Ciao bellas! When I last wrote, I was in La Spazia, which is where we based ourselves to visit Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre is 5 little fishing villages with brightly coloured houses (we counted the most of 11 different colour houses) built on the rocky coastlines in the northern part of Italy. It was a full on day for us, starting at 7.30am and returning home at 9.30pm but thought it will be some time before we head back... It was great to be able to see the sunshine rise over the hills, light up the houses in the first town and see it all come to light. The water was just amazing - so blue and clear. You can walk between the towns or if you're just plain lazy then you can train it. It ... read more

April 23-24 We arrived in Verona at around 8am and tried to find internet to contact a man by the name of Christian, with whom we had booked our hostel. After wandering the streets for a while I finally found some internet signal that I could mooch off of to contact him. He instructed us on how to navigate the bus lines to make it to the outskirts of Verona so that he could meet us and pick us up and take us to his bed and breakfast. After finding a local that could speak english and help us make our way through the language barrier, we contacted Christian once we were closer to his home. He came and picked us up in his tiny compact car and drove us to the top of a ... read more

Ciao. Left the Dolomites behind this morning. Truly spectacular and hard to come up with the appropriate adjectives. Seeing Otzi, the ice man, was truly cool also. Chilling. Actually frozen. He is still kept pretty chilled so he doesn't decompose. We did some good hiking and I had a Radler in good old german fasion. We are now in Verona. Home of those young lovers Romeo and Juliet. Jim and I are a lot like those young star crossed lovers. Well, then again, maybe not a lot a like them. Verona is very pretty and we wrap things up in Venice in a few days. Pictures to follow when we get home. Squirrel The Alps are fantastico bellisimaximo! Freaking unbelievable, that's where-I-want-to die beautiful. Did I mention how breathtaking it was? Now we are in a ... read more

So it has been a while since I have updated this thing so I guess I'll start at my last trip out of Ferrara. With the group I went to Verona... which is the home of the famous tale of Romeo and Juliet. We did a morning walking city tour, but it was so cold that I don't remember much of what we did. We did however go and stop by the balcony at the house of Juliet (although the one in the picture would not have been the real one of Juliet, if she was real or not). We also of course stop by the famous churches and were then talked to death about the smallest details. However, the interesting thing that I learned at this church was: it was built to be an upside ... read more

I'm falling in love, dear reader ... with Italy! Verona is the city of romance, and the setting for Shakespeare's immortal Romeo and Juliette. A typically gorgeous Italian city proved the perfect backdrop for Shakespeare, and the inspiration the great man derived from the city continues to inspire modern day travellers. Verona is another impressive feather in the cap for Italy, a country that's up there with the world's great travel destinations! Verona is the last stop on my visit to Italy, and to recap from the previous journal we left off in San Marino. From the fortified city atop a mountain I road a bus back to Rimini, and then caught a train to Bologna for an overnight stay. When visiting Italy culinary experts recommend a visit to this gastronomical capital if you get a ... read more

The titles are getting silly now so Adam isn't allowed to write another one! Pretty, pretty and more pretty, once you get inside the ring road! We were only here for a few hours but it was very pretty. Having gone into the main citadella we were able to see all of the main sights from the bridge. We didn't get to see Juliet's balcony but that didn't detract from the quaintness of the town. This comes with a huge recommendation to see before it gets too touristy!!!!!!!!!! Lots of Love Us xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx... read more

This weekend I ended up going to Verona with Katrin. I was supposed to go to Monaco and Nice with Susan but there was a train strike there so she couldn’t leave. I was so sad! But I still had a good weekend. Katrin and I left Florence on Friday mornig and arrived in Verona by 1pm. The city is beautiful! Imagine beautifully colored buildings with ivys flowing down the walls and shutters of all different types. There is a river that runs around the town and amazing piazzas nestled in the winding streets. We walked to the Roman forum and strolled around the theater and ruins. The view of the city from the top of the museum was spectacular! The day was beautiful—clear skies, free of clouds, and trees of all different colors—shades of yellow, ... read more

Lots of people in Italy can't speak English!.....and I cant understand much from them.... Anyways.. This moring went to the post office to mail stuff.....had two small boxes coz one mask was already in a box.. Walked all the way to the post office and the man saw them and insisted on mailing them in one box! argh. They dont fit in the medium box, so I got the large one, walked all the way back to the hostel, pack as much as I can in and walked all that way back and guess what? That post office ran out of the surface mail sheets!!!!!! Airmail was only 10Euros more..but still..10 Euros...... So, I had to walk down further to another post office to get it sent out!!! In retrospect, Verona is a beautiful city (from the bell tower), the streets were packed and we felt rushed as we only had the afternoon to spend before we were off again. We made the obligatory stop at Juliet's balcony. A couple hundred years ago, an entrprising Veronese dude slapped an empty Roman sarcophagus against the wall and labeled it "Juliet's balcony". Tourists having been flocking here ever since...in droves. We saw some interesting things, and in our typical style we tried to cram too much in. By the time we found the wine bar, Enoteca Cangrande (recommended by Amanda!), we had about 15 minutes to cram in a wine tasting. The owner, Giovanni, insisted on bringing us mutiple delicious appetizers and we experienced our first classic Italian rush job. That is, "Oh, you're in a ... read more
Cool trike!
The passage way into Juliet’s courtyard is filled with Graffitti de Amore.
Garry, along with a few other thousand visitors, rubbed Juliet’s bronze breast. It is said it will bring everlasting love.
