We made it to Sardinia! Thank goodness! Wasn't so sure we would, but I'll talk about that later...first, Florence! No Internet access there or Rome. Florence was great! We found a panini shop all the locals go to for cheap eats. And we went there a couple times : ) We saw the Duomo, a cathedral you can't miss because it is MASSIVE. Jo hustled a street salesman for a painting. We met anItalian man named Sirrenzo who may or may not be part of the mafia. But he taught us all about leather and sent us through his leather school. We climbed 1,001 steps to see the BEST view of the city, mountains, and rural area from Piazza Michelangelo. Unfortunately we didn't see a lot of Renaissance art because we had NO clue the lines ... read more

Ok...so much for writing again the next day...20 days later! I'm not very good with time management as my friends will tell you so it takes me a long time to get round to doing things I don't enjoy doing e.g. washing, cleaning, writing a blog entry, booking a hostel and flights, among other things. Right now we're in Palau, Sardegna, which is greattttt because I have a room to myself again (well, a bedroom in general is nice actually) and it's nice to just sit around or walk at your own pace without running because you're late for something all the time. The first thing I noticed being back here was how much cleaner the air was and how quiet it is during the day! Milan is constant noise 24 hrs a day 7 days ... read more

Im just going to set a new entry, because then its more new than just updating the other, of course i am also going to try to just list them all in one in case you want to look at them all at once, which is for me to the point already really exciting how many people i am really meeting, and furthermore making new friends. Sooooo.... i am going to start for Italy 1. Thomas (The Driver to Italy) - Yeah im going to start with him because he picked me up in zürich but he drove me to Italia, so that counts for meeting him FOR Italia! He is a very nice guy who is down to earth and really friendly, we had a nice time travelling with nice conversations and italian and other ... read more

We were Cagliari for a few hours apparently, I don't really know because I slept the whole time! Mummy and daddy didn't really like the city, mummy was a bit annoyed about that because she's been to another part of Sardinia and absolutely loved it. Mummy wanted to take me to the beach again but instead we came back to the boat early and I splashed about in my pool. It was really hot in Italy.... read more

Well, the last leg of the tour also just had to incorporate a gradual day-long inch-our-way-south drive which took in as many points of interest as a day would permit, but this was a familiar procedure by now, so careful route-planning was more in the shape of mental than written notes. The first stop-off point was the colourful hillside town of Bosa, which I somehow suspect has been overlooked somewhat by visitors to the island who prefer to stay in more established tourist centres. A local market added to the town's atmosphere, and the town's main square revealed traces of building styles which were actually prevalent across the whole island. However, Bosa also did seem to have an identity all of its own, and a view of the colourful houses encrusted into the hillside drew parallels ... read more

OK, I admit, I am not expecting to win any awards for these titles, but at least they go to show that the week-long stay in Sardinia has put me in sufficiently high spirits. The next location for the hotel stay was in a rural setting perched midway between Alghero's airport and the Mussolini-planned town of Fertilia, stemming from the neo-fascist era of occupation. En route, there was a lot of terrain to be covered, and as such, an entire day was devoted to doing precisely that - a leisurely scenic drive through dramatic landscapes and noteworthy towns and settlements. The first stop-off point was a rural one, and the rocky landscapes of the Valle della Luna (valley of the moon) provided a couple of photo opportunities, as well as a chance to get to grips ... read more

I do believe this is the first blog entry which touches upon Italy, and though I am no stranger to either the nation, its culture, or indeed the ins and outs of Italian language, this was the first foray to Sardinia proper. The first port of call on this multi-leg journey was the Spa town of Sardara, where a spa bathe was abandoned in favour of lunch in Sardara town. Further towards the first hotel location, the town of Siniscola provided a snapshot of small-town Sardinian life, and also enabled us to stock up on essential provisions which were to last the rest of the week. The setting for the first hotel stay was the north-eastern town of Olbia, and a perfect base from which to sample the delights of the island's Emerald Coast. The centrally-located ... read more

Day 2 on the cruise was a relaxing one. We made the decision to stroll around the ‘sleepy’ town of Liverno, Italy (Tuscan province). Basically, there is shopping, more shopping and even discount shopping in this cute and quaint town. We chose to spend the morning browsing and the afternoon lying on deck in the sun. The weather was phenomenal! Eating is a big task on this cruise. I have never eaten so much in my life! It is a bit ridiculous as to how much food consumption takes place. At dinner, some folks at our English speaking table (specifically my mom) order 7 courses as ‘why not taste everything’. OYE. It’s ridiculous. Day 3 on the cruise was spent in Sardinia. We arrived in the city of Olbia, Italy early in the morning. Our excursion ... read more

Lisbon: I had a couple hours to walk around so I started in the direction of a monument I had seen on arrival. Turns out it was a little bit of a further walk than I had envisioned… After getting slightly lost and buying a 6 pack for 2 euros I found myself back at the ship. But not before I had walked 7 kilometers… Every time we enter or leave Lisbon harbour we have to go under the 3rd longest suspension bridge in the world. We normally clear it by 6 or 7 meters. But this time due to the very big tide we had less than 4 meters of clearance. The pilot was very concerned and stared at the camera facing the stack until we cleared it. Vigo, Spain happens to be the biggest ... read more
