Well the last time i talked to you all i was in Florence. That day we did a ton of things. Our walking tour took us through the city pointing out the church where Dante, Micheolangeo (i dont know how to spell it haha) and some other famous guy that i canàt think of right now. We also walked down a famous bridge that had very exclusive shops that you pretty much had to be invited into and then we carried on to the Droumo church where we climbed 437 steps to the top of the dome to see the whole city of Florence and get some really good pictures. From there we went to a church that wasnt really on our lists of must sees but it had started raining and it seemed like a ... read more

So we said goodbye to our lovely hosts in Holland, Leonie and Sam, and headed off for the boiling hot temperatures and long queues of Rome. We arrived safely and headed for our hostel. We arrived at the address but it looked like a deserted building, and we thought 'ah shit we have been ripped off'. We asked around and all we had to do was press the buzzer for the hostel, derrr!!! But still it turned out that we had to stay at another hostel around the corner because there was a Gas leak in the one we were meant to stay at, eek!! So Ciáo Roma it was for us. We immediately started the sightseeing as we only had 3 days to see Rome. So we put on our walking shoes and headed for ... read more

I arrived in Rome at the ridiculously early hour of 7am on the 21st July. I immediately discovered that it is summer in the northern hemisphere and the temperatures were pushing the high 30's. After a brief train and metro journey I arrived at my hostel, the Pensione Ottaviano. A hostel in a prime location about 100m from the North East corner of the Vatican. Seeing as I had a good 6 hours before Joel, Justin and Barry arrived I decided to set out on my own and do a bit of exploring, I had literally only gone about 20m before I was asked whether I wanted to go on a free tour of the Vatican. Excellent. Our guide took us first to Saint Peter's Basilica. In front of the basilica is St. Peter's Square, a ... read more

Wow so much has happened since I last wrote. I have been keeping a track of what I've been doing on the back opf postcards and have brought them to the computer with me so that I can remember a bit more. It is at the point now where days are blending together. That is why I try and write regularly so I can pass on as much as possible, as I know that people are traveeling vicariously through me. The last time I wrote was in Venice, beautiful city. We had a long drive again the next day and stopped in Pisa. Wouldn't you know it, the tower is still leaning what a surprise. Apart from that there is not a lot there. But very funny to see everyone posing for photos holding it up ... read more

Got here around midnight and after some searching found a fairly priced hotel. Spent all day just walking around, looking at all the sights. Personally I liked the colosseum the best, unfortunately we got there too late to enter. In the evening we went to the Trevi Fountain. Viking and Pri walked down to get a nice picture close to the water and immediately one of the guys selling roses came up to them. Pri being from Brazil and just recently coming back from our stop in Morocco very well know their tricks. This guy was persistent though and offered to take their picture on the edge of the fountain. He basically took the camera from Viking and put the entire bouquet of roses in Pri's hands all while she tried hard not to touch them. ... read more

Today we didnt start as early as yesterday, thankfully, but headed of to ancient rome and the Coliseum. Managed to navigate our way through Rome's Metro and walked out of the station, to see the Coliseum right in front of us - in all its glory. This thing is massive!!!!! Its actually amazing how it is still standing, the top part of it looks like it is going to fall down, and incredibly there is a busy road only about 5 metres from one of the sides of this great stucture. All around the area there are weird men dressed in the cheesiest roman costumes you can imagine - all trying to get picutres and then charging for them. We went for a little walk before we did anything else with the Coliseum, mainly to find ... read more

even tho we were both up and out of the campsite by 8am, the queues at the Vatican museums were horrendous - they seemed to go on for miles, with probably about a mile worth of people, about 4/5 across......... Guess what - we didnt bother with it. The end of the queue was right by St.Peter's Square, so we had a look in. As we were looking around in amazement at the structure and the grandure of the place, we noticed a queue building up and people going through an airport scanner, so we had a look and it turned out it was the entrance queue for St.Peter's Basillica and the tombs of the Popes. We did the audio tour of the Basillica, which was good, although a little confusing as the amount of detail ... read more
