Ahhhhh Santorini! This island quickly became ONE of our favourite places in the world. Actually, we were sold from the second we saw it as we approached it by ferry. The soaring cliffs with the hotels and towns perched along the top. It was beautiful. From the second we saw our hotel room we didn't want to leave, and automatically the Greeks that we encountered, in our hotel, restaurants, mini markets, were much, much friendlier than those we had met in Athens and Mykonos. Our hotel room was in a villa built right into the cliffs you see pics of, and our room was at the top of the hotel (we're talking 3 storeys) on it's own complete floor! We had so much privacy and space to lay out our deck chairs and laze about it ... read more

Good Day, Kalymnos, Greece! I arrived in Athens and took a good look at the fabulous architecture sites there. The next day I came into Kalymnos and just happened to walk into the exact week of the International Dive Festival of Kalymnos. This means that I get to dive for the next two weeks FOR FREE. Sponges Okay, let's back up. Kalymnos is famous for their sponges. The problem is that for the last 25 years, the mayors of the small island didnt promote tourism, they promoted the destruction of the natural wildlife -sponges - because foreigners wanted them (the world demand is 6 times more than the supply), and therefore it brought in a lot of foreign revenue. Infact, 70 percent of the islands revenue came from sponges. Somewhere along the way a disease ... read more

Hi again. We are in Milos now and having a great time. A few dramas getting here though. Our flight to Athens was late arriving due to a storm and we missed our connecting flight to Milos and there were no more seats for 3 days........... Managed to get a ferry the following morning so have lost a day here but not dwelling on it..... The island is beautiful and we spent the day yesterday on a sea kayaking tour. We paddled 12kms and were applauded by the others in the group (all experienced kayakers) as we battled some strong winds in a few places. It was great as we got to stop at some deserted beaches not accessible by land due to the huge cliffs. It was a greeat day and we were very proud ... read more

Hi Everyone, First we are sorry about the lack of photos, but no decent connection available to upload. We spent our last night in Athens in a roof top restuarant overlooking the Parthenon, which is lit up at nights, very atmospheric! Next day, 09/08/07 spent the morning packing before Vageli took us to Piraeus Harbour to catch our ferry the Anthea Marina. We had mananged to secure a cabin for the 10hr journey complete with bunk beds and a bathroom. The ferry was a ex channel crossing ferry and still had all the detailed maps of the UK and France up plus signs for duty free everywhere, very strange! We got a good nights sleep and arrived at Leros at 5am and after a quick taxi ride arrived at our new home at pantelli a small ... read more

Here are some of the events associated with food on our trip for a week to Rhodes, Myrna, Arlene and Myself. We stayed in the port city not far from the port itself, and just a walk away from the old City which is actually in a large castle area. This was a fantastic stay on this island with so many places to go, beeches to swim in absolutely beautiful, more beautiful old houses, more castles. We rented a car for 3 days and this was a blessing which allowed us to see so much more of the island and with a tour book in hand again we ventured off the main roads to see some of the most interesting sights. Our hotel, Angela's suites was a large kitchenette unit with a bedroom and sitting sofas. ... read more

We were really looking forward to Mykonos, simply so we could laze about in the sun and relax after the tripping about we'd done the first 4 weeks after we left London. The first thing that strikes you about Mykonos is how rocky it is! Next up is how Mykonos was packed with young single types, and we've never seen so many people trying to be soooo fashion conscious while at the same time wearing sooooo little! As for the nude sunbathers who would arrive in the middle of beaches where everybody else might be wearing at least SOMETHING on their bodies.... phew! We stayed at Platis Giolas Beach (like everywhere in Greece, it seems to have a different way of spelling it everytime you see it written down). It was a nice beach with heaps ... read more
