Has it really been two years?!?!...Well, we've been dormant for a while, but that doesn't mean we haven't been anywhere, but because we've been to places where we've been before, we haven't blogged about them (mainly Spain and Germany) However, we've been busy having a baby! Ella came to this world on the 29th of January 2013 and we couldn't be happier: she's healthy and fit and she came with her climbing shoes and diving mask ready to use. That's one of the big news and the other is that, after more than 10 years living in England, we've moved to Majorca!... we got tired of the long, dark winters, the snow, the traffic jams and being far away from our families... so when Dax got a job offer in Majorca (and even though I was ... read more

How time flies - having waited months on end to start my gap year, my time in Palma is slowly coming to an end and what a shame too! Palma has been everything we expected and more. This Island in the heart of the Med offers stunning architecture, culture and history and you are almost always guaranteed some sun...we have certainly been blessed with that over the past 3 days. Having arrived in Palma an hour later than scheduled due to the French air traffic control strikes, rest and relaxation (a few beers) has been the order of the day. We caught the bus from the airport (EMT 1) and walked from Plaza Espanya to Plaza Major where our apartment was. We couldn't have chosen a more central hub to spend our time here! I would ... read more

Within the space of a month we are now on our third little break (we are not bragging even though it may seem that way!) - this one the official summer holiday (part 1). Enforced by leave running out at the end of June (poor us, I hear you say!). Actually, it was a great time to go away - the benefit from being outside of the peak holiday period - paying for 3 now makes a bit of a difference! The selection criteria for this holiday was as follows: Somewhere close - within a few hours flying Somewhere warm Somewhere you can fly to from Luton (our local airport) Somewhere with a pool, easy walking distance to restaurants, and family friendly After plenty of searching we settled on Majorca - Cala D'Or - annoyingly for ... read more

El Arenal, Majorca a.k.a Germany.Going on a holiday for a couple for the first time, it is good to go for a fail-safe beach holiday. Although our hotel was next to the beach, we didn't expect it to be the German version of Zante, Malia, Kavos and the like. Those Greek Islands get the condensed tin of Brits, El Arenal gets the 18 year old 'this is my first holiday without my parents and I'm gonna drink all my saved Saturday job money in five days” Germans. We definitely stuck out like two penguins in the Sahara desert walking along the strip. Even the pestering cheap watch sellers and impersonal promoters shoving flyers in your face were lost for words when we replied “no thank you” as opposed to “nein danka”.I'd say it was great motivation to ... read more

Two weeks into being in Port de Pollensa (part 2 of the career break) and we have been walking and discovering Mallorca in the 30 degree heat! First up Castell del Rei This Moorish castle was always supposed to be inaccessible to invaders, but for over a decade private land closure has done that job! Fortunately nowadays, with a permit requested some days before the hike, you can re-discover a truly fabulous stretch of northern Mallorca. The walk climbs gently through oak and pine forest eventually reaching the castle 490m above sea level. Founded by the Moors and strengthened by Jaume I, this was the last fortress to surrender to Pedro of Aragon when the brief-lived kingdom of Mallorca came to an end. The castle has been abandoned since 1715. The solitude of the Ternelles valley ... read more

We regretfully had to check out of El Vistamar this morning. After one final breakfast, one final session of “stuffing of stolen treats into Rach’s handbag”, and one more demolition on the pool table, we left our Majorca paradise and waved goodbye to Tomeu’s. Armed with a Google search of Majorca’s best beaches, we proceeded to visit S’Amarador Beach, a quiet little beach paradise hidden amongst a national park. I emphasise HIDDEN…we couldn’t find the bloody thing. Sue the stupid GPS was barking instructions to head down streets that didn’t exist and we ending up on bloody goat tracks that our little Toyota buzz bomb was never equipped to drive down. To say we were lost was an understatement as we almost drove into a drug lords beach side mansion (let’s go with that anyway). After ... read more

We’ve decided today that we’d do better travelling around on four wheels instead of 2. After breakfast (and pool, and stealing more treats for the roadtrip), we collected our keys and excitedly exited the hotel with anticipation of the what the day shall bring. However, a problem arose straight away…what does our car look like?! One would have thought they’d park it right out the front right?? Wrong…we’re the bloody hell did they put it. Rach and I parted ways and decided to walk around the block in opposite directions. We knew the number plate however that was it. So after about 15 mins of walking around in circles, walking up to random vehicles and pushing the keyless entry, we stumbled across our little buzz-bomb (parked on a side street!). So we’re all set, we hop ... read more

Wake up, super excited this morning as today is bike-ride Majorca day. I spring out of bed, throw open the curtains expecting a blast of morning sunshine but am quickly disappointed with the presentation of a grey and overcast day, and the soft pitter-patter of rain on the ground below. Umphhhhh, it’s not supposed to rain in Majorca, especially not during summer. That’s the sort of shitty weather we left for little Queeny as she floated down the Thames for her golden jubilee. But I digress. So we bugger the morning away, slowly eat breakfast and wait for a break in the weather. It comes just prior to lunch, and we venture out and select our shiny new 2-wheeled beasts from bike shed. On looking up at the heavens, we decide we’d better grab lunch as ... read more

We woke up after having another great sleep in with Ben very excited about watching the bombers play on my lil laptop by the pool! Had another yummy breakie and took 1.50 euro with us all ready to play pool! I lost by 1 ball! Gah!! By was pretty cool playing in the sun! So we headed back up, changed into our togs and wandered down to the pool again. Ben set up his lil towel tent so he could see the screen while I vibered mum for a bit. Then the next 2 hours consisted of me sunbathing and ben cheering and yelling this from under his towel tent with swimming at the end of every quarter! Tragedy occurred and the bombers lost!! I thought the day was then a write off but surprisingly ben ... read more

So last night we had a relatively painless flight to Majorca however it was full of hens and stag groups very drunk and making ALOT of noise! I got picked up at 12pm by a driver from bens work and met him in the car only to realise id left my togs at home so raced home to get them. Whew! Other than that we arrived safely in Majorca and realised we hadn’t booked a transfer and all the transfer desks said we had to have 2 hours before so 70 euro taxi it was. Meh! An hour later we arrived at our hotel and got kinda dropped off just outside on the road and were so confused where to go as our hotel was spread over about 4 complexes! Eventually we sorted it out, explored ... read more
