A glorious trip to Iceland with a group of friends consisting of 4 South Africans and 4 Aussies. Iceland, it seems, is a brilliant place to go for a swim - Silfra and the blue lagoon. Local food is another story entirely! The most spectacular moment was the Silfra dive - a dive in a crack between the American and Eurasian continents. The plates are drifting apart, apparently, at 2cm per year and the lake is made of melting water from a glacier so the visibility is unbelievable. It also proved to be useful when we were thirsty. The dive was all in a dry suit - a new experience for all, since the water was around a mere 3 degrees. And to continue on with Dan's 30th birthday extravaganza, haze took me to the south of France for the weekend!! We stayed in Nimes, in what was more like a beautiful museum / private palace than a hotel, called the secret garden. We travelled by car through many small towns and wineries in Provence - where some of my favourite reds live. Also stopped off for a few hours in Avignon, marvelled at the Pont du Gard and a 2,000y.o olive tree nearby. For the 2nd year in a row, I am lucky enough to be invited and flown over to the US.. To accompany the beautiful Michelle as her date! (A spot any man would be dying to have!!) The holiday starts with the extravagant dinner dance to theme-parks and malls galore.. While Michelle sadly has to work, I meet some lovely guests and we explore Orlando - filled with very different experiences to the usual European weekend (Daytona beach is worth a mention here) I have a fabulous time!
