Bergamo August 15th Well we got through the tunnel into Italy. We came climbed up through the foothills around Chambery along empty roads and through the Frejus tunnel into Italy. The roads continued to be quiet as we circumnavigated Torino and hit the autostrade for Milan. We rushed across the plain of Lombardy past light industry with the occasional classic Italian farmstead. We did 500 kms in 5 hours in our new car and soon the stunning image of Citta Alta emerged from the hazy air. There was nor escape from the incredible heat in Bergamo. It pushed high 30s and into the 40s over the time we were there. The town was deserted as all the locals headed for the coast and the mountains. We stayed in Michael and Francesca’s beautiful apartment while were there. ... read more

Today was my first full day here in Italy, it was amazing. I had serious doubts about how enjoyable this year would be after staggering off the plane and collapsing into bed somewhat of an emotional mess, exhausted and in shock. Those doubts have now fled back to whatever dark corner of my brain that opens its doors when I get tired. I had the most amazing time out with Pietro and his VERY nice and very pretty girlfriend and many of their friends, I realize now that Cafe hopping is the Italian/European past time for high school students, I have never seen so many people my age hanging out in one place, let alone three different cafes! Everyone seems to know everyone, despite the daunting (to me) number of people. while i slept only until ... read more

Wanted to visit Italy and this opportunity couldn be missed - base in Bergamo to visit Italian lakes and Venice. Turned out managed to see Verona too. Got about on Regionale local and Trenitalia intercity trains. Everything I hoped - beautiful country and city landscapes, amazing architecture and art, (and of course perfect food). Bergamo is a great small city with such an interesting split between modern and old towns, connected by road and steep funicular rail. Found local Bergamo fare on the Saturday night and drank a great Lombardy cabernet from a jug in a mug! Totally no understanding of Italian language but took a phrase book and coped just about (apart from misunderstanding on the Sunday, sailing across Lago di Garda to Garda town and ended up disembarking thinking all afternoon I was in ... read more

The first three days of our holiday was jam packed with Lazy touristic things to do, which we were keen to change! We had decided to spend one night in the town of Desenzano del Garda. This was highly contrasting to our days in Milan as everyone was even more relaxed than the people we’d met in Milan! This was down to Desenzano being a lake town, which naturally combined with the sunshine promotes relaxation and laziness. Once we eventually found our hotel we were disappointed that we were only staying here for one night, as it was simply fantastic! We set off out to tour the lake town and eventually made our way the peninsula of Sirmione. Just like Desenzano and Milan everyone looked rich and healthy which was something which puzzled us! How do ... read more

Dear Ms Feldsher and the class I got all your questions and I answered every one in order. I was very happy about your mail so I am writing one back very soon. I also show what the question was, so you know what and whom I am answering. Love Emily Cass: Have you been to Pisa and seen the Leaning Tower of Pisa yet? No, I haven't been to Pisa yet. I have been in Milano, Bergamo and Almenno. We are going to Venice, maybe we will make a trip to Paris. Keegan: We are not having fun working. (THIS MESSAGE WAS NOT APPROVED BY THE TEACHER!!!!!) I'm having fun working. It's hard keeping up with the rest of the class. English class is my favorite! Bryce: What is the weather like in Italy? It's ... read more

Woke up this morning to SNOW! I am glad I didn’t stay in Federico’s flat in Padova alone and come back to Milano today, Monday, because: one I was very happy to see everyone and two I wouldn’t have been here to go to Bergamo with Laura this morning to pick up Helen and her brother. We met them in the late morning, and spent a few hours together in the new snow in beautiful Bergamo. I’ve always wanted to see the city and only ever been to the train station and slept over in the airport. The city, even at midnight looked beautiful and I wanted to go back. Laura and I found a place to park and met Bum Chum and Brother Bum Chum in front of a church. Alex, Helens brother, is really ... read more

hey Safe plane flight, although very bumpy indeed! I got (Pete) a bit flight sick, but nothing to worry about... Doing very well so far (we think) as we managed to get through the airports OK and then find our hostel in Bergamo! (The Ryanair equivalent of Milan!) the old part of the town is very beautiful with a massive basilica called de santa maria maggiore, but we are currently in the new town down the bottom of the hill. getting to the old town is exciting (for us fen boggers :) ) as it requires a cable car. Very steep, but luckily as Lisa is scared of heights, you never have to leave the ground! Have been wandering around the newer part of town (after a well deserved nap) and managed to find this ... read more

Kuumaaa!!!!!! Bergamossa oli pilv... read more

Real quick as I only have five minutes: rain makes traveling difficult. Its cold and miserable outside. Stupid HI hostels have ridiculous lock out times in Italy. So does everything else for that matter. So what do you do in a small town when you have already read your book and your iPod dies and the nearest basillica is intersting, yes, but hardly enough to keep you entertained for hours? Ride the train to a nearby town and back, thereby knocking off two hours NOT in the rain. And it's sunny in London today. Here's hoping it holds out until tomorrow.... read more
