Since the last time that I have written I have flicked the tourist mode switch to the off position and flicked on the "r n r" switch. I have backtracked to the dalmatian island of Hvar in order to enjoy what I couldn't last time I was here. And boy oh boy am I enjoying it. I have settled into the daily routine of beach, nightlife and snoozing with a little food every now and then. Its a good lifestyle but has been taking its toll. I cant elaborate too much on the lifestyle right now, but all will be revealed in the future. ... read more

Day 1; Omis Pax for dinner; 22 (BBQ onboard) Everyone was thoroughly bonded by the time we even reached our first swimming stop, and I knew this would be a great group. When we arrived in Omis, I decided to postpone the fort walk until the next morning in order to bring Monica's group up too (they were late arriving in Omis, and Monica couldn't bring them herself with her hurt leg). So we all went to my favourite coffee shop for a drink, used the Internet, then came back to the boat for bbq and beers (and a Michael Jackson/Farrah Fawcett/Pirate part ). We went out to the bars for a few drinks that night too. Day 2; Makarska Pax for dinner; 22 (at Susvid) Good dinner at Susvid, good time at Marineta bar, then ... read more

So after much difficulty and confusion I finally met up with Richard! I was down at the harbour looking for him for 2 mornings...the first day he wasn't there because he accidentally told me the wrong day.....ooooops. *bloody forbes* The 2nd morning I was up at the crack of 9 again to meet him at the harbour....but again, to no avail. He was re routed into Zagreb and had to take a bus down from there....quite the ordeal he went through so I couldnt be too mad at him. When I didnt find him down there I took a ferry to the Island of Brac, from there I bussed to the city of Bol. This island was unreal....just gorgeous. It has that crystal clear water and white pebble beaches that you imagine when you think of ... read more

The new crew came aboard on Saturday and, after provisioning, we set sail on Sunday, heading south to Zut and the southern Kornati Island of Smokvica Vela, to eat at a restaurant from the Gourmet Sailing Guide. From there we headed north to sail through the desolate archipelago and spend the night on a mooring buoy at Mir in the national park. North of the Kornati islands is the Zadar archipelago which is more lush with many trees. We spent the night at a new marina in Veli Rat (which means large cape) then sailed a brisk beam reach to Pag, home of Paski Sir, tasty goat's cheese, and the famous Pag lace. From Pag we travelled north to the ACI marina in Rab where we now sit in a warm, dry pizza parlour waiting for ... read more

Day 1; Baska Voda (???) Number of pax for dinner; ??? So there we were, en route to good old Hvar, when the waves picked up and re-routed us. Captain Zvone said not to worry, we'd head to Makarska instead, but the clouds started moving in even more and we had to make an emergency landing (docking) in Nowheresville Baska Voda. The rain was torrential and after 20 seconds of being out in it, we were as soaking wet as though we'd just jumped into the sea, which a few pax did, despite the thunder and lightning ('grom y munja' in Croatian, in case you wondered). Thankfully, the pizza in that town was delicious and there was at least one bar open until midnight, so it wasn't a complete disaster. Pretty funny and random night. Day ... read more

After our long awaited BNO (big night out) we got an early ferry to Dubrovnik, now this was a ferry, a big ferry, so T was happy, the last two boats have been catamarans where you cannot go outside but with this ferry, outside was the only place you could go. We dumped our stuff in a corner, tying it on to the boat so it did not fall into the sea and chilled for the next 5 hours taking in the Southern Dalmati coast line. Dubrovnik is a beautiful town once described by Lord Byron as the jewel of the Adriatic. It was totally destroyed in 1991 by the Serbs and they have done an amazing job doing it back up. They even went as far as having it done up using old style methods. ... read more

Hi Guys! Well I can’t believe it’s all over and I’m writing this Blog to you. I can’t put into words what a brilliant time we had, despite a bit of rain and a few bouts of seasickness it was all smooth sailing! We arrived in Split on Friday 19th June (after a 6am flight from Gatwick) and had a lovely guy show us round our Apartment. Once we’d dropped our stuff off we all met back and headed to a Pizzeria right on the beach that we ended up spending the entire afternoon at. It was the most amazing first day, scorching hot and everyone was excited for the week to come. By 10pm we were all pretty sunned out so headed to a local Restaurant for Dinner and said Hello to Rhiannon who arrived ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Split June 15th 2009

Well I have fallen in love with the city Split which is the central hub on the dalmation coast. I have found a wonderful little hostel just 10 minutes from downtown, its called the 3 turtles because of the turtles that run wild in the main courtyard....quite neat. There are some really people that I have met here and we have had a great time spending evenings walking through the central boulevard. It is festival season here so there are street performances throughout the evening. The last couple of nights we have grabbed some cheap wine and walked up and down the boulevard....watching shows and checking out the occasional pub. So much fun...its been a blast. The past 3 mornings I have walked a couple hours to find a different beach. Split is filled with wonderful ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Hvar June 14th 2009

Hvar We left Split on our first boat of the trip and headed to the island of Hvar. The Croatian islands have the look and feel of Italy's Amafi coast and the Greek islands but more bite than them, once again, we love Croatia. Hvar is the sunniest place in Europe (apparently) receiving 2724 hours of sunshine each year. Hvar town is gorgeous; it is built within 13th century walls of medieval Hvar. It is marble paved, like split and most old towns in Croatia and very slippery. We were going to camp but we went the wrong way and got fed up of looking for the camp site so we followed two other backpackers who were heading to a hostel, The Green Lizard. It turned out it was fully booked but we got offered an ... read more

Day 1; Sipan Number of pax for dinner; 24 (bbq on boat) The crew had not planned a bbq that night but I asked them to do one as I think it's a nice thing to do in little Sipan. The crew on the Javorak are great, and not money-grubbers at all so they rarely ever offer anything that involves money unless asked. We had just dropped anchor for our swim stop, about 10 minutes away from the lovely little island Sipan. Shannon dove into the water from the middle deck of the boat (which is allowed by the captain) for his first swim in the beautiful Adriatic. When he came out of the water he knew immediately that something was wrong with his shoulder. I was in the water with him and went inside right ... read more
