So I realize the majority of my blogs usually have food as the highlight, so I'm taking the occasion to have one entire entry dedicated to an amazing meal that I had this past weekend. All along the Emilia-Romagna coast this past weekend was "La Notte Rosa" or the "Pink Night" which just basically means everything stays open late and there are concerts and other types of activities to keep people up all night long. It is a play on words, as in Italian... a night in white means to Well Fabio and I decided to go, and meet up with friends down there. Well at the last minute (and we were already down in Ravenna), our friends call us and tell us they decided to go to the Lidi Ferrarese, which is the Galveston of ... read more

Lucky for us Fabio joined up with us in the morning to start another day of site-seeing at Rome. With Fabio, we passed by the Vittoriano, the Colosseum and Circo Massimo together, and ended up seeing the Mouth of Truth -- la Bocca della Verita'... we are all still with our hands so looks like we didn't lie! We then headed into the Trastevere area and saw St. Cecilia's church, in which a wedding was going on. We found some lunch and decided to go back and relax some at the hotel. We went back into the Trastevere area to catch the Italy/Spain game... we wound in a restaurant/bar with TVs everywhere! Despite the heat, and the fact that Italy lost, we still had a good time. Of all things, we go in and sit down, ... read more

So today was pretty much just a site-seeing day where we spent the entire morning at the Vatican... climbing all the way up to the top, and such. Afterwhich we searched for some lunch, in the meantime seeing the Sant'Angelo Castle, the Angel Bridge, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. We grabbed some sandwiches and decided to keep on walking and we ended up seeing the Teatro Massimo. We headed back to the hotel to rest up some... and made it back out later to see the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and some nighttime views of the Vittoriano and the Teatro Massimo. We had some pizza for dinner, followed by the necessary gelato, and called it a night! ... read more

We woke up super-early to catch a train, which we had to transfer in a lil' place called Terontola-Cortona... where we met FOG and COLD! I was freezing on the platform as we waited... but I made it and we got on our train to head to Orvieto. Once we went through all the mess to do leave our bags (climbing a steep! hill!) we took the "funicular" -- a type of shuttle that used the weight of the other car to pull us up the mountain. Once we got up that contraption, and grabbed a bus, we found ourselves some breakfast, and made our way through the city... making it to the all famous church! Before we left Ferrara, my host mother explained to me that the church is built to be facing the sunset, ... read more

We hop on the train to get to Assisi early in the morning, to have one of the funniest moments of my life. We walked into a shop to purchase some souvenirs to find some good finds! We make our choices, and we make our way to the cash register... all the while surrounded by religious articles in the middle of a city known for its strong connection to the Catholic faith. We are then met by a spry older lady who very carefully and meticulously (and may I say slowly) wrapped up everything for us... but with a very dry sarcastic attitude in every word we exchanged. She makes her way to a back room to find a box for the statue we had purchased, and she is less than satisfied that it wasn't the ... read more

Waking up super-early to catch the late train got us into Perugia much later than expected and left us Fabio-less (He returned to Ferrara to study and to work), but after resting up at the hotel, we make it into Perugia just in time to get a nice aperitivo overlooking a beautiful Umbrian landscape... followed by a delicious dinner that we just so happened to stumble on... the pictures tell it all this time around... ... read more

After waking up, shuttling a luggage over to Fabio's place on the back of my bike (mind you tied on with the strap from Dad's bag), and having some breakfast, we finally set out on foot in Ferrara. We start on our way to Piazza Ariostea, but we end up meeting up with our dear Fulvio, who is studying tourism -- the perfect tour guide! We decided to change plans and we walked to the oldest street in Ferrara, Via delle Volte. After a little bit more site seeing around town, to name one the Duomo/Cathedral, we go to "Brindisi" bar, which Fulvio informs us just so happens to be the oldest enoteca in Europe, which was established in 1435. I don't know how many times I had passed by this bar (as it is on ... read more

The time had come... my parents finally made it to Ferrara to see what I've actually been up to for over half a year now... They showed up in the Bologna airport, with Fabio and I anxiously awaiting their arrival... only they were met up with bad news... lost luggage!!! We dealt with it, and finally made it into Ferrara by way of train. We got into the hotel, and got ready for dinner with my host family. By the time all of this had happened, it was already time to meet up with my host family to have some delicious food! We first had a bit of an aperitivo outside in the garden under the gazebo, a bit of prosecco with some snacks. We then made it upstairs to have an appetizer of pork with ... read more

After sleeping in rather late, Iza and I finally dragged ourselves out of bed to get some breakfast... we dined on donuts (which really aren't donuts but I don't know the Polish name to them!) and the zapiekanki... it was delish! After getting some fuel we decided to go shopping, of course rounding out the remainder of the morning with some more iced coffee. After walking around the University, we made our way into Old Town, where we walked around until we decided to climb up the tower to get an aerial view of the center of Warsaw. In the middle of the square there was the Unesco Bears exhibition of all the countries around the world... so Iza and I decided to takes pictures with every bear in which whose country we had been in. ... read more

This morning we woke up and grabbed some breakfast and met up with our friends from Houston. We did a bit of site seeing around Old Town, and eventually ended up at the tomb of the unknown soldier. In the end, we ended up in a park again with iced coffee. We did some park hopping around... before we finally made ourselves to dinner. I enjoyed some pan friend pierogis with a different cold soup, this time bright pink!! I've never eaten so many brightly colored foods in my life! :) Iza had what seemed to be a breaded pork cutlet, and Luis a platter of mixed meats. After meeting up with some of Iza's family, we met up with the friends to share some goodbyes as they were headed off to their next country in ... read more
