Madness. Its Sunday 2nd July, quarter to eight in the evening. We've been in Holland for 4 days now and have loved every single second that we have been here. It has been nothing but madness. We are running on 2 hours sleep today after we attended sensation white last night. We left Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night on one very long drawn out 12 hour flight up to Europe. Wether you call it fate, coincidince, destiny or an act of god, all i can say is we have been extremley well looked after. You may remember in my previous blog i mentioned about the dutch couple Jan and Suzanne who were strangers that we bumped into and got talking to in china town in Kuala Lumpur and socialised with for an evening, and then after ... read more

We learned that... * Everyone has the same cheers and patriotic songs. People just translate them into their own language, except everyone uses "Olé, Olé, Olé" * Either there are no female English football fans or they are just too afraid to go to the match. There were like 3 women in the whole stadium, and one of them was Chris. * We came all the way to Germany to drink American Budweiser since they are an official sponsor of the World Cup * Frankfurt apple wine is not cider, and it's really gross. * German Adi Dassler (get it, Adi-Das) invented the football cleat * The World Cup logo is dumb, but not as dumb as the slogan "A Time to Make Friends" * Spanish is the best language in which to watch football on ... read more

Kelly here, sarasitting. Pukey McDrunkface decided she could drink the same number of beers in the same number of hours as her big sister. In the oft-repeated words of everyone’s favorite governor Howard Dean, “That turned out not to be true.” So, I spent the second hot sunny day we’ve had on vacation sunning myself in Vondelpark reading my book. It was glorious. I am a charming shade of red. Yesterday we traveled via train to a small town that housed what one website called, “The most beautiful view in all of Holland.” Now, I’m no expert on Holland but unless all these postcards featuring endless tulip fields and tall grass are faked this website just plain lied. I cannot believe that the most beautiful view in THE WHOLE COUNTRY has, in any corner of even ... read more

Hi Everyone, Wow its hard to believe that we've been over here for a month and its almost time to come home! This trip has been so much fun (even with the lil road bumps) and we love all of our new friends, but we miss all of our family and friends back home so much and it will be great to see ya all again soon! After Prague we hit the road for Munich, Germany Along the way our tour guide told us some history of Germany and mentioned that we were going to be staying an hour away from Dachau, a real concentration camp but we wouldn't be stopping there. Well we were in shock, we HAD to go, and some other people felt the same way. When our tour guide realized this she ... read more

Sara here. Reporting. Live. Kelly is what I like to call a Blog-Hog. She carries around her laptop (i daresay COVETS) and writes about every damn thing we do in every damn place we do it, before I even notice we damn well did it. I will give a brief account of my observations/points of view, for those of you who love me best. You know who you are. 1. The Newark Airport: A Terminal Illness. 2. Venus de Milo? Hyped-up like Susan Powder dining on red-bull and hershey bars while WATCHING the season finale of American Idol: yet was anything but disappointing. Venus de Milo, Venus fly trap, I'm your Venus...it's all Greek to me. 3. Kelly and I TRIED to go to the Musee d'Orsay, right after we got up. (Living in our clock-less ... read more

I am the shortest person here. Not in this hotel, in the country. For the Monday night trivia team that sort of never was but kinda existed for a few weeks: Rembrandt: A. money-back guaranteed tooth whitening system B. band that sang the catchy, upbeat yet poignant Friends theme song C. 17th century self-portrait king o' the netherlands D. All of the above Amsterdam is fun. I went for a three hour run today around a park in the Museumplein (sp?) section of town. I don't know if it has anything to do with the cardiovascular abuse many an Amsterdam resident inflicts upon his lungs, but WAY fewer people passed me than in my beloved runs along the Charles. Also, the preferred method of transportation around here is the bicycle, which makes for a quieter, smog-free ... read more

Our fliight leaves in about an hour or so. And then it's another 9 or so hours to MIL. We're tired. The trip was wonderful, but the flying stunk. I haven't been on so many planes my entire life, not to mention within the span of a couple of days. We've flown from Mem to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Kenya, Kenya to Dar Es Salaam. And then Dar to Zanzibar, Zanzibar to Arusha. Kilimingaro to Dar (which was stupid since Dar is south of Kili) and then from Dar here to Schipol. One more flight and we're done. Today we had a couple of hours layover. Mostly I just hung around drinking h2o and sitting in a lounge. I did a bit of shopping and now I'm using my paid for wireless. Okay, I think we're going ... read more

Sara and I are on the train to Amsterdam. This, in and of itself, is not surprising. What is surprising, especially to us, is that we are in first class. It was a fluke. There is free wine. I am listening to Prince. Rocking out to Raspberry Beret eating my little mandarin oranges and salmon sandwich…life is feeling pretty good. The woman across the aisle is reading Men are From Mars and Women are from Venus and drinking what looks like white zinfandel. Le heavy sigh. Le eyeball roll. We arrived at Gare du Nord hoping to catch a train to Amsterdam, knowing not when it left or how much it would cost. We have been disorganized in this manner basically the whole time. It creates the need to kill time in train stations and nearby ... read more

What can I say about this place that I haven’t already said before? I just really like it and feel very comfortable here. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is that I like so much - but think it’s a combination of a lot of different things (the architecture, the compact city layout, the diversity of people drawn here, the whole bike-riding everywhere thing). Anyway……. whatever it is, it just works for me, and my experience this time around has been as good, if not better, than the last time I was here (which was only for a few days). My B&B turned out better than expected. It’s a fairly modern apartment overlooking a canal in the North-East of the city (near Rietlandpark), and my host was extremely helpful - even cooking me dinner on my ... read more
