Linda G planned ahead and booked us a tour of Cannes, Nice, Monaco and Monte Carlo with Dream Tours and it was a really great choice. After tendering to the dock in Cannes, 9 of us piled into the Mercedes Limo for our tour of Villefranche. The tour was booked for 8 of us, but Pam hitched a ride into Nice so that she could find a special restaurant that she had visited the last time she was there. She had been dreaming about it and was lucky enough to find it again and was not disappointed. Fred, our driver and tour guide, drove us past the palace of the Cannes Film Festival. It had just been held and they were busy taking down the barriers. We then drove directly to Nice and made a stop ... read more

We decided that we'd get up early and try and pack in a full day of sightseeing. We almost got run over about three or four times on our way to the train station in town. The drivers aren't to be trusted, even at zebra crossings and red lights you've got to look twice and it doesn't help that the cars are on the wrong side of the road. Left is right, right is not right. France were having train strikes while we were there which meant angry people and delays. We didn't have it too bad, but it was a crap time for a strike with the Cannes film festival and Monaco Grand Prix on. We decided that we'd check out Antibes before heading on to Cannes. Antibes is a small medievel town built inside ... read more

I had a number of visitors the other weekend! It was the very beginning of May and first, Grammy and Papa stopped by during a cruise they were taking around the Mediterannean. That was really nice to see them! I walked down the the port where they were tendered in and found them without a problem. It took awhile for them to be tendered in but the weather was nice so I didn't mind waiting. We ate breakfast at a cafe and then walked back to my school where I showed them where I'd been living for the last three months. I think they were impressed, especially with my room, I do love my room here. Then we walked back into town where I gave them the tour of the Suquet and Cheap Street, which is ... read more

The 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival began last Wednesday. It's been really interesting how much the city has changed in the last few weeks! Within two weeks many restaurants had put up additions that pretty much doubled their size. It definitely is turning into tourism season too! It had been getting busier and busier down by the palace where the festival takes place and now it's crazy! Wednesday was the first day of the festival so our school had a meeting about what to expect and how we can see some of the movies. We did get a pass which allows us in to certain movies, we just have to wait in line for awhile in order to get in. Other movies require invitations, which are given out on a fairly regular basis at both the ... read more

Another morning, another breakfast of baguettes, jam, and coffee...I am so ready to be done with baguettes, paninis, and anything bread related at this point. At least this was our last day in France and we had better food to look forward to in Italy. After breakfast, we boarded the train to Cannes which was a quick trip from Nice. The weather in Canne was absolutely beautiful, and I could picture the stars here for the film festival. We walked along the waterfront and then sat outside to enjoy some relaxation and sun. After we were thoroughly roasted, we decided to cool off by playing the slots in a casino. And then we remembered that gelato is so refreshing and can also having cooling effects...so two scoops of gelato for me please. When we had had ... read more

This is what the school is like! There are some things that are pretty different than schools in the US but some are similar. My room is a pretty good size, its really narrow but long and it has lots of storage space, when i first saw it i didnt know if the closet would hold all my stuff but it does with room leftover! there is a sink in our room, which ive never had before but its pretty nice to not have to share a sink with twenty or so other girls! the showers and toilets are right across the hall from my room so its not too bad to walk to and i havent really had a problem with cold showers or anything luckily! the toilets are definitely smaller than those in the ... read more

Here are some pictures of Cannes! I wasnt expecting to be living in a place with palm trees! The weather has been great here so far! It rained real hard one day a week ago, but otherwise it has been in the 60s, I still need a jacket but I wont complain! My project director took us out to dinner the second night here and showed us around the city. She showed us La Sucée, which is the oldest building in Cannes. We then walked around the shops and saw where the Film Festival will be. The next day I went on a tour of Cannes with the other Americans at this college, they are in a different program than me so I cant go on a lot of their excursions but I managed to tag ... read more

In France for five nights and quite possibly put on five kilos thanks to the fab bakeries here! But is also has been the most frustrating time for us. We first arrived in Chamonix from Geneve, we had enough of the big city's after one day and headed right back up into the Alps on the France side this time. Also here is the largest mountain in Europe so we thought we had better check it out. Chamonix is another small village with 5000 ppl and of course very touristy but it is the off season so we were happy with that, but that also means that not everything is open and there is only one hostel open (not camping from last experience) and I didn't realise how lost we could get in a small town ... read more
