Saturday, Sunday, Monday, - May 19th, 20th, and 21st. The weather has turned cooler with more clouds. We've had a couple of overnight thunder showers, however, the afternoons have been clearing. Quiet days just hanging around the apartment learning how to relax! Dana's better at this than Debra. Planning to go for our major hike tomorrow to Tuenti which is about a 5 hour hike to the north and we catch a boat to come back. Should have lots of pictures. Tuesday, May 22nd The water was too rough today and the boat that would have brought us back from our long hike was cancelled. We took the train to Palma to see Belver Castle which once was a Roman installation. Debra wanted it recorded that I made her walk to the Castle from the Train ... read more

When I was trying to fall asleep on the first night in the hotel, only one thought was flying through my head, it couldn’t be as bad as it seemed right? Or could it? The flight itself wasn’t that bad, although it could’ve been very unpleasant – I really don’t mind the kids on the plane, but the amount of prams we were taking on board was slightly worrying, not to mention a few groups of young, loud guys, having started drinking and partying before we even took off… in this case I was actually happy that we were flying with Ryanair and there were no assigned seats so at least we could choose to sit as far away from the young shouting crowd as possible… If anyone was hoping to sleep on this flight, not ... read more

Mallorca - 4 Weeks 4 weeks between cycle trips with the intention to simply relax. We Stayed with Stephs Sister, Suzie so lots of family time, from sitting in cafes to volleyball training and birthday parties. Stephs parents were there when we arrived so we had their company for 4 days then shortly after my brother joined us for a week. The week with my brother was a week in which we did lots of relaxing and sitting around watching the world go by. We did hire a car for a couple of days and drove around the island - the first day we went to the mountainous area and it was wet and cloudy, the day after that we went to Alcudia and enjoyed the beach and some sun. Soller, Valldemossa and Llubi were cool, ... read more

Tuesday, October 25 We spent the morning fretting about luggage weight! Fred and I had both been on the airline website, and we each had different maximum luggage weights for both checked and carry-on. As well, we each had different costs for overweight. Fred had a scale and we weighed and re-weighed our bags several times. We had arranged for a large taxi to pick us up at noon, and we were at the airport by 12:30. And guess what? The airline agent allowed us to put an overweight bag through, and they didn't even ask about our two (each) carry-on bags! So we fretted for nothing. The flight was very slick... one hour and forty-five minutes to Barcelona, half hour wait and forty-five minutes to Mallorca. We met "Max", our car rental agent, and we ... read more

During our family holiday to Mallorca in August we decided to head away from the main resorts to see a bit of more genuine life on the island. As we were staying nearby we chose to take one of the local bright red and yellow buses (more like luxury coaches) to the town of Pollenҫa. The town was founded in the 13th century with most of the streets being constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries. One of the town’s most famous places is a set of 365 steps leading to a chapel at the top, so this is where we planned to go first. After departing the bus it was not entirely obvious which direction we needed to head in so we spent a while wandering around the backstreets until we came across a newsagents ... read more

Day 2 in Mallorca! After only a half day yesterday, we had a lot left to finish on our To-Do list before we left the Spanish Islands. Fish Spa We headed out into the downtown district of Mallorca and while walking around we came across "Fish Spa". This 'Spa' gets rid of dead skin on your feet and smooths them not by pumice stones or by a traditional pedicure, but literally by having tiny fish eat at your feet... Sounds so gross... but we had to try it! So we paid (only 8euro for 15 minutes in the 'spa') and found our spots; right in front of the spa window. There were hundreds of little fish in every tank and you could tell they knew it was feeding time! This was the strangest experience I've ... read more

We got into Mallorca this morning. Not totally thrilled about the hotel. Its pretty far outside of town and the buses only come every 20 minutes. It works though. When we got in, all the rooms weren’t ready yet so we decided to head to wander around and head to bellver castle while we waited for our rooms to be available. Bellver Castle The entire city of Palma is built on a hill that leads down to the port or up into the mountains. We headed up the steep narrow roads towards the castle, taking note of all the tiny allys and beautiful flowers. When we entered the gates of the castle’s land, I could tell the original owners probably did not have too many dinner guests. Steps upon steps upon steps. It took us about ... read more

When I heard ferry, my first thought was that thing you catch to Mackinaw Island. Just seats, all open, nothing to do but sit & watch the water. Of course I understood these "ferries" would be an upgrade from that. After all many of them include sleeping quarters, have room for cars to be parked below, and have restaurants. What I was not prepared for was that "ferries" are cruise ships that take you from Point A to Point B. These things are massive. (Because I am late writing this, I will include my ferries both to and from Mallorca). On the way there, we got in late but had a cabin for our group. 4 girls in one, 3 girls in another, and the 4 boys in one. I roomed with Steph & Sharon & ... read more

hello everyone! I know it has been a while since my last entry and I apologize. This last month has been a little bit crazy compared to the other months of my travels. I have been jumping around and having limited access to computers. I am now in a set location for a couple of days and can now inform you of my journey. It started after Croatia. I was scheduled to go to Scotland and camp in the highlands for two weeks fallowed by a trip to Holland and France. The trip started out according to plan but quickly took a dramatic turn. While in Scotland my two companions and I became violently ill. Each one of us suffered a vicious stomach bug that really knocked us out. After two days of being sick and ... read more

On Friday the 19th of August Alesha and I headed to Gatwick in time for our 6.20pm Easyjet flight and in true easyjet fashion our flight was delayed for not one, not two but four hours!! A gas leak was the reason so in all honesty i'm glad they swapped planes but we weren't that pleased about arriving in Palma so late (2.30am). On arrival we had a very grumpy taxi driver who drove very eratically and unhappily to our 5 star accomodation. We also had a very drunk kiwi try and get in the taxi with us and if he'd been able to tell us where he was going we may have been able to take him but he told both taxi drivers he wanted to go to Clapham (this is at palma airport!!) ... read more
