wow. a lot has happened over the last few days. so we made it from Paris to Cannes witout any hitches, and just as we got off the train, I got a phone call from the agency to say I have the job that I had the interview for on Tuesday. I start at SCM Pharma on Monday 16th August, the day after we arrive back in the UK! How exciting! So we found the campsite - it was a bus journey uphill, but the bus was only one euro each, so quite cheap. On the first night we walked down from the campsite to the beach, all the way along the ridiculously long promenade and went into an Irish pub on the harbour for happy hour. That night was one of the hottest nights sleep ... read more

Well, guess what? We landed in Cannes right in the middle of the Cannes Film Festival. Beautiful people everywhere and as we came into the docks there was the Lady Moura. This is a huge yacht with real gold lettering everywhere and we were told it is owned by a Saudi who is the 7th richest man in the world ;-) As soon as we get less expensive internet we'll try to look her up! On to a walking tour and up the hill (of course at least a zillion steps) to THE church where the monks would have look outs to fend off the "pirates". There were baptisms going on with little children looking beautiful all in white. Flowers blooming everywhere. Although this was nice, everyone wanted to see movie stars, so down the hill ... read more

On our last day in Nice we checked out and took the train to Cannes. Unfortunately we were unable to stay in Cannes due to the festival. All hostels were booked and the cheapest hotel was starting at 200 Euro per night. We didn’t see anyone famous (that we recognised anyway) but the atmosphere was electric! We didn’t have time to see a film but we took our photo at the red carpet and then enjoyed drinks on the beach people watching. There were a lot of people there who were dressed to impress! There were also lots of handbag dogs wearing hair clips and scarves! As we were heading towards the train station we walked passed a hotel with lots of people crowding the enterance ready to get a snap of a star. We watched ... read more

Wednesday 27.1.210 day 105 Mougins village We had a sleep in and then did the 20 minute walk up a steep hill to Mougins old town. It was well worth the walk. No cars are allowed in the town and the streets are too small for cars. The views where fantastic there were art galleries on ever street and fantastic award winning restaurants. It felt very peaceful without cars sitting next to fountains and wondering around the old buildings. We had a fantastic time and then walked back down the hill to the pasterries were we got a baguette some croissants and a savoury bread for lunch. We sat our side on our balcony by the pool with a fantastic red wine. The we had a afternoon nap before starting dinner another fantastic French dinner. ... read more

We then went shopping in the local shopping centre (Carrefour) and went all out getting French food to try there was so much we wanted to try. We got lot of pre maid meals as the sauces are what make is special in French cooking and French food epically French seafood is my favourite. We got a French olive loaf that we had when we got home and then had fish with a Dijon sauce and potatoes with a garlic butter sauce. We had ... read more

Cannes, and the world's best dressed beggars The forecast was for rain all day and the morning sure started out as if it was going to pout all day. I woke up to the sound of rain. But after a while, the rain stopped and the sun came out slowly. At first just patchy clouds but by mid-morning, it was shinning brightly. A gorgeous day. Having already written off the day as an indoor day, I felt like it was a bonus day now. How many non-French speaking people know how to pronounce Cannes the right way? Traveling on the local train is great for learning to pronounce the town names as a real person announces each of the train stops. The famous film festival is there every year of course, so I expected to ... read more

We are fortunate again to have a hotel that is isolated and up in the hills allowing us another peaceful nights sleep. We are self catering so its back to scambled eggs again with our cereal. We have used the toast bread from Italy and we brought some French bread which is much better to toast. The plan today is to spend a few hours in Cannes and see why its so famous in the world of movies. Rather than take the road straight back down the hill to join the N7 to Cannes which is about 30km away we will take the road across to Grasse and then down the 'Route Napoleon'directly into Cannes. We were pleasantly surprised by the scenery around us yesterday when we arrived and took a short drive to the supermarket at ... read more

I met a whole bunch of people at my hostel last night. Which was great! this morning me and Christa were going to go and do the beach...but then we found out that all our friends were going to Cannes, so we changed our minds at the train station and headed there! On the way out we accidentally sat in first class (which is not much different, except for the table). We met up with our friends in Cannes. We must have looked like an interesting group: two Canadian girls, four Brazilian guys and one Irishman. We went to the beach and just hung out at Cannes. It was so much fun. Now its one of the Brazilian guy's birthday so we're hanging out in the bar in the hostel. Good fun! I only have ONE ... read more

I went to Cannes today. It was awesome! I also went to Antibes which is this beautiful mediterranean city. The best part was having lunch while four Spainish film workers of some sort were discussing stuff. Super cool. I also saw Quinton Tarantino and Juliette Binoche and an official red carpet. I went to the beach in my dress and just hung out there for a very long time. I'm not even burned (that much!). ... read more

After passing the perma-tanned packed beaches of St. Tropez and Cannes, the first campsite we found was practically on a building site. Either side of it for mile upon mile was nothing but a cheap casino and swathes of harsh pebble beach. After cooking our dinner of tomato and potato stew, washed down with ten of Lidl's cheapest beers, we went out to sample the night life. The night life happened to consist of sitting on a rough built rubble pier, listening to a coach load of Young Americans. Sat in the middle of Europe thousands of miles from home the most fascinating thing they could find in common was how, like, incredibly different their own accents were, "I do not, like, sound like that," "You, like, so totally do," "I do not, like, totally sound ... read more
