Hello all. We are now in Amsterdam following a soggy few days cycling from Bruges. Holland is lovely and flat and everyone is really into cycling. They all have crazy bikes with weird attachments for carrying children, dogs, shopping. Whenever we so much as stop to look at a map, people are there offering directions and help. When Simon had a puncture they were falling over themselves to give advice. The best bit has been the fact that it is really well equipped with decent cycle paths so it has been much more pleasant riding. Our route took us up the coastline and over little islands all connected by ferries, dams and bridges. We camped on 'mini camping' sites and spent one night wild camping in the dunes near the Hague. That was fantastic in terms ... read more

I'm a shameless tourist in Petersburg: big white running shoes, sun hat, and a camera hanging from my neck. But the thing is, except for the skinheads and hookers, almost everyone is a tourist in Petersburg, even the Russians who come here as pilgrims needing a shot of national pride. Tuesday I was part of a mob storming the Winter Palace. No, it wasn't a recreation of Bloody Sunday; it was the queue of people lined up for the Hermitage. Once inside I didn't know if I should look at the art or the interior decorating. I got lots of ideas for my new house. For example, how about a 19-ton vase made out of Jasper? Of course the 1057 room Winter Palace is small potatoes when it comes to opulence. The day before I took ... read more

August 10 may not have been the best day to commence our air travel due to the foiled terrorist plot and added security. Luckily, our flight plans didn't include Heathrow as they originally had. Because of these events, we arrived at the Philadelphia airport three hours before our departure with our big bags (mine considerably larger than Ryans’) and our carry on, without liquids. Incredibly, we were checked in, through security and sitting at our gate in about 20 minutes. After our 45 minute delay and additional hour and a half on the tarmac we were no longer #20 in line as we departed to Detroit to catch the next flight to Amsterdam. We had already missed our connection. We landed to a cold (55 degrees) and rainy Amsterdam morning and strolled through customs. No customs ... read more

Well yes again we arrived in amsterdam for the last few nights of Jordans trip. Well the final 2 in Paris. But love this town. The Coolest and the Craziest people. And of course the Red light, the canals, the beers. MMMM. did the heineken Experience. Pretty sweet. U only get 3 beers. Somehow I managed to work my charm and get us another round. The waitress loved me. LOL. Went to the Cannibis college and was learned lots. HAHAHA. But love this town everything is sinking or on a huge angle. Buildings leaning on other buildings and cobblestone streets that are just warped. Met some really cool people this round in amsterdam. And again we stayed at Bob's youth hostel. Met up wiht this Shane guy we had pints with on our way to Berlin. ... read more

Pretty much every single song ever written has a meaning. Some songs have deeper meanings than other songs. Actually, considering the massive output of songs throughout the years, most songs ever written probably mean very little to the vast majority. Personally, I’ve only taken the time to analyze no more than a dozen or so songs to find the true meaning and apply to my own situation. Most of them in association with romantic situations. In fact, all but one. But it took two. By coincidence on a Saturday night out, Mr. M and me started singing on one of the most brilliant rock songs ever written - Proud Mary. After having sung it numerous times in various versions, was started to actually listen to it. After having listening to it, we started to translating the ... read more

Well, let’s just say it was wet. This refers to the Boat Tour we took on the canals and rivers of Amsterdam. The wild part didn’t materialize, which of course refers to the other attraction this City is also well known for. When I boarded the plane in Honolulu, the guy next to me asked me where I was heading. When I told him Amsterdam, his reply was “Woo-hoo, this man is on a mission!”. Well, young man, have say, mission was not accomplished. The boat tour was very nice, passing the many old beautiful constructed residential homes with decorative facades. They were mostly 4 stories high, yet narrowly built. The story was that the law taxed the home owners by the size of the lots, so to save, owners built on narrow lots and upwards. ... read more

Day 74: Friday, August 4: Munich After a full night of rain, we awoke to some better weather.. We headed out to the Olympic Park for about an hour before heading into town. We went over to the Deutches (Science) Museum for a couple of hours. I went here with Markus back in 99, but could barely remember it and thought it was great. We spent about 2 hours wandering around, only saw about half but were brain dead and decided to find a place for lunch. We headed to the local farmers market and went into a shop and just pointed at a Worst and some potatoes (with a beer of course), for not knowing what I was getting it tasted pretty good. After lunch we headed into the main square and wandered around the ... read more

Hello Summer is rolling. I know everyone is good. I am glad that GREAT aunt Jean is healing well and that the Nubster is feeling ok. Good ! I am in wonder of how Anna is able to express herself through technology. I always knew the only thing keeping her from taking over are opposable thumbs. I guess she got over that obstacle! Late july; I found my way through the Czech Republic. After the town of Olomouc in Moravia i went west into Bohemia. Prague is a jewel but far too crowded at this time of year. I remember those medieval streets, squares and bridges. This was my thrid time to explore and chill in this city. I know Octavian misses this place as much as me. Much time spent day dreaming of the great ... read more

After three days in Dusseldorf, Kristin, the kids and I drove to Amsterdam. The drive was pretty uneventful except to say there are too many McDonald’s drive thrus and that both Kristin and Kasey are officially German drivers. Man, do they drive fast, but totally in control (or so it seemed as the American passenger). Kristin was a little irritated as we entered the Netherlands and people were only driving 100. I can imagine Amsterdam would be a very different experience depending on what stage in your life you visit. There’s a whole lot of crazy stuff there, but it is all very organized and civilized. Our first afternoon, we headed to the Anne Frank house (with a little bit of shopping along the way). Just like the Prague Jewish Museum, this was amazing. To imagine ... read more
