Last weekend I stayed in Dublin for once. All three of my roommates were traveling, so for most of the weekend I actually had the flat to myself - absolutely no complaints there. Friday was somewhat of a lazy day, but in the evening we went to the cinema to see "Be Kind Rewind" and after that, a bunch of us got together here to cook a big fancy dinner & dessert. Then after a small food coma we went to a couple of different pubs trying to find some traditional music, and ran into some friends on the way. Our quest took us to the north side of the Liffey River which is 50% more shady than the rest of the city so ... I don't think I'll be venturing over there at night any ... read more

I left London on the night of Thursday the 21st to visit an old family friend Huw at University College Dublin in Ireland. I bought Ryanair flights for ten pounds return including taxes, which is incredible. Actually the train to and from the airport cost more than double that. One of Huw's flatmates was in Paris for four of the five nights i was staying, so i had my own room and bed which was really nice. I arrived at Huw's at about 11:30pm on Thursday night, met some of his friends and we hung out in an apartment. On Friday morning we slept in, had some breakfast and Huw and I got on the bus and he showed me around the city centre. We had a pint of Guinness and some lunch. On Friday evening ... read more

Sorry this update is late! I've been busy working on apps and watching Lost this week. This week actually went by incredibly fast, since we got back so late on last Sunday (got back home close to midnight). Dublin was so much fun! We had a good first hostel experience, although I think I did develop some kind of rash from the sheets. From now on I am taking a sleepsack. We got in on Thursday night and pretty much went straight to bed after the obligatory facebook and email check. On Friday, we visited St. Patrick's Cathedral, Christchurch and Dublinia, which is a really cool interactive history museum. Unfortunately, everything in Dublin costs a ton of money to visit, so we spent more time on the outside of things than going in and looking. We ... read more

I had a friend from GW who is studying in Paris visit me this past weekend. It gave me a chance to see some more sites around Dublin. We visited St.Patrick's Cathedral and Christ Church. St.Patrick's is built on the site where they belief St.Patrick baptised christians in the 5th century. The church itself was built in the 1100's and is absolutely beautiful inside. Equally breathtaking is Christ Church which is literally a few blocks away from St.Patrick's. It was started in 1038 and has a crypt that you can visit below the church. However, the highlight of the weekend was our celebrity run-in. The Dublin International Film Festival is currently going on and there are a number of celebrities in town. As I've shared with a number of people, I had the lucky oppertunity of ... read more

Blarney Castle- Ireland Yesterday we took a day tour to Blarney to see the Blarney Castle and to kiss the Blarney stone. It took us about four hours to get there with a bus change in Limerick aka "Stab City". The Castle itself was't very big but it had lots of rooms and narrow passage ways. I was a bit nervous kissing the stone as from watching docos to reach the stone, you needed to lie on your back and hang off the side of the castle, but it was all good. Hopefully I will now be blessed with "The gift of the gab", which is what you're meant to receive once kissing the stone. After exploring the castle we walked around the rest of the grounds before having lunch and geading back to Dublin. Forthe ... read more

Well hi all, We've made it to Dublin and been here for nearly a week now. Very different to London - old, cold and a bit feral in places actually. Quite unimpressed with the number of females without teeth and arguments from some of the locals. Anyway, the absolute majority of people are really friendly and helpful here. Stayed with Lindy Foat for the first few nights and crashed on her couch. One word to describe her place: freezing!!! Poor thing the landlord is a tight ass and only has the heater on low. It was great to have lindy to show us about for the first couple of nights so we could get our bearings. Now we are staying with belinda cope and john, sharing the love around. We pretty much walked around Dublin in ... read more

The fact that we are alive after the flight over to Dublin is amazing. This was the worst flight I have ever been on. Not only were we flying with a cheap airline but the winds and rain when leaving Leeds to Dublin were such that our plane felt like it was on a bloody trampoline the whole way! To make matters worse, the plane was filled with rowdy, drunk boys laughing and yelling "we are going to die" and girls shrieking loudly at every slight bit of turbulence. So to say I was relieved at arriving safely is an understatement. Unfortunately our troubles didn't stop there and upon arriving at our so called 'hostel' which was unnamed and seemed to be some person's house with beds crammed into every room, we were told that they ... read more

Finally I get round to doing this last blog. Way out of date, but better late than never... As some of you didn't know, you'll see now there is an end to this story, or at least another beginning - yep, I'm in Dublin! but I'll leave that till later on; first, I've got the task of remembering back the last couple of months. I flew to Auckland from Melbourne, and for the first time since being on the other side of the world, suddenly really felt very far away. I'm not sure why, maybe the knowledge of New Zealand being that much more remote, two small islands in the middle of the pacific, maybe also the cooler weather, and the harsh blustery winds. I couldn't decide what to do in New Zealand, so was in ... read more

Another winter day has come And gone away In even Paris and Rome And I wanna go home Let me go home And I’m surrounded by A million people I Still feel all alone Oh, let me go home Oh, I miss you, you know Ok, so maybe that's a bit dramatic, but home is just around the corner! Already! Our 3 days in Galway were relaxing and odd. Kristen, Andrea and I stayed in each night, instead of going out, because it was raining constantly and we spent about 10 hours each day on a bus. Sitting in front of a cute little fake-fireplace-heater was awesome, mainly because of the red glitter on the fake logs... :) I used about 7 swiss miss hot chocolate packages in 3 days, ate gummy bears, and watched HORRIBLE ... read more

Hello everyone! I am in Dublin and have been since last night! The weather is the usual, cold, rainy, and now even WINDY..50mph windy! But.. I have managed to take the hop on and off bus tour of dublin and seen St. Patrick's Cathedral, Guiness Storehouse (brewery), and Temple Bar (famous market, shops, etc). It has been quite a day already and it is not even 4pm here! I just finished lunch at a cafe called bad ass cafe and was veery tastey! I do not have regular access to the internet, so i can not post pictures yet, but next destination is Amsterdam/netherlands in general and I will there I think! I had my first pint of irish guiness in Ireland last night after my arrival and I am feeling quite at home in the ... read more
