Another winter day has come And gone away In even Paris and Rome And I wanna go home Let me go home And I’m surrounded by A million people I Still feel all alone Oh, let me go home Oh, I miss you, you know Ok, so maybe that's a bit dramatic, but home is just around the corner! Already! Our 3 days in Galway were relaxing and odd. Kristen, Andrea and I stayed in each night, instead of going out, because it was raining constantly and we spent about 10 hours each day on a bus. Sitting in front of a cute little fake-fireplace-heater was awesome, mainly because of the red glitter on the fake logs... :) I used about 7 swiss miss hot chocolate packages in 3 days, ate gummy bears, and watched HORRIBLE ... read more

Hallo again! Tonight is our second night in Galway, on the west coast of the island. We are in apartments that face the bay, and I think my group of 3 girls is in the best one! We're in the penthouse, so we have two little porches and a huge terrace, all looking out over different parts of the city and the bay. We have two bedrooms, which combined comfortably house 5 people. Kristen and I are in one room and Andrea's got her own room because she was feeling sick yesterday. :( Today she's better, though! We have a heat vent that warms up our bathroom, which is fantastic, but doesn't quite make up for the fact that the water that comes out of the showerhead/tub faucet is only lukewarm and gets cool after about ... read more

There is internet service in the middle of nowhere!!! I'm in Glendalough right now (named for Glenn Da Loch), in County Wicklow, surrounded by the Wicklow mountains. We arrived by bus last night around 8 so we couldn't see how beautiful this place is. At 9:30 this morning I went on a walk with Laura G., Krista, and Andrea and we discovered both of the lakes this valley is known for. They're called Upper Lake and Lower Lake (...neither of them has to do with Glendalough...), and we're about half a block off of Lower Lake. Our hostel is bright yellow and doesn't quite fit with the greens and browns of this time of year, but it sure makes it easy to find! We walked along the footbridges by Lower Lake and eventually found a path ... read more

Hallo from Dublin!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!! It's a big city that's made of cement because there are few other resources. So it's not very pleasing to look at. I have lots of pictures of the cute little streets with shops, though. And a few of the big street we're on which is right on the Liffey. Very cool! Tomorrow we leave on a 6pm bus for Glendalough - I hear there's nothing there, but it's very pretty! Updates updates updates.... We drove from Edinburgh to Glasgow a few nights ago to catch a flight to Dublin - it was the shortest flight any of us had been on. We went up and came down. :) Luckily I'm not one to get motion sickness, and I don't get sick generally, so my trip has been fantastic! One of us ... read more

We're in Scotland! I've heard that Scotland is among the most beautiful places on earth, and I can officially say I agree. The hills are huge and long and there are colored sheep everywhere - and the fences are built out of little stones so they're amazing too. Two nights ago, on our second night in York, we went to a Panto performance (short for Pantomime, from what it sounds like) that had everyone hysterical. Panto performances are part of the Christmas season in the UK, and it's traditional for families to go every year. This year's performance was called Sinbad the Sailor and it was a million spoofs of recent movies and songs. The actors could actually sing and dance, so it was quite a feast to watch. Some of our group said they thought ... read more

Hi! I'm renting a hotel computer at the moment, free of charge as long as I give them a picture ID. YAY!!!!! This is just about the most amazing hotel ever - it has an automatic revolving door which makes getting in and out with luggage a bit challenging, and the lobby is incredible. There are 6 sets of black, brown, and tan square leather chairs set around marble tables (not glass, like I told you Mom) with zen-garden-type plants in black jars and tealights. And food and wine menus from the very high-class restaurant on this floor. Meals in the restaurant average $30. Ick. It has rained constantly since yesterday afternoon - it drizzled for most of the day yesterday, and it poured all day today. Only about an hour ago did we get the ... read more

Hi again! Tonight I'm in Bath, where the Romans created their largest bath/pump room a couple of years ago. :) I took all sorts of pictures of the bath house and the surrounding area, and since I have 2 new 2-gig memory cards, we're on track! This morning we visited Stonehenge, something that Kate said might not be a worthwhile experience...but everyone I've talked to has agreed that it was FANTASTIC. What we didn't expect to see was that it's right on the side of the road!!! And we had to go through a little tunnel to get to the right side, once our bus parked. We had a free audio tour and got to be closer to the monuments than I was under the impression we'd be. Lots of pictures there, too. The Avebury Stonce ... read more

January 8th 2008

Hi! Tonight's our last night in London, and then we head out for the middle of nowhere! We'll leave on the bus at 7:30am, which is 1:30am at home...so right when you're going to SLEEP I'm going to start taking pictures of the English countryside for you. :D We'll see Stonehenge, the Avebury Stone Circle, and stay in the city of Bath (in a hostel, I think). Yesterday and today have been 7am-12am kinds of days, with about 12 hours of walking, at least. Yesterday I already can't remember because of all we did today, but all of it was in Oxford. We were on the bus by 8ish, and off the bus in Oxford around 10. We toured the Bodleian Library, one of the oldest libraries in Oxford, and it was amazing. We didn't get ... read more

This has been the longest day ever. I took a nap during Kingdom of Heaven, and had a short dinner with Siri, and then we caucus-ed (which didn't do anything for me because the 416 people in the Noble Recital Hall were overwhelming). Since I'm not registered to vote yet, I couldn't sign up to be counted in Iowa - no problem, though, because Obama has won the first round by a LOT and I would've been counted in his group. I'm sure this is fascinating. It's still about 20 degrees below zero, and now there's wind, so it's even crazier. It's 9:39 pm. And I'm done. Love!... read more
