Green, Gaelic & Guinness…Ireland Our first day in Ireland felt like a truly international day. After flying from Liverpool, England to Dublin, Ireland, we had to take a detour to the Chinese embassy. En route, we passed Irish pubs, Polish markets and Ghanaian restaurants. Once there, we presented our visa applications to the Chinese clerk - all in order so that we’d be able to traverse Russia, Mongolia and China later in our travels! Trivia: What is the second most spoken language in Ireland? Answer: Chinese! As expected, we found Ireland to be a very charming place. In fact, we’re not alone. It’s said that Ireland has more tourists per year than actual residents! We started our Irish adventure in Dublin and did a big counterclockwise loop passing through Northern Ireland, along the northern coast and ... read more

it's been a while since i've written a proper blog (and this one won't be too long either)...my apologies on that...i've been a bit busy trying to squeeze the most out of the eurail pass that marc and i got. we did a WHILRWIND tour of scandinavia - if we were't sleeping or on a boat or hiking we were on a train, there was no downtime at all. norway was spectacularly beautiful. took a fjord cruise down the longest and deepest fjord in the world. cliffs that went straight up into the sky and straight down to the water. train rides through mountain passes and valleys...ferry rides through tiny islands to even tinier villages. our plan to get to the UK was to take a ferry from stavanger norway to newcastle or up through the ... read more

So we were in Kinsale on Friday and Saturday. The town was lovely... theres no other way to describe it. To me it seemed like it was a bit like the Hamptons or Cape cod, I didn't meet anyone that actually lived in the town, just the surrounding area. Mom and I just explored the town all day then went out for a drink Saturday night. After she headed back to the hotel I went back to the bar, then out to a true afterhours European dance club. I thought it was pretty ironic because the song that they closed on was "New York, New York"! Apparently theres a beauty pagent called the Rose of Trailee. The girl that won this year was a New Yorker and everyone in Killarny and Kinsale thought I was her. ... read more

Hi Guys, Having visited Dublin for a couple of days and visited the Guinness Factory, the management were so impressed with my Guinness drinking abilities that they immediately offered me a job as their Chief Guinness Taster. Just to prove it I have enclosed a picture of me in the tasting laboratory. You've either got it or you haven't! When not involved with this arduous work I'm normally out on the town in Dublin making sure the pubs there are pouring the right quality stuff whilst enjoying the Craic of course.... read more

Hi, I'm Peggy. I've never done a blog before, but I decided to create a travelblog for my trip to Ireland with my cousin, Pat. Both of us will be adding to this blog whenever we come across an Internet Cafe on our travels. I've wanted to see Ireland since I was a child and when I said so to Pat a few months ago she said, Me too. I started planning, primarily using the Internet, and finally picked up our tickets on Saturday, August 25, 2007. We'll be away for three weeks, spending some time in London and the rest navigating around Ireland in a rental car. The plan is to stay in B&Bs in Ireland so we'll get a chance to meet local people. I'm a little nervous about not having reserved ahead, but ... read more

Adam and I have recently discovered being a commuter couple again does have the occasional luxury attached-being so far apart, we have every reason now to spoil ourselves in the time we actually do get to have together! So, our first treat to ourselves has been a road trip around southern Ireland. Adam got his taste of the jetsetter lifestyle, flying into Dublin late Friday night, where I picked him up and away we went. Crashed for the night in Dublin, stopping only long enough to wander along the very crowded streets of Temple Bar and enjoy the amusing scenes created by late night revellers, before making an early start west to Galway. The city of Galway is very quaint, offering true Irish hospitality at every turn. Heading to a local pub, we sat down to ... read more

Been wandering around now for upwards of two hours trying to find the bay. A bay. Any body of water larger than a river. The utter lack of streetsigns once one leaves the city proper is making this rather difficult. After a time I had only the general cardinal directions to help me - and once I found myself in suburbia, they were no help at all. I've plopped down in the 'Douglas Community Park' to enjoy the shade before I try to find my way back to the part of the city I know. Next time I try this, I think I'll just follow the river. Now this is not to say I'm not enjoying myself - on my walk I got into a richer part of town: all the houses were gated, set back ... read more

We stayed at the hostel where I had lived in Glasgow exactly 8 years ago...only problem was, it was totally different and in quite poor shape. No further evidence needed than the overflowing 3rd floor toilet which woke us all up around 3 am when the water soaked underneath and bit into the fire alarm. It soon after soaked out the poor lads sleeping on the 2nd floor, pretty much ruining their morning. It was now my turn to drive - mind you, on the left. It actually surprised me how quickly I remembered how to drive properly over there (and that the left lane is the slow lane!). Drove west through the Argyll Forest Park and soon found ourselves on the perilously narrow single-track to Kilfinan. These roads are intensely curvy, and sometimes necessitate going ... read more

Long time no write! Ive worked the past five days though, which is why. Its busy for me between shopping and sleeping and trying to have a life and work. Now, i know youre rolling your eyes at the "shopping" aspect of this stress, but i only came here with a suitcase!! And we don´t have a dryer!! So if i wash my ONE PAIR of jeans then I can´t wash my sweats!! And its strange.. 8 hour shifts 5 days a week: who does that?¿ Though I´m adjusting, even to this spanish laptop i use. Oh man, last night after work we went to nachos spanish fiesta. Nacho is a spanish chef, and he cooked at least 20 dishes with patri (my roommate) and rosa (her friend) and then we all went over and ate. ... read more

Well, I'm sad to say we have made our last stop on this world tour but did we go out with a bang! While in France we were frantically searching for a place to stay in Dublin only to find out that the weekend of our arrival was also the semi final for Ireland's Gaelic football teams. Time after time we heard "Sorry, all booked up that week." This was the first time on the trip where we actually wondered what we were going to do. Luckily we kept our cool and Emmanuel's rental savvy kicked in. A few emails later Emmanuel had found us a two bedroom apartment in a very nice residential area of Dublin right next to the Dart which took us everywhere we wanted to go. We were grateful for this rental ... read more
