Upon exiting Belgium, the next stop was The Netherlands! We met up with Joop and Annet, Sara´s family, in Maastricht where we toured around the city a bit had some lunch and saw some sights. It was lovely to see them and be in the country with some locals. Then it was on to their home in a quaint town called Sittard. We rested and caught up for a bit then walked in and around town, saw the old city walls and had a beer. The next day we toured the countryside, crossing many rivers, one on a car ferry! We had a snack by the river in the company of many sheep which notably still had their tails attached. Not many flies over here perhaps? Anyway after that we went past and saw the house ... read more

After London it was onto the Eurostar to Brussels! Warned by many that it was a boring city (there certainly were alot of grey nomads about) we were pleasantly surprised. Had a fantastic hotel, gorged on chocolates and waffles and beer (Tim) we also went to a traditional brewery here and sampled the local beer, Lambic a room temperature flat beer! Very good actually. We took a day trip to medieval Ghent where we climbed the local bell tower circa 1200 and something for the most amazing views ever! Watched some rowing races down the main canal and had some more waffles.....mmm waffles.... oh and some lovely churches of course. ... read more

Europe August 25th 2011

Hello All, To start with this is a azertyuiop keyboard, not qwertyuiop... (we are in Belgium so please forgive our mistakes/this is going to take forever). So! After the godawful flight that most of you are probably familiar with we arrived at Linton and Fliqs (Tims school friends). They live in London fields, zone 2 about 15 minutes from the city. We had our own room courtesy of Dave and felt right at home, almost like we were living there! So we did venture out and do some touristy things such as the london eye (at night, spectacular), the Tower of London (where we both got to shoot a thing like a trebuchet), The War Rooms of Winston Churchill and walked around all day seeing the usual stuff like buckingham palace, westminster abbey and the like. ... read more

Next stop was the east coast to Buffalo New York, and a three hour time difference which totally stuffed us up. Visited Niagara falls from here, where my favourite thing was definitely the Maid of the Mist cruise where we got right up close to the magnificent, awe inspiring falls. Wow!!... read more

We took a break from our shopping and did a smallish day trip (5hrs each way) to the Grand Canyon while we were in Vegas. Having the car is a godsend and you kindof get used to driving on the wrong side of the road scarily enough! Hope I can go back to the normal way.... Anyways no words can describe the magnificence of the canyon so here's a few photos........ read more

The next item on the road trip agenda was Las Vegas. A pretty crazy place that was ultra bright, ultra loud and ultra crowded and expensive. But also Ultra FUN!!! went a bit nuts with the credit card here, as there were heaps of really good factory outlets. Mmmm shopping..... was one of my favourite days so far. Sad, non? Anyways we didnt gamble much except on the pokies as I preferred to spend my cash on said shopping. Had a great night out where I convinced the girls to dance on the bar at coyote ugly... kept our bras on though. ... read more
