Cougar Hunter We spent our last day in Dublin burnt out and lounging around Dublin like hobos. At one point during the day Tara did her best to burn the house down by plugging in her hair dryer set on the wrong voltage. She ended up just frying her hair dryer and catching the converter on fire. I still believe I saved the day when she was about to use her laptop to see if the converter and adaptor still worked. I Rob took us to another American style bar last night. It was a three-floored wonderland of goofy Greek and Egyptian artwork, lights and Vegas dance music. It was like a really bad counterfeit Vegas nightclub without all the drugs and $9 beers. Instead the beers were only $7 a piece. I miss free booze ... read more

. . . but before we left Dublin we decided we needed one more night of destruction to really thank Rob for all of his hospitality :) First we were off to the largest club I've seen yet. Four stories of dancing and mayhem in a place that looked like it had been plucked straight out of Vegas. Lights flashing everywhere with gaudy statues and horrific paintings filling up every inch of space that wasn't already occupied by thousands of Irish kids and tourists out for 10Euro beer night. Thankfully we weren't there for more than a pint before we were off to the greatest non-traditional club/bar we'd been to yet. You'd have no idea this place even existed unless you noticed the large bouncer out front having a smoke and waiting to glare at you ... read more

At long last! Writings from my week in Ireland. MAY 4 - MAY 11 We arrived in Dublin on May 4, and took a bus to Stillorgan Village, the suburb where we were staying for a couple days. My friend Elizabeth's mother is a nurse in Infectious Disease in St. Louis, and had worked with two Irish doctors over the years; Bill who now lives in Dublin, and Mary who now lives in Cork. We were able to stay with both of them. We knew the basic parts of Ireland we wanted to see, but did not have a plan formulated when we arrived, since we had just finished a busy semester and week of travel. We had expected to continue at the pace we had been keeping up as we breezed through Germany, Austria, and ... read more

Every traveler often dreams of stumbling upon a significant cultural event or tradition in the country they are visiting. Something that allows a tourist to experience and even briefly become a part of that nations culture. Well last week, we had that opportunity in Tralee. We arrived just in time for the last two days of the Rose of Tralee Festival. During the five days of this festival 'Roses' from all over the world (most from Ireland with a few from America, Australia and even one from Dubai, all with Irish roots) compete to be crowned the Rose of Tralee. Not only is there the beauty pageant activities, but the streets were packed with craft markets, street performers, and live bands played late into the night. On the last night, after the winner was announced, the ... read more

Hello everyone! I'm still in Ireland, now in Dingle and just enjoying my last few days here! I was supposed to go to Cork but ended up meeting a great group to travel with and we all cancelled our seperate plans to come here to Dingle together. It is BEAUTIFUL. Probably the most scenic place yet. Too bad I don't have a camera! but it's ok because the people I'm with are taking tons of pictures and they are going to send them to me. So I just signed up for Skype....just go to skype.com and sign up. It's free and if you have a headset with a microphone, I can talk to you for free! I just thought it was cool and convenient for anyone who has one! Otherwise, i can call for two cents ... read more

Well, one thing that we learned about Ireland is that internet connections are few and far between! So now we have a lot to catch up everyone on, especially if we hope to encourage a cult following of our blog by the end of the trip! Now we are settled in Norway (We arrived late last night) and have spent the day exploring Oslo, getting sun-burned (Even Norway is warmer than Ireland!) and enjoying David’s relatives wonderful hospitality. But David and I had such an amazing last few days in Ireland, we had to do one last entry on the remainder of our trip. So to review: From Cork to Kenmare (With Kinsale inbetween), From Kenmare we drove around the Ring of Kerry (To be described later) to Portmagee, From Portmagee to Dingle, From Dingle to ... read more

This morning we started with a full Irish breakfast. Our B&B owner was a wonderful cook and we all enjoyed leaving with full stomachs. After packing our bags, we loaded the car and set out for Dingle. Dingle is a good size town in County Kerry. Upon arrival we stopped in the Tourist Information office (TI) and got a map and then used the Rick Steeves Book to give ourselves a walking tour of Dingle. We saw lots of cute shops and some historical landmarks. We stopped into a church and took a gawk at some famous stained glassed windows by Harrry Clarke... they were amazing. After a quick prayer in the church, we stopped in the grocery store for some snacks and headed for the Slea Head Drive. This is a very famous drive around ... read more

We started our Journey today around 12pm. Since I was able to book our tickets with frequent flyer miles, my mom and I traveled to rochester for our flight. The trip was an easy drive and the time passed quickly. After the security checkpoint, we relaxed and waited for our flight. The flight from Rochester to Philly was pretty easy... it was a prop plane and luckily we were in the first row...because their was no airconditioning and apparently the front of the plane was heaven compared to the back (hell). We landed in philly on time and went to sit at the gate for our next flight. We were looking for my cousin Amy, but we were not sure if we missed her since she had warned us that she switched her hair color to ... read more
