NAXOS I’ve put in the last view from the hotel in Kalambaka looking up from the hotel at Meteora and St Stephens in the afternoon light. The girls had been drinking and said they saw in the shadows of the stone forest an African elephant head looking down on the town. Athens: After getting our gear and returning to the Jason Inn, we went upstairs for drinks on the top deck which had a fantastic clear view of the Parthenon about 1 km away. Later that evening after we had dinner, Di returned when the lights were turned on and got a good shot of the floodlit Pathenon. Up at 5.00am and we waiting to get into the restaurant hopeful that we could get an early breakfast so we could get away by 6.10, but the ... read more

Turkey was such a relaxing stop for us. A real slow-down of the hectic pace we had been on since we hit the Middle East a few weeks back. After nearly 3 months of traveling we both had set our eyes on home, and looked forward to our last stop: The Greek Islands. We had originally planned to leave Greece on June 6th...but our plans changed just as we left Turkey. My brother Shaun (Jess' new brother-in-law) has ben holding down the fort with our business...but after some exciting developments over the past few week we got an urgent message from home: Help! So both of us looked at it as an opportunity to get home and finally get settled-in...and an excuse to plan a future trip back to the Greek Islands. So we changed our ... read more

Right now I am on the island of Ios. I have completely fallen in love with the Greek islands and think I might stay for an addiitonal six weeks. Perhaps I will sell seashells by the seashore (there was actually a job opening for that!) haha Anyway, two girls on my tour are thinking of staying too. I will make my decision today or tomorrow to postpone my flight home from Athens. Very exciting!!! ... read more

We are still in Santorini but have moved to Kamari Beach. Our hotel is wonderful and seems very fancy when compared to some of our other places. We planned it this way and it has worked out well. The hotel has a swimming pool and the beach is 10 steps away. There is a great breakfast every morning. Jessica is in 7th heaven as they have yogurt, honey and fruit. Greek yogurt is very different but tasty. It is very quite here and we are just lazing around before we head home. We met some girls from Calgary and one turned out to have been Jessica's union rep from IGA. Yesterday we went to a Wine museum and tasting. Santorini is known for the wine that is produced here. The wine was not our style, but ... read more

Our first real vacation in 3 years, and what a place to spend it in! We headed to Kamari beach on the Greek island of Santorini. There we learned what it was like to be lazy again. We spent the first 3 days laying by the pool or next to the ocean soaking up the sun. We'll take as much sun as we can get considering our skin hasn't seen it in 3 years (and definatley won't for another year--yeah for Englands weather)! One week just wasn't enought, but we did get a good tan started. We stayed at a wonderful hotel called the Bellonias Villas. They also have the best pool on the beach with a spectacular view. It was nice being able to switch back and forth from pool to beach. The beach was ... read more

Island hopping through the Greek islands, it's a dirty job but someone has to do it! We are struggling through this task with our first stop in Rhodes. It remains pretty much the same from visit to visit. This stop was most pleasant with lovely spring weather and reduced tourist crowds. The Old Town is charming and the New Town seems to be growing. We did all of the standard tourist stops to the Avenue of the Knights, the Palace of the Grand Master, the Square for the Jewish Martyrs, and the main Plaka. We ate lots of Greek Salads, Moussaka, and Gyros and loved every mouthful. One memorable sight, near the harbor, was the large dog riding on a motor bike with his owner along the main harbor drive. The dog didn't seem to have ... read more

Wow - Mykonos is certainly not what we had expected!!! We arrived 3 days ago, and were greeted at the port by a handful of people asking if we wanted a room - normally there are hundreds! We chose one who informed us that we have arrived on one of the busiest weekends of the year - the Greeks' version of Spring Break. Bearing in mind Mykonos only has a population of 5000 - 30,000 students have descended on this small town for the weekend! Needless to say, it was a bit of a struggle finding somewhere to stay. We managed in the end and are staying outside of the town near the beach, about 3km away. Mykonos is a pretty town amazingly not too marred by tourists. There's Little Venice where all of the bars ... read more

Flying over Athens the city looked beautiful with red tile roofs and small cobble walkways. Upon closer inspection, the city is not quite as quaint. Bustling and congested it boasts the worst traffic in Europe. However the lack of charm is quickly made up for in the beauty of its people and the depth of its history. Athens is dripping in history. Some say Greece is the the lost Atlantis. Meeting up with my tour group has been amazing. Everyone is fun and up for a good time. There are about 30 of us total. Mostly from all over the united states, we also have some visitors from Canada and Australia. It has been wonderful to just sit back and not have to worry about transportation, how to see the sights, how to get to the ... read more

We are happy to report that after two days we can now sit and stand without pain. We are in beautiful Santorini now. It is an amazing island with so many wonderful views. The trip here was not so wonderful however. The travel agent booked us on a high speed ferry from Crete to Santorini which took 2 hours instead of the normal 4. She did not mention that it would feel like being on an amusement park ride. The ferry took off from the port and the ride was smooth till they picked up speed. The water started coming over the windows of the boat and we started slamming into the waves. People in the boat started gasping as we went up and down over the waves. We were not expecting this from the ferry ... read more
