So a quick update: We jetted out of Egypt pretty quickly after a overnight train, a plane ride, a sleep in an airport, and another plane ride we landed back in London....home of Shawn's favourite metro system.....we spent a couple days in London saw Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London bridge but decided it was way too expensive to stay there for a month so we headed to the nearest cheapest place....AMSTERDAM!!! (not our first choice we thought we'd do Ireland....but that turned out to be way to expensive too) So here we are hanging otu in amsterdam....we've seen the van gogh museum and the heinken experience.....did alot of walking around....we are both pretty poor so we can't do too much! So were off to London tomorrow...going to a few ARt galleries when we get there ... read more

Arrive in Amsterdam in the morning. It has been a good flight. My seatmate is on his way to India. I am going to Berlin later in the evening. It is a long walk from the plane where it parked and the customs. (thanks God I checked in my big, bulky backpack). I save at least 5 euro fee for 24 hours locker rental (if I need to store my bag). Get out of the airport is easy and finding the correct bus to Leidseplein is simple. It costs 5 stamps (15 stamps cost 6.70 euro) (from a stripkaat, a series of stamps used to pay for the public transportation ride, bus, tram, subway). This is cheaper compared to the train option (cost 3.6 euro) and quicker. I am taking easy and walk around in beautiful ... read more

When you’re traveling alone and check in for a flight you never know who you’re going to end up next to. That’s why I always check in early and choose the window seat. If nothing else, you can look out the window, admire the view. Sometimes you get lucky and end up to someone who can keep you nice company during the flight, making the time goes faster. However, the short - one hour - flight between Amsterdam and Copenhagen isn’t exactly the ideal trip to make long term friends with strangers, so a lot of people try to use the time to make up some sleep and take a nap. This is exactly what the young girl next to me decided to do. Will never know her name, but found out she’s from Alkmaar north ... read more

I left Chambersburg in the morning and my sister gave me a ride to the airport. At check in, I ask if I should check in my bag and was told I should and have to (because of its size). I was affraid the airlines will lose my bag and this belongings are all I have for the next 3 months. I was assured they (the airlines) wont lose it. I was lucky to check my bag through to final destination even I have 2 different tickets. I arrive in Amsterdam in the morning and wont leave for Berlin until in the evening. This task (check-in bag) is very helpful as I dont have to carry around and the walk between terminals in Detroit and Amsterdam. Finally at 1230 PM, I am on the flight from ... read more

Goede Morgen / Avond, (Good Morning / Evening), Well last night was short lived due to the big day that we had travelling from the UK. All talk on the Bus was around the subject of visiting the "Red Light District" at night however most were too tired, and or preferred to stick with their own "Red Light District" with an early night in (1030 - 1100). We settled for a drink in the bar, and Simon and I checked out the Local Beers, whilst Rach and Kirsy had a few Cocktails. Beer of the day - PALM Speciale Belge Wakeup call was at 645 and we checked out of our rooms and headed for breakfast around 730. Todays treat was a full English, however we have been told most mornings consist of a slice of ... read more

What a nightmare finding our hotel today!! We got into the station from Franfurt at 1 but didn't get the hotel until 4. The directions we had were horrible, and everyone we asked told us there were no hotels around there. It's literally miles from the center of town. We had to take the tram almost to the end of the line. On the plus side, once we found it it turned out to be a beautiful brand-new hotel,,,very classy, so totally unlike what we're used to!! They have bikes right there so that's what the plan is for tomorrow evening; tomorrow during the day we'll hit the museums and go out to the countryside when it cools down. Amsterdam is quaint, much bigger than I thought it would be and dangerous. The bicycle riders give ... read more

A quick entry from layover in Amsterdam. Finally get to practice my Dutch again! The ride back from Constanta to Bucharest yesterday was a journey! Crossing the countryside I look in the air and see an AWAC circling, you know, the flying radar platform that looks like a big plate on top of a plane...why the Romanians need a high tech radar platform is confusing, I guess maybe they worry about the return of "zee Germans". Anyway, after almost hitting a herd of goats, we got into Buc as it was raining. The city is not engineered or drained well, so the center of town became a big lake! The Mercedes and Volkswagens were all stuck, but the Romanian-made Dacia’s have the air intake higher on the engine so we paddled our way through! The driver ... read more

I'm going to cheat on the date here a little bit..and my actual location. I'm technically in Paris but I'm going to write about Brussels and Amsterdam first because I didn't get a chance to while I was there. I figured I'd catch everyone up a little bit. Last Tuesday my Dad and Margaret met Brent and I in Brussels. He had to be there all week for a business meeting and we all managed to cross paths at the same time. It was great to see them and update them on my trip with a few more animated stories about Romania. I tried oysters for the first and last time. If you enjoy falling off your boogie board and eating the beach on your way down than I highly recommend giving them a try. It's ... read more
