¡¡¡Hola!!! If there is any blog that is going to be the most...interesting....of the blogs from my travels in South America, it is going to be this one! So get excited and read on: Okay, last I left off I was still in Buenos Aires and had just gotten back from a tango show where Ashley had fallen asleep at the show :) That night Matt had to leave us so the next day it was just Ashley and me on our own. We ended up spending most of the day with this guy named Jay from Florida, so that was fun. We got back from going to Palermo (a neighborhood of Buenos Aires) around 7:30 at night. Well, Jay's friends that he was traveling with were leaving at 8 that night to catch a bus ... read more

Last Wednesday, January 31st was my last day of class meaning that I am done with class for the next month!! Classes don´t start again for me until March 5th, so February is basically going to be the best month of my life :) On Wednesday night, the Delaware group and I went out to eat at a typical Chilean restaurant for "la cena despedida," or goodbye dinner. The restaurant was absolutely amazing, such good food and very entertaining. It was a dinner show, meaning that as we were eating they were dancing typical Chilean dances. They pulled people from the audience to go up there and dance with them, and a few people from our group were pulled up. Afterwards, we all went up to dance so that was fun too. From there, we went ... read more

¿¡¿Que pasa amigos?!? I can´t believe my time in Santiago is flying by so quickly! This Thursday, February 1st, I leave Santiago to begin my free travel throughout the southern cone of South America. We are planning on traveling to Mendoza (Argentina), Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Punta del Este (Uruguay), Iguazu Falls (Argentina), and Viña del Mar (Chile). This past weekend, January 25th through January 28th, was my last weekend in Chile with the Delaware program and was our "free weekend" where we could choose where, if anywhere, we wanted to travel. A group of 11 of us (10 girls and 1 boy, lucky him!) traveled to northern Chile, first to Chañeral to see the desert and then to Caldera and Bahia Inglesa to the beach! The weekend began with a 13 hour overnight bus ride on ... read more

January 23rd 2007

¡Hola! Over the weekend of January 18th through 21st, we traveled to southern Chile for 4 days! After taking a test in my literature class on that Thursday, we went back to the airport (it seems like I´ve been to the airport in Santiago more than the one in Charlotte!) and took a flight down south to Puerto Montt. From there, we took a bus to Puerto Varas, where we spent the next 4 days. That afternoon, it was sooo hot and sunny, so Ashley and I went the beach! After laying out for a few hours (and not getting sunburned), we saw a guy renting double seater bikes that you could ride around the coastline. We decided to give it a try and found out it´s A LOT harder than it looks! We started out ... read more

¿Que tal amigos? I just got back to Santiago late Monday night (3 a.m.) after a phenomenal weekend in Peru! We left from Santiago at 5:30 a.m. last Thursday morning (Jan. 11th) to fly to Lima, Peru and then onto Cuzco, Peru. Now, 5:30 a.m. was pretty bad to begin with, but the pain of getting up that early was definitely intensified by the fact that the night before we were up until 2:30 a.m. celebrating Matt¨s 22nd birthday :) By the time we all finally arrived in Cuzco, we were so dead from traveling and the previous night´s activities that all we really did that night was walk around the city center, eat, and go to sleep! The next day, Friday, we took a bus to the top of a mountain where we proceeded to ... read more

Wow! I definitely had a great time during my first weekend in Chile! This Saturday, January 6th, we left for our first excursion at 8:30 a.m. from the University. I was so exhausted from going out the night before that I fell asleep on the bus (along with everyone else). We first went to a town right outside Santiago called Maipu where basically all there was to see was a really big cathedral with a huge courtyard that resembled Saint Peter´s square in Rome. Next, we traveled to Pomaire, another small town where they are known for pottery. I actually helped the guy make an icecream bowl as well! For lunch, we went to a local restaurant in Pomaire. I really wanted to drink water there but all they had was wine or tap water and ... read more

¡Hola! My first blog entry from Santiago! Ashley and I have arrived to Santiago, Chile safe and sound and have started classes. I am having the time of my life already, and I know it´s going to keep getting better. Our plane trip was pretty normal (I actually slept on the plane for about 5 hours, so I was lucky!) We got to the airport around 9:30 a.m. on the 3rd of January (7:30 Eastern time). While we were standing in the line for customs, we actually saw the group from Furman that is studying here! It was really funny seeing 20 people that you know in the middle of South America (they were even more surprised than us!) We arrived before the Delaware group and were suppose to wait for their plane which was scheduled ... read more

Hello! And the blog continues, Part 2!! Tomorrow afternoon I leave for Santiago, Chile where I will be studying abroad for the next 2 months :) I first fly to Miami then take an overnight flight on January 2nd to arrive in Santiago on the morning of the 3rd. Chile is actually 2 hours ahead of Eastern Time in the US, so we land at 9:30 a.m. but it will really only be 7:30 here. I am traveling down to Chile with my friend Ashley from Furman (not flying by myself this time, horray!) and we are meeting up with students from the University of Delaware in the airport (I hope!) I'm thinking that this travel abroad experience will be totally different from Spain, so I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. Instead of ... read more

I'm back in the United States now, but I never wrote about my two weeks of independent travel! (and those two weeks were some of the best 2 weeks of my trip!) It is really hard to get internet access when traveling around (and expensive too!) so that is why it's taken me until now to record all that I have done. On December 3rd, the Furman group returned from southern Spain, and our foreign study trip was officially finished. However, the majority of us decided to stay in Europe a little longer and travel around. I bought a Eurail pass which allowed me to travel around Europe by train. The night of the 3rd began our crazy two week adventure. 8 of us from Furman took the night train from Madrid to Paris. It was ... read more

December 1st 2005

Hola a todos! So it´s the first day of December, and I figured I should write a blog since my last entry was a month ago! Here´s a quick update of the past month of my Spain adventure: A day after I got back from London, my family came to visit me in Madrid! The first day they were here, I took them on a walking tour of the city. Looking back, this was probably not the best idea because they still had jet lag. We had tapas that night with my profesor and also went out to dinner. The next day (Saturday) my aunt Lindy and her friend Linda came. It was rainy so we had to find stuff to do that was indoors. The sad thing was that it continued to rain for the ... read more
