t have time to help them and then I remember how someone has helped me out in my life and that I can spare a few minutes to go get the person a
