We started our Journey today around 12pm. Since I was able to book our tickets with frequent flyer miles, my mom and I traveled to rochester for our flight. The trip was an easy drive and the time passed quickly. After the security checkpoint, we relaxed and waited for our flight. The flight from Rochester to Philly was pretty easy... it was a prop plane and luckily we were in the first row...because their was no airconditioning and apparently the front of the plane was heaven compared to the back (hell). We landed in philly on time and went to sit at the gate for our next flight. We were looking for my cousin Amy, but we were not sure if we missed her since she had warned us that she switched her hair color to red...perhaps to fit in with the Irish.... but it ended up we were at the wrong gate. So we grabbed out luggage(we always carry-on since my mom has a special ability to lose not only her luggage but mine as well) and headed for the real gate. We met up with Amy and grabbed a quick bite to eat. Then we boarded our flight and
we were off. The flight was good, no real problems or issues. I ended up sleeping most of the time. We landed in Shannon, Ireland approximately 9am, which was really 4am EST. We went thru the passport check quickly, picked up Amy's checked bag and headed for the rental car desk. The man at Hertz was a wonderful salesman, who not only tried to upgrade our car to an SUV, but was also encouraging us to get a GPS... those would have been an extra $30 a day... yikes! I signed off my first child to them and we were off. We walked outside and picked up our Puegot. I had decided that I would be the driver for the trip, but I was a little nervous about the whole experience. We decided to drive to Shannon Town Centre to pick up some flowers and a sim card for our cell phone before we headed to our cousin Maureen's house for lunch. We arrived in Sixmilebridge in time for a wonderful lunch with Maureen, Sharon, and Michael. We chatted away over a wonderful Irish spread and then headed out to visit our cousin Declan's grave. After a few tears, we
dropped Maureen off back at her house and got on the road. We were in for a 2.5 hour ride to Inch, County Kerry. I was doing pretty well driving.. only a few times I put the end of the car into the hedgerow. I found that I am an excellant left turner...so most times if there is a choice between a right and a left, I choose left. Soon, my eyes began to close from the jet lag and we had to pull over in a parking lot to catch a quick nap. This is where the rules started... Rule #1.. If you are going to sleep in a grocery store parking lot, try not to park need any onlookers. 😊 After a quick 30min nap, we were on the road again passing thru Castleisland, Castlemain. We ended up at our B&B for the night around 7pm. We checked into the Shamrock Inn with Mary O'Shea. She runs a wonderful B&B with a gorgeous view. We dropped off our bags and headed to eat at Sammy's beachfront store/pub/restaurant/bait shop. The food was wonderful and the view was great. After dinner, we took some snaps on the beach and headed
back for an early bedtime. We tucked ourselves in under on our heated mattress and tried to sleep off the jet lag.
