After working Most of the coast south coast we decided we had better speed up and visit the islands. So planning a route with a few stops on the east coast of the Peleponnese with the finally destination being the Capital; Athens. I won’t go deep into details about the other attractions of this journey so as not to bore. So just one I will mention, Dira Caves. These were amazing, I don't think there would be many to rival these, most of it is viewed by boat. I'll just let you check out some pics so you can make up your own mind. The first impressions of Athens were like a wake up to the western world. Navigating around Athens proved to be a little trickier for me than I had thought (I then realized ... read more

Walk to Oia at the end of Santorini Roger had some stuff he needed to do so I headed off alone for this one. I left early, 7.30 am, to walk from Fira to Oia. It was a really good walk around the edge of the caldera and took about 3 and ¾ hours. It began climbing up to the highest point of the caldera winding through several other villages. Some of the little streets passed through absolutely fabulous looking villa hotels. I noticed the “Relais and Chateau” signs and the “Small luxury hotels of the world”. As you would expect the outdoor furnishings/landscaping looked great with the odd whitewashed small boat for decoration, fabulous outdoor furniture and lots of manicured pot plants. Sadly I left the camera back at the hotel. The last section of ... read more

Hi Everyone! I am not going to apologize again for how long it's taken me to get another blog up as I have a)just accepted the fact that I am not going to be able to update this blog as much as I would like (I hope you can accept that, too) and b)I quite happy with the fact that I am out experiencing my trip instead of spend hours behind a computer telling you about it. That's not to say I don't love sharing my adventures with everyone, but I have found myself stressing over not writing as much lately and that's not good! Hopefully you and I can find a happy medium:) As I am sure you could tell, I absolutely did not come close to doing justice to Satorini. So while I am ... read more

I have 7 minutes before I am kicked off of this computer, so I am going to make this short. This is no secret, but Santorini is just one of the most beautiful places on earth. It's like Big Sur attempted poorly at an immitation of this. Dave and I managed to find the biggest steal on the island. We stubled across a modest, yet beautiful place tucked right into the cliffs of the Caldera. I will give more detail on the place later as anyone coming here on a bidget needs to stay at this place! Today is Dave's birthday. We rung it in by watching the sun rise over the island. Tonight we will head to the beautiful town of Oia to have drinks and dinner. Tomorrow...ROME!!! Time"s up.... read more

Hi Guys! Before I tell you about Greece (thus far) I need to make a few comments, or apologies, about my blog posts. Please try your best to overlook spelling and grammer errors. I usually consider myself a fairly decent writer, however I can't spell (I'm a spellcheck generation baby) and I am usually writing these very late at night or in quite a hurry and trying to squeeze as much information in as I can in the few minutes I have and don't have much time for proof reading. So please forgive me! There is also no way I can come close to doing justice to the experience I am having, because truly, it's beyond words. However, I will try my best to capture as much as I can and share it with all of ... read more

Hey everyone. I hope your all good. Things are all good with us. We left Matala 7 days ago now. It was a tiny village on the south coast of Crete. Really nice. Not too much to do so it was basically a lot of beach time. The sea there is crystal clear and its the best snorkelling Ive done yet. Saw so many different fish and all different colours. I had to buy a underwater camera to get pics . The bus in Matala went to 3 different places around there so we "did" all them. They were all small villages and were a lot like where we we were staying. Went to another archaeological up the road site called Festos. Most of the time we were just lazy We were going to do a ... read more

We are now in Santorini. The flight from Australia went quite smoothly except for an extra delay by Qantas in Singapore making it a 5 hour stop. At least this allowed for a nap of about 1 hour on the floor. We spent our first night in Rome. It was hot and we didn’t have much energy but enjoyed a short walk around the city backstreets and a meal out at night. We were pleased to get our Skype set up working and spoke to the girls at home via a video link. Quite fun really and next to no charge to do so. Small world story- caught the express train from airport to Rome and sat opposite a young family. Turned out they lived just off Tamborine Rd Lane Cove! Athens was a pleasant surprise ... read more

Hi, One of the perks in this job is during our bye weeks we often take a three or four day trip to someplace in Europe that we haven’t been to before. The Aegean Air flight into Athens was a considerable improvement over my first venture to Greece. In 1964 I took a boat from Brindisi, Italy through the Adriatic to Patras and then a bus over a treacherous tiny two-lane highway with sheer cliffs an inch or so from the wheels of our over loaded and careening vehicle. One missed turn and we would plunge five hundred or so feet to our death. I assumed the driver had made the trip before and hoped that was the reason he was passing on blind curves in the middle of the night with only his parking lights ... read more

Hello All, Well, Andrea and I have spent the last two weeks island hopping here in the Aegean Sea. We haven't done a great deal of sightseeing, mostly just relaxing and hanging out. Below is a short description of each island we've been to with some pictures. We're heading to Crete later this afternoon and after we spend a week there we're flying to Egypt! Mykonos We spent about four days here and had a good time. We stayed at a campsite in a bungalow with a beautiful view of the sea right out our door. The accommodations were primitive, but the view alone was worth it and the bungalow was a lot cheaper than any of the hotels. Mykonos is fairly expensive and has a reputation of being a place where people go to be ... read more

Hello to all the Canucks back at home and abroad! It sounds like Vancouver Island had a fantastic long weekend, with great weather to match a great celebration…not a bad way to kick off the summer! Well, even though we’ve been enjoying summer weather for the last 6 months, we still showed our “true north strong and free” pride yesterday and educated the Greeks in Canadiana. No we did not have a war of independence with the British or the French; No we are not American; No we do not all speak French; No we do not sound like Australians; and Yes we do love our country and on July 1st we celebrate it loud and proud!!! Canada Day, for Kelsey and I, started off by singing “Oh Canada” while we were still in bed. (Seriously!) ... read more
