WOW! What a place! I can not believe that we are half way through October and yesterday I was still swimming on Lazaretto beach, a beach near Alghero. Found a beautiful vacation home rented out as a B&B, the house is split in two and the owners live just next door. Only 15 minutes drive from the beach, true bliss. They are currently trying to build their website to attract more people to this great place, and got to hand it to them for the effort. Check out their site http://www.vacationsardegna.com they expect to finish it by the end of the month. Got to Alghero via ferry leaving from Barcelona to Porto Torres, and highly recommend Grimaldi Lines for this. Very professional, ferries are clean and staff are friendly. As the ferry leaves at +/- 22:00 ... read more

Hello, after ages I finally managed to sit down and write a travel journal again. At least something like it. After a lot of things happened previously it was great to go travelling on my own again and getting a break. I flew into germany as my dearest and very much loved granddad passed away on 9/9/09. What a date it was. I received the call while I was at work. However during the day I knew he was going to leave. Actually work has been a great therapy and distraction so since the day he deterioated I threw myself into work working mad hours. My soul needed it, my bank account as well did... So I went to germany for a few days for the funeral which tore the heart out of my chest but ... read more

Geo: 40.0666, 8.9795October 2, 2009 ~ Sardinia, Italy Today the ship docked at the island of Sardinia, Italy. From our balcony, Sardinia looked exactly like Genoa, Italy (which is a good thing). We were all given maps of Cagliria, the city where the ship docked, and were bused out of the port to main street. Hubby & I began walking and I felt like I had a fever and sick to my stomach. So, we walked until we found a little supermarket and he bought me a tea. It was sweet and horrible. I pitched it and minutes later we just happened to walk by a little vending area where for 0.50 Euro (like 50 cents), I got a bottled water. I drank most of it and began feeling much better. We walked to see what ... read more

It has been far too long since my trip to Sardinia and I am appalled that it has taken so long to update my final destination on my 7 week backpack but I guess better late than never. After weeks and weeks of partying like no tomorrow, I left Croatia bound for Bari on the east coast of Italy via boat. I took a plunge 10 weeks earlier and booked a cabin room on the boat, which although expensive, well worth it for comfort and a chance for some catch up sleep. The boat ride was 9 hours long and after my experience from Athens to Santorini I was not going to sit on the hard floor for all that time. When I finally got to Bari I had booked myself into a very nice hotel ... read more

Europe » Italy » Sardinia » Olbia September 21st 2009

After a comfortable night on the car ferry, we arrived at Porto Torres in Sardinia. We drove for two hours to reach the North-West town of Olbia. Just north of the town was Camping Cugnana, where we were staying in an on site cabin. The kids were impressed with the pool and headed straight there for a swim. At 5pm we drove 20minutes along the coast to Porto Cervo, where Polly and Mike were based for the Rolex Maxi Cup sailing regatta with the owner. We checked out the very impressive boat and were taken to the crews beach party. Everything was laid on and Indi, Polly and I even got to dance to the band. Over the next two days Matt went on board for one of the race days and then we all ... read more
