Quite a few locks overnight…. A leisurely breakfast and lots of conversation with new friends…. (Do get a little overwhelmed sometimes with the ongoing socialising) …. Had a great glassblowing demonstration on board at 10.30 which merged into lunchtime… had lunch then off the boat at Miltenberg around 1pm and onto a coach for ‘Meet The Aristocrats’ had a nice drive up the valley to the Barons House (old castle) on the hill …. A great couple and lots of time spent with questions a glass of bubbly and a tour through his house … about 4 pm we travelled back down to Wertheim and had a walking tour of the old town and back on the boat about 6 pm and onwards up the river enjoyed a nice dinner and pub style quizz night.... read more

Up early to enjoy the Rhine Gorge a bit damp and misty … tones of castle ruins and small villages ….More food at lunchtime and off the boat around 1pm for Siegfried’s Mechanical Cabinet Museum transported to and from on the Winzerexpress Mini Train. After the tour of olde world musical contraptions we wandered up to the cable car and rode up the valley of vineyards to the top and back down again. Had a look around the old town and back to the boat at 4.30 pm. Enjoyed some pre dinner drinks and another great dinner !!! Back up to the Jasper Lounge for Tomy Temerson and his Zither a 44 string harp style guitar.... read more

COLOGNE Germany ran aground briefly at at 4am …. A cruisy morning and caught up on some bills and the special vote process we submitted our votes and enjoyed the scenery and all the small villages and boats locks etc …. Had lunch and docked in Cologne … we all disembarked on our free choice excursions… we went up to the cathedral and had a great tour much more relaxed (than the bus) and informative with time to spare and look around more of the town …. Saw all the padlocks on the bridge over the river …. The ship has finally sailed! At 6:30 this morning we started down the Danube River towards Passau. I was having coffee on our little veranda when she started to move. How beautiful it was watching the lights on the shoreline glide past in the dim pre-morning. It wasn’t very far to Passau and the ship spun around in the middle of the river so we could disembark onto the Old Town side. Following a delicious buffet breakfast, off we went on a guided walking tour. I love the audio receivers because I wear my headphones to hear the guide clearly without any background noise. Old Passau isn’t very big but it sure is old. It was founded 2,000 years ago by the Romans but archeological excavations found artifacts that were considerably older. In pre-historic times it ... read more

I will start today to telling you about our entertainment in the lounge last night. There were three professional opera singers/actors and a skilled pianist to accompany them. Their performances were absolutely stunning and they made it even more entertaining by adding humour to their singing. They were interactive with the audience and everyone was impressed with them. Early start today at 8 a.m. on the bus to take us back to Regensburg. As I mentioned before the water level was too low for the ship to start the tour in Regensburg so we were bussed back to Regensburg for our tour. There were several different group guides to choose from and I truly believe we chose the best one. A young woman in traditional costume who was animated and enthusiastic about her job. Jennifer spoke ... read more

The travel day is always uneventful, long and uncomfortable. Our first adventure in Toronto airport was the automatic check in machines wouldn’t print our baggage tags. We kept trying different machines and every time we received another boarding pass but no luggage tags. Finally we had to get in a long line to have assistance. While we were waiting in line, we observed three different parties who were denied entry on the plane. Not sure why - seemed to have something to do with their passports, but I felt bad for them. After purchasing airline tickets, waiting in line for a long time to be told you couldn’t get on the plane must have been very disappointing for them. Likely they had family or friends waiting for them at their destination. The flight was typical with ... read more

My feet have become itchy again and I’m off on a new adventure. Oct. 6 I leave on the big ol’ jet plane from Toronto headed for Munich to meet up with a Viking river cruise ship. My cruise companion is Anne Smith (Mary Anne Smith - no relation). Our departure on the Danube actually leaves from Regensburg and winds its way through Germany, Austria and eventually into Hungary. I am looking forward to parking my suitcase and not having to move it until the end of the cruise. That will be a nice change from the touring I have done in the past where we move every day or two to a new location requiring the packing up of the suitcase and setting it out for the bus. This way the ship moves and takes ... read more
