AKA: Bunny & Martin

After a 6 continent round the world trip in '07, we got home, milled around for a year and found we had yet another case of seriously 'itchy feet' and left home again in January 09 for another few years of travelling...

Flying into Gothenburg we flew over frozen lakes and green forests, a scenery quite spectacular in its own right. Touching down, we had one of the fastest exits from an airport ever, from landing, to customs, to outside the airport and on to the bus to the city… all up about 15 minutes and we didn’t stop in a queue once. Think this may JUST have beaten our speedy exit from Quito airport a few years back! A new record ;-) The airport bus was a quick 20minute drive down motorways lined with forests, lakes, charming lake houses and frozen waterfalls suspended down cliffs. And yet it was sunny! It was a crystal clear, sunny winter’s day – we even had to get out our sunglasses. Ten minutes into the city limits we arrived at the ... read more

And so time for another photo blog of our year in London - 2011. Highlights were finally moving into the flat we bought last year and Oslo's arrival in the UK (now it really feels like home here!), Fe and Doug getting married, another trip for my parents over to the UK and Europe, the Gautrelet-Jack family welcomed little Louis into the world, Maria and Ty came to visit from South Africa, a variety of different day trips out of the capital, Fe and Bunny embarked on a whole host of different and random courses (thanks 'groupon!') and a whole lot of other great moments... then there was the sad times like when both Carl & Tori and Fe & Doug deserted us to head back to the Southern hemisphere... will let the photos speak for ... read more

After almost a 12 hour delay, Andy and Bunny were finally on the way to collect Maria and Tyron from the airport. It was a late flight in and Maria and Tyron had had a long day at Joburg airport, so that night we briefly stopped by Andy’s flat to give them the tour and then headed straight back to our place. The next day Martin, Bunny, Maria and Ty set off very early for St Pancras Station and a train to Edinburgh, but we were rewarded by a beautiful sunrise as we pulled out of London… a good omen if ever there was one :-) The ride up was great; the scenery in general, but specifically as you enter Scotland, is just stunning. We arrived right on time and then headed to our apartment through ... read more

The Seychelles. A place name that conjures up pictures of paradise; and it didn’t disappoint. Of all our travels around the world and I believe this is our 80th (ish!) country... this is the most stunningly beautiful we’ve ever visited. The spectacular granitic islands that make up the Seychelles archipealogical area are simply awe-inspiring. After an 11.5 hour journey from London via Milan we arrived on the island of Mahe on Saturday morning. Next up we entered the balmy tropical outside temperatures, walked across the tarmac and boarded a small plane for the first island of our visit – Praslin. When we say small, it was one of the smallest we’d been on excusing scenic flights across places like the Okavanga Delta or The Grand Canyon. It took us a little by surprise but was very ... read more

Given the success of our camping trip to Pembrokeshire, Wales last August Bank holiday, we thought we'd try it again! This time we decided on Cornwall. ...Though we did learn slightly from last time and booked us into a camp ground a few months earlier!! On arrival, for some reason once again we were shown to our campsite down the back away from other campers by a friendly guy on a quad bike. We were pleased to be away from the rest and hoped we'd be able to repeat our open fire trick from Wales (having specially brought portable BBQs with us from London!), carefully placing our tents and car in a semi circle with the surrounding bush as background. A drive into nearby Newquay meant we could stock up on supplies.... and a night of ... read more

We flew into the airport at Nice and were immediately hit by the lovely, lovely heat! It was a beautiful day and we couldn’t wait to get out into it. We met up with Beth & Evan, Tish & Kent and Maurice (Beth’s Brother), picked up our rental car and headed down the beautiful coastal roads towards the Principality of Monaco, home of the rich and extremely rich. We parked near the epic Monte Carlo Casino and took in the stunning views out over the bay of Monaco, a vast array of incredible super yachts dominated the harbour. We figured we should take a closer look so we walked along the piers and goggled at the sheer excess of some of the yachts – you could almost smell the wealth. After choosing our favourites, we walked ... read more

We've visited the Cotswolds previously, but it's such a stunning spot it's so easy to always want to see more! We booked a lovely hotel (The Frogmill) in Cheltenham, right on the edge of the Cotswolds for a Saturday night, it was a converted mill and our room was HUGE! Loads of room for Oslo to join us! ;-) We arrived early afternoon and after a cream tea with champagne (the only kind really!) at the hotel, we had grand tourist plans, ok maybe Bunny had grand plans, for the Saturday afternoon. Instead, we ended up whiling the afternoon away in the delicious sunshine in the lovely hotel courtyard with drinks and books in hand. For dinner we ended up driving all over the place looking for a picturesque pub, only to end up driving through ... read more

Easter weekend. Our first holiday away since we flew back in from Africa and Oslo flew over in March... so we were definitely taking him with us. Not sure where to go at first, we finally found our spot after a few searches (thanks Google!) - Torquay in Devon. We'd heard great things about Devon and the so-called 'English Riviera' so sounded like somewhere we should head. I think we got the best Easter weekend weather in years, in either UK or NZ. It was stunningly hot summer weather and so we were really able to make the most of our weekend. We found a B&B right in Torquay that was dog friendly (one of the best things about the UK) ;-) It was walking distance to shops or beach in either direction. We spent the ... read more

Cameroon: Our last country of this trip! We didn’t get across into Ekok, Cameroon, until about 5ish as it was already quite late when we arrived at the Nigerian immigration point; the Cameroonian side wasn’t too bad, however the huge mass of black clouds looming over head were very ominous! Then suddenly, the very second we were officially entered into Cameroon, the heavens opened and we were suddenly under the most torrential downpour most us have ever witnessed, sheets of rain, flashes of lightning and booms of thunder were everywhere – it was just magical, especially as we found a ‘hotel’ (we use the term loosely!) just at the end of town, so we could all sleep inside (four to a room) and sit in the bar and enjoy the light show in the sky. The ... read more

Ah Nigeria: a country whose most famous export must be email scams. Its reputation seems to precede it - everyone’s heard about ‘dodgy’ Nigeria but it was time to have a look ourselves. The first afternoon we drove roughly 50km and were stopped a crazy 14 times by “PUS” – our nickname for ‘Police Unofficial Stops’ given that most of the ‘Police stops’ don’t appear too official at all. They are usually just nosy, want to look around the truck etc and though they are always carrying large guns and rifles, they are very infrequently in any sort of uniform at all. The shortest distance between two police stops was 47 seconds of driving time. One time they stopped us and wanted to check all our headlights worked.... whilst some of the most dilapidated cars in ... read more
