Hey Guys hows it going ? well this is the last week that I am going to be here at de Bron. The last week has been really cool. Not only have I made more firends but I have seen lots of the country side. Lots of cows and I managed to see a windmill. People around here have asked what my thing for windmills was, cause I guess I talked about them lots... But when I think of holland I think of windmills anc castles or forts. So one crossed off the list. Also I have realized that I have and "accent " aprently. People laugh at me when I say " about " Don't ask me I think it sounds normal but I guess not........ read more

Amsterdam is truly a really intresting city. It has lots of beautiful places, where you can go by bycicle, and you enjoy it a lot. It has also lots of nice shops, not only talking about cofee shops or any oter kind of drug store, but it has strange shops, as neon clothing or psychodelic art shops. What I loved of Amsterdam was walking trought the city next to water canals. This city mixes nature and urban, and this is a really good feeling. When you are in Amsterdam you have to try to be crazy. Smoking fly or eating mexican mushrooms can be really good experience, eaven if you don't wan't to take drugs, tasting a little won't kill you. ... read more

Hello from Amsterdam! Yes, both Nicole and I decided that we needed to take a few days of vacation (now that our project has wrapped up), prior to heading back to the states. I have had some definite highs and lows over the past few weeks since my last blog, definitely a lot of mixed emotions about my return to the states….but this short trip to Amsterdam I think is a nice place to wind down. It is the best of both worlds; ultra laid-back like Senegal…but a VERY developed country (I don’t remember it being so nice, on my first visit!). We almost did not make it here though. We were told of the horrors of Heathrow airport with the new security measures, but it took us almost 24 hours just to get to the ... read more

Geo: 52.3738, 4.89095hey all from Amsterdam!! Finally my Contiki tour has begun!! Already, im wrecked lol. Its gonna be a tiring journey. the tour group seems alrite... there is 6 guys and 28 girls lol... one of the guys is up with his gf too. the rest are real bogans lol. 85% of the group is from Australia, maybe more. All in all the group itself seems alright, and i get along with em okay..Amsterdam itself is everything its been cracked up to be and more. Started last night with a walk around the redlight district, and then a canal cruise with unlimited drinks which was really awesome. After that, decided to go with most of the group to Grasshoppers "coffee shop" for hours of continued drinkin, dancin, and a bit more. Today im feeling pretty ... read more

I've been sleeping in Agatha's (my other cousin) flat on the fourth floor. Floors are different here. A floor in the U.S. is maybe 12 steps while here it's more like 30. I'll try to take a picture of the stairs that go up to Agatha's apartment. you seriously have to hold onto the handrail or else you might fall backwards. I think it's about 100 steps to the 4th floor. No wonder everybody is skinny here (well almost everybody). Hagar (my aunt) is the best cook ever. She cooks so healthy but everything somehow tastes good. If I were to combine pasta, tomato sauce, salmon, spinach, and soy milk together It would probably be poisionous. But that's what we had for dinner last night and it was delicious. This morning I had something I've never ... read more

Hey everyone, hows it going out there ? Well Yes as most you all know I did make it safely and luggage attached. I have been here in amsterdam for only a few days now. Its great, lovin it already. There are 4 Nationalitys represented in my room. A guy from Finland, Germany, Holand on of course our fav the CANADIANS. Lol I heard a joke today about the orgins of " Canada " Ok so when the peoples of north america wanted to pick a name for there country the desided that it was too hard for them to make this choice. So they desided that they would pick letters out of a hat and see what they came with. So the first guy went and said " C eh ". Next "N eh" and ... read more

Amsterdam, the Netherlands: August 17th - August 20th On board the train we met a nice couple from Canada who were quite good to pass the time with. We noticed many more wind turbines out in the countryside & soon the German houses gave way to less traditional looking homes as it got dark & we crossed the border. When we arrived in Amsterdam we found the train station very difficult to navigate our way around. Nothing was sign-posted well & there was a lot of refurbishment going on, which meant that a lot of amenities weren’t available. Eventually we made it outside to the trams, & found the one we needed to our B&B, which was at the edge of the city, towards the suburbs. When we got off the tram we couldn’t find the ... read more

The Yellow Pages Visitors Guide to Amsterdam is a superb little reference book that the tourist offices in Amsterdam keep well hidden, mostly because the tourist offices seem to be keen on making what money they can from inferior "official" guides and maps. You shouldn't walk into a tourist office in Amsterdam expecting to pick up handfuls of leaflets and brochures if you're not willing to part with lots of money (and queue for half an hour). Not only is the Yellow Pages Guide concise and helpful, it also provides an interesting social commentary. For example; in the "Police and Safety" section under the heading "Urinating in Public", it states: "Dirty habit, always committed by men". Clearly the author has never been on a night out in Aberdeen... It then goes on to say that ... read more

So this is my first day in Amsterdam. My flight was really great. Rode on an airbus and had my own television screen to choose movies and games to play. I watched RV - it was good, but not amazing. I also watched The Incredibles (pixar) which I hadn't seen before. I also watched some of Over the Hedge (another pixar) but then the plane landed. i slept for about 3 hours. the food was not fantastic, but you know, what can you expect from airplane food after all. I sat next to a guy that was going to study in Rome. And what do you know, he goes to UW too. No crying babies or anything. The only bad thing was when we were heading to the Amsterdam airport, we hit a big turbulent and ... read more

Hello from Amsterdam! not a whole lot of time and this internet is bein a bit dodgy but i still wanted to make a quick update! left germany yesterday and arrived in amsterdam. went to a place where they made cheese and clogs (how dutch!) where i bought some yummy pepper cheese. then we went for a bike ride out in the dutch country side on the coolest granny bikes ever! so pretty! came back to our hotel, which is really really nice(!), and got ready for our "dutch cultural show". Lets just say i will never look at a cigar or a banana the same way again! hahaha it was actually pretty cheesy but all part of the amsterdam experience. we had some time before we had to meet up with everyone so we went ... read more
