The recap of Italy is strictly from memory, as we were enjoying the stunning train ride through the mountains, I dropped my camera and it broke. Thankfully we still had Joe's, but somehow his memory card got corrupted, so we lost all evidence of Venice and Florence. What I do remember is that Joe, Tristan, Marisa and I made out way to Venice on Monday June 26, and started walking the numerous tiny walking streets in search of our lodging. Most people don't speak English, but after 30 minutes to an hour of searching, we finally find out place. A wonderful little bed and breakfast style flat, hidden in one of the corners of Venice. We spend two nights in Venice, with the majority of the first day just walking around town, checking out Saint Mark's ... read more

Hello all! What a whirlwind Rome has been. We arrived at a decent time 7:00 p.m., found our hotel across from the train station and headed out for a fabulous dinner. The next morning we were up at 6:30 a.m. to head to the Vatican, St. Peter's Church, 250 steps at Michaelangelo's Stairs, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Treve Fountain, Colaseum (Debe's spelling), and off to another wonderful dinner. This morning we were up doing last minute shopping. Denise and Teri Ann are off at the market and Debe and I thought we would write another blog. We have all had such a wonderful experience on this trip. So many sights that it blows the mind, food that was so spectacular, people that have been a treasure to meet. What a treasure we will all remember. Thank you ... read more

Well, today we trekked down that hill again this morning from the camping village in the 35 degree heat, backpacks and all, and made our way to the train station. Thankfully the train ride to Rome was relatively short and sweet and we actually managed to find our hostel pretty quickly as it was only about a 7 minute walk from the train station. We dumped our stuff in our modest room (being where you can hardly open the door to get in because the bed is in the way and our shower is over the toilet - but who's complaining?) and went for a walk into the city. We managed to find the Trevi Fountain easily enough, and holy crap, there were soooo many tourists! Italy must be one of the big places for tourists ... read more

Hello Everyone! No reservations, no itinerary, no idea what we were going to do, and we only had one week to get in as much Italy as possible. We definitely were going to stay in Florence, Rome, and Venice, but also wanted to check out Pisa and Pompeii. Since we were going to be arriving in the area late we decided the first night would be in Pisa and from there we would head to Rome. We caught a direct train from Monte Carlo and were on our way, but we almost didn’t make it! One stop after the Italian border, the train stopped and the guy in our compartment got off and we looked out the window and didn’t see anyone getting on. We thought it was strange, but according to the schedule this was ... read more

Well. It is nice to know that as a senior, I know ONE other senior who managed to get season football tickets. WHAT THE HELL is going on at the Athletic Department at PSU?!?!?!?!? I swear if I have to watch as the class of 2011 strolls into Beaver Stadium as I, among my class of 2007, has to scrounge for tickets after kick-off, I don't even know what I'm gonna do. Livid. Outraged. Unbelievable. Too upset to think about it while here in Roma. ANYWAYS..... it is so hot here. Picture the hottest day you have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Now add to itg the most polluted city you have ever been in. Now you are close to understanding what it is like in Roma mid June. We are going to watch the ... read more

Naples left a bad taste in our mouth, but now that we are in Rome, we love Italy! We got in yesterday around noon and immediately went out to see the sites. We took the metro to the Colosseum. Heidi went inside the Colosseum while I waited outside and ate a panini... thats the way I roll.... food before everything! Ha ha no but seriously I heard not to waste your money on going inside, so dang it thats what I did. In any case, Heidi got the pictures, so that's all I needed. Right next to that was the Roman Forum. It was a small valley between two hills where there were ruins of ancient roman architecture. Pretty cool. Next to that was the Piazza del Campidoglio. It used to be the seat of the ... read more

After managing to get to the Athens airport and from the Rome airport to my hostel all by my lonesome, i managed to catch up with my cousin Claire and her boyfriend Sam. Not before falling headfirst into the pavement after tripping up a kerb, very embarrassing but i have some scars to show for it so its ok. That day we wandered around Rome, i showed Sam and Claire the Roman Forum and the Coleseum and because i had allready seen it i was able to impart some basic knowledge. We also went to see some catacombs where they buried christians and popes in pagan times. After that it was off to the pub to watch Australia play Japan, which was an awesome game, go aussies!! The next day we did a guided tour of ... read more

The first day on Santorini was quite dissapointing, spent most of it on the ferry. However when we finally arrived we were treated to dinner on a cliffside restaurant overlooking the caldera, so that made up for it. Santorini is part of a volcano, so consequently there are breathtaking views, lots and lots of stairs and lots of smelly donkeys to take the lazy tourists up the stairs. After dinner we wandered lazily through the maze of streets with cute little shops selling all manner of tourist tripe, but a few selling genuinely nice stuff. I was quite restrained, the weight of my pack being enough to persuade me not to buy too much stuff. On the second day in Santorini we went and climbed the volcano. It is quite a recent volcano the last eruption ... read more

hi everyone, sorry it has been awhile since we last wrote, but we have been having too much fun in tuscany. we stayed at an amazing campsite, which was much more like a resort. There were 7 pools, 3 good restaurants, and the grounds were beautiful. Not to mention, the wine was amazing and cheap. We also met some wonderful people and matt fell in love. Just kidding, but he did meet a really cool girl named Marley. Could you imagine if matt and marley were to marry? Right now we are in rome and tomorrow we are heading to Cinque Terre in the italian riveria. we are not able to put up pics because we forgot the cord and we dont have money to put pics on a cd. we will send some of our ... read more
