On Thursday (15th October) we left Killarney and our first stop was at a beach. The weather was quite 'fresh' but not freezing and the sun was shining so we decided to go for a walk down the beach and through the water. Far out, the water was absolutely freezing! First there was the inital shock of the cold water on my feet and ankles then it kind of went numb but then it was so cold that it just hurt. There were a couple of people surfing - craziness! We kept on driving along the coast admiring the ocean and green rolling hills. The weather again was perfect and the sky was blue. Our tour guide Mike, told us about the Potato Famine that started around 1845-46 when the potato crops that were so heavily ... read more

Allo readers. What's the craic? It's me again, and this time I'm on time! I would like to make a point. After spending a week driving along the south coast of the beautiful country of Ireland, I am quite convinced that I have discovered a conspiracy behind the “droughts” we were forced to endure when growing up in Gunnedah…. Ireland has been secretly stealing all the rain from the rest of the planet. Thieving bastards! It has done nothing but lash down for a whole week, with nary a crack o’ te sun in the days. But, avid readers, that didn’t stop it from being a righteous adventure. We decided to leave around midday on Monday 31st of August and make for Waterford. Wherever the hell that was. Armed with a Peugeot 307 lent to us ... read more

Tuesday, July 7 We had a good night’s sleep after our busy day, but as we were drifting off, we heard the dolphins whistling to each other in the bay. We began our day with breakfast at the Last Cottage - Eggs, bacon (which is more like what we call ham here in the states), white pudding, scones, tea, and muesli. We also met the young couple staying in Margaret’s 3rd room; Laura and Noah, 2 first-year teachers from California. They were planning to bike the loop today. We began driving it about 10. Our first stop was an overlook with a view of Ventry Harbor. The water is so blue. It looked like the tropics. Ireland is a tropical island of sorts, as the Gulf Stream flows by the west coast. Farther down the road ... read more

Friday and Saturday, June 26-27 - Dinging Around Dingle The Dingle peninsula is one of the most amazing parts of Ireland. It’s like a smaller but less crowded version of the Ring of Kerry, with a little bit of everything including ancient ruins, the ocean, farms, the mountains, and music in every pub. There are over 2,000 archeological sites in Dingle. One could spend an entire trip in this area, exploring the nooks and crannies of the land and climbing the mountains. Milestone Bed and Breakfast Our bed and breakfast was situated just on the outskirts of Dingle, away from all the traffic and with a splendid view of the bay and mountains. In fact, our B&B had an interesting feature because it had an ancient mile stone standing in the front yard. Our hosts at ... read more

Friday: Kayaking in a few hours, and leaving in less than half a day. Time has flown. The memories and experiences I have gained have been incredible. Thursday Summarry: Took my last test for my literature course, and then ferried over to the Blasket Islands! It was a great ride over(most of my friends didnt agree, they didn't have one of their first play pens on a pontoon, so they weren't used to the motion of a boat in waves, ha). The views of the pennisula were magnified on the water. On the Blaskets I got literally 6 feet from a seal, it was incredible. More on the Blaskets later, this is costing me money for internet right now.. and I have to go figure out all of my flight/connection info. Thank you all for commenting, ... read more

Saturday: Horse Back Riding We went horse back riding through the Dingle Mountains. Ashley if your reading this, major props to you. My horse was only trotting, and I felt like I was going to fall off. Sunday: Mount Brandon Climb Sunday we trekked up Mount Brandon, second highest peak in Ireland, standing at 952 m. No where near as intense as Half Dome, but still fun and beautiful. I now understand why “hill walking” or in the U.S. Mountain Climbing is so popular. It’s such a rewarding experience, traversing a glorious peak. God certainly is the greatest artist known to man, the views climbing up that Mountain were so magnificent, so unreal, and so simply beautiful. , Unfortunately my pictures and videos don’t capture even a 10th of its majesty. But nevertheless, I’ve put together ... read more

Monday Summary: Class started this morning, I’m taking Contemporary Irish Literature. It was very obvious I was an Aerospace Engineering Major, definately not like my Tech classes! Danny Sheehy came and spoke this morning, he’s a Blasket Island Poet who is full of life, passion, spirituality, and spunk. He said something that really stood out to me: “You can’t fear the bad days, without them you cant fully enjoy the good ones.” Food: Dinner at the Pub we went to the first night. Had some awesome veggie fajitas. Pub Crawl: Nicest Irish Bar here, bar snraa or something similar, and then we ended up back at small bridge. Awesome Irish music tonight good fiddle, guitar, annd flute player. Afterwards another guy played some good old fashioned American tunes, like Brown eyed girl, Sweet Home Alabama.
