Today we didnt start as early as yesterday, thankfully, but headed of to ancient rome and the Coliseum. Managed to navigate our way through Rome's Metro and walked out of the station, to see the Coliseum right in front of us - in all its glory. This thing is massive!!!!! Its actually amazing how it is still standing, the top part of it looks like it is going to fall down, and incredibly there is a busy road only about 5 metres from one of the sides of this great stucture. All around the area there are weird men dressed in the cheesiest roman costumes you can imagine - all trying to get picutres and then charging for them. We went for a little walk before we did anything else with the Coliseum, mainly to find ... read more

even tho we were both up and out of the campsite by 8am, the queues at the Vatican museums were horrendous - they seemed to go on for miles, with probably about a mile worth of people, about 4/5 across......... Guess what - we didnt bother with it. The end of the queue was right by St.Peter's Square, so we had a look in. As we were looking around in amazement at the structure and the grandure of the place, we noticed a queue building up and people going through an airport scanner, so we had a look and it turned out it was the entrance queue for St.Peter's Basillica and the tombs of the Popes. We did the audio tour of the Basillica, which was good, although a little confusing as the amount of detail ... read more

Firstly and update on Vienna. The last day that we had there was spent just walking around, even though had a great time seeing all the old buildings and learning about them. We both didnt know that Austria came about as part of the downfall of the Roman Empire, and you can see the roman influence all around Vienna. We went to the Lippanzaner Museum which was cool, was more about the horses in the Spanish Riding School than the actual school. The train journey to Venice was long and early - started at 6.30am. We both fell asleep near straight away, i woke up an hour later to find us in the Alps, where most of the journey from then on was. They look better than they do in the films and postcards - wish ... read more

having mastered the trams, tubes and buses (maybe i shoulda payed attention in german class!!), we got to the Schonbrunn palace, and wow, its huge!! cant upload photos at the moment, but you'll get them when we can. lovely palace, used to be a summer hunting lodge for the habsburg family, and what a 'lodge' it is too. lovely gardens, and the biggest water garden feature you will ever see - Charlie Dimmock eat your heart out!! we did the james bond thing last night, and went on the giant ferris wheel in the prater park, and started to watch "the fly" in the open air at half nine, as part of a film festival - a different horror film every night for a month, and its still warm at that time of night!! was great ... read more

We didn't think that we would be doing one of these everyday, but we have done and seen so much today, we couldnt leave it for another day, so here goes. We started the day looking at the map of Prague trying to find the way upto the castle, when we noticed that there was a church on the way called St.Nicholas. Having read about it in the guide book, we decided to pay it a visit on the way - we were so glad that we did, I think our bottom jaws are still in there somewhere. Cathy's exact words where that having seen several different churches, she had never seen one like this. The detail was amazing, from the paintings on the roof, to the statue's and the gold that was everywhere. We then ... read more

Well where do we begin? The megabus down to Glasgow was great, well it was from Dundee onwards, a Italian girl got on with a tv and we got upto min updates on the Final. Some more Italians got on at Perth, so it ended up a little celebration. Got to Glasgow and the bus driver was a little scary to say the least, but George Square was something to be seen - it was like we had been transported to Italy with them all over the place and out of cars etc. Then there was the Airport longest 6 hours of my life, Cathy managed to get some sleep, although she did say i did wake her up with the ten mins of sleep i did get by snoring (Me snore, never). Very clean airport ... read more
