''...the green and troubled land of
tourist brochures and news headlines.''

Quote from: Ireland, A Novel by Frank Delaney

Warmed and cooled by the North Atlantic stream and location respectively, Ireland is never extremely cold or extremely hot.

This celtic isle is stoney grey, rugged mountains, cliffs and dewy greenness. Windswept and misty, you will likely need an umbrella anytime.

From the ring of Kerry to the tatched cottages of Conamera to the Giants Causeway, may the road rise to meet you and may your hassles be small ones.

Ireland has folklore, lively music, dance and haunting ballads. Kiss the Blarney stone and join the locals in one of the pubs which outnumber just about everything for a pint of black and tan, or ten. Then rise up yer skirts and kick up yer heals for a bit of mighty craic with fiddles, harps, jigs and reels.

Omagh - Ireland Europe » Ireland
Hi all, I'm still getting used to the blog, so thanks for the messages and comments - some of which I've only just found. We're in Omagh in Northern Ireland now. Drove away from our lovely Castle and are now in a B&B for 2 nights. Went to a great Folk Park this afternoon here with lots of dressed up people to tell us about which really makes a difference. Tomorrow a big day heading up to the Giants Causeway and then derry (thanks Renate - we hope). Monday drive to Dublin then fly to Madrid. Will update on the last [View Full Entry]

update from Eire Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Swords
We spent the night on the beach in Rush. It was very peaceful on the north coast of the Irish Sea. We are headed to Howth today to meet up with Dave and Molly from Bellingham( owners of Uisce). Yesterday we went to Guinness and the temple bar district in Dublin. We are at an internet cafe right now and will post more when we get wi-fi elsewhere. Scott and Amber [View Full Entry]

Last Days in Dublin Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Dublin
So I'm writing this blog a long time after the fact, but I figured that I needed to finally finish up the story of our trip out here. I wrote most of the last blogs on the trip and then just posted them later when I had internet access, but after this one I should be mostly caught up. The day after Glendalough I found that I was not feeling very good. I woke up with a sore throat and it started to worry me. I felt better later, but was really groggy and tired all day. Nonetheless, we made it [View Full Entry]

On a budget

On Wednesday, we decided to go out of the Dublin area and see the countryside. I had read a lot about a monastery called Glendalough that was founded by St. Kevin in the 7th Century. At one point, it was one of the major religious centers in Ireland. We paid 20 Euros to take a bus out to the site and got to spend 3.5 hours there. It was easily a place that I could spend a few days in. It lies in part of the Wicklow Mountains in a national park south of Dublin. Glendalough is one of the most [View Full Entry]

Arrived Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Dublin
We made it ! Well, we finally arrived in Dublin at 8:45am (12:45am pst) . We had a delay in O'hare for mechanical failure that they had to repair.......That freaked Amber out, so we got a beer while we waited. It took us and hour and a half to figure where to meet the van rental company. They were great when we met them. We got the run down on the camper and how to drive in Ireland and were off........then...... Scott killed the van twice in driveway. Turns out first gear was a little higher up in the shifter(doesn't work [View Full Entry]

First Day in Ireland Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Dublin
This morning we woke up around 5:30 am to head out to the airport for our Aer Lingus flight to Dublin. One major thing that my family has learned about travel of our kind is to be really conservative with the items you bring, and that was reinforced at the airport. Also, make sure that you check to see the bag requirements of any airlines that you might travel. We checked British Airways’ regulations on the way out and had no problem. Apparently, though, Aer Lingus considers flying from Scotland to Ireland domestic, instead of international, so they only allow one [View Full Entry]

Ireland - Dublin  Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Dublin
My Dublin weekend away On Saturday 5 September 2009, my boyfriend Paul & I took a trip to Dublin, Ireland, for many reasons. As I had already travelled through Ireland in 2008, I was not particularly interested in visiting the country again. However, one of my good friend's, Annik had just moved over to Dublin from Australia so I had always planned to go visit her. So when the opportunity came up one day at work where Ryan Air had £1 flights for sale, I thought why not. I knew Paul always wanted to go to Ireland and that we [View Full Entry]
