Having come to Belfast to work, I have been blessed to form friendships with two wonderful Aussie girls who have been an endless source of fun and entertainment since my arrival here. I have turned to my girlfriends Claire and Nadia for dinner dates, chocolate fests, tea and coffee hits, movie marathons and the occasional bit of outdoor exercise (though the latter would be definitely be in the minority of our time spent together). After many, many hours spent hanging out at each of our various shabby apartments in the same accommodation complex where we all live, we decided it was time to venture further afield for a weekend of all things girly. Being only two hours south of Belfast, Dublin is the obvious choice for a weekend away. And so to Dublin we went! Having ... read more

I left off from my last travel blog ready to spend my last weekend in Ireland. On Thursday Ray, my co-worker, took me out to play golf. Let me set the background of my golf game. I really like playing but I am awful. My idea of a good time on the golf course is driving the cart, drinking a few beers and enjoying the time with my friends outdoors. I cheat a lot and sometimes don’t keep the score. The 3 guys I was playing with all have a handicap between 10 - 15. I didn’t even know what a handicap was until this year. For those who don’t know what a handicap is - let’s just say they are very good. Needless to say I was in for a disaster. I started terrible mainly ... read more

So, the first cheap flight with Ryan Air, the day had finally come! What can I say, Eindhoven airport was small but modern. The Ryan Aeroplane... well, could do with a taste upgrade. They are cheap flights for us, so one can't complain, but for example, the seats do NOT recline, and have no seat pocket. I'm also sure the crambed in as many seats as they possibly could, so not much leg room for me. And the (very bright) yellow plastic on the back of all head rests..... dunno, but I can't recommend taking flights for more than 2 hours with them without needing aspirines for headaches.... The flight was pretty smooth though, not much of a delay. Dublin airport was as I remembered it, so a wee bit chaotic, and the queue at Budget ... read more

I AM VERY NEARLY OUT OF THE 2 MONTH MARK! This is good. according to patri, month 2 is the hardest. Just past the excitment and newness of month one, things settle in, you reconsider all your decisions, over and over.. i agree with her! But its all grand, of course. The fringe festival has had its way this week, and I am an Official volunteer. Not that i´ve done much: tonight will be my 2nd time volunteering. On thursday, I picked up a photographer from the airport, who was with a woman who may or may not have been his girlfriend. Regardless, Mim and Matthew were very sweet people, and didn´t know someone was meeting them at the airport, so very excited to see me! It was cool. He was a photographer for the parkour ... read more

Greetings friends, I had hoped to write earlier, however we have traveled to some of the more remote areas where they have not yet invented internet:) Here is a summary of our trip so far: There are 11 people in our group. There is 1 from Scotland, 2-Boston, 2- Penn, 1 from Germany, 2 from Austria, and myself. Ages range from early 20's to 50's. Since leaving Dublin a few day ago we have visted Kildare, Portlaoise where we vistied Dunamase Caste, and did some hiking. We traveled through Durrow, to Cashel where we visited one of Ireland's most spactacular structures- The Rock of Cashel. We then traveled to Caher to see Cahir Castle. From there, we traveled to Cork, which is the second largest city in Ireland. There I was blessed with the "gift of ... read more

Internet Cafes in Ireland : My wife and I are flying to Ireland this weekend for an 11-day CIE International tour starting in Dublin and continuing south and west through Kilkenny, Waterford, Cork, Ring of Kerry, Killarney, Galway, and points between before flying home from Shannon. I’d like to send e-mails from Ireland to family and friends at home. My current internet provider is Roadrunner (@nyc.rr.com). Just how do Internet cafes work over there in terms of available facilities, costs, hours, specific requirements, etc? How does one find these places and are they readily available in the cities mentioned above? Many thanks. Mike (shamrock838) ... read more

Well, I flew into Dublin VERY early and got a shuttle to my hotel. Which was close to the airport, but alas...nothing else. I was exhausted considering I got NO sleep and it was now around 0600 Dublin time. I wanted to see the city--of course--and atleast have a Guiness. But, I needed to sleep for a bit. Well, the desired 3 hour nap turned into a much needed 6 hour nap and so I took a quick shower and headed into the city via shuttle back to airport to catch the city bus which was 6 Euro round trip. So there I was in Dublin Ireland with no set agenda. I decided to walk around the shops and then see if I could catch any tours. First I walked through Trinity College and then to ... read more
