Day 1; Baska Voda (???)
Number of pax for dinner; ???
So there we were, en route to good old Hvar, when the waves picked up and re-routed us. Captain Zvone said not to worry, we'd head to Makarska instead, but the clouds started moving in even more and we had to make an emergency landing (docking) in Nowheresville Baska Voda. The rain was torrential and after 20 seconds of being out in it, we were as soaking wet as though we'd just jumped into the sea, which a few pax did, despite the thunder and lightning ('grom y munja' in Croatian, in case you wondered). Thankfully, the pizza in that town was delicious and there was at least one bar open until midnight, so it wasn't a complete disaster. Pretty funny and random night.
Day 2; Mljet
Number of pax for dinner; ???
Rain rain rain rain rain...
Mljet is not the best place in the country to be when it's raining, so it wasn't a big hit with the pax. Some of them hired quad bikes and scooters, others ventured into the park, and others just hung out in the hotel and felt waterlogged. A
group of pax went to the pizza restaurant near the boat, and I took 4 pax (and Robbie) to a little konoba with a fireplace for nice seafood risotto and pear brandy. The grom, munja and 'kisa' (rain in Croatian) were crazy all night, so we comforted ourselves with playing drinking games on the boat. I think a lot of the pax wished we could've altered our itinerary to go with the weather, and I wish we had also; we skipped Makarska (because we had that random night in Baska Voda), which many people had been excited to see with it's cave bar, and markets and everything, in favour of sticking to the itinerary and going to Mljet, which is really boring in the rain. It's always the captain's decision where we go, of course, but I think the tour would've been better if we'd made a few last-minute changes.
Day 3; Dubrovnik
Number of pax for dinner; 23 (at delicious Aquarius)
The wall walk was good, and then we had a good amount of free time in Dubrovnik (most people went straight to Mirage bar in the afternoon). Dinner at Aquarius was great (it is by far
the best of the three restaurants in Dubrovnik), and then we went back to Mirage for more cocktails (everyone loves that place). John from Fresh put on a party for us, which most people enjoyed but some found the venue a little too small and went back to Mirage. When that party ended, we went to Exit Club for the official after-party, but the police came and closed it down at midnight, thus beginning our night of bizarre run-ins with the Dubrovnik police/mafia. One guy on my tour asked a cop for directions and the cop beat him up. Another girl was harrassed by a man in the old town, and she found a cop to help her. But instead of bringing her back to the boat like she asked him to, he brought her to the police station and breathalyzed her and kept her there for 2 hours! When he finally brought her back to the boat, he told me he still needed a copy of her passport for whatever reason, so I went back to the station with him because she was too upset and just wanted to go to bed. Thankfully, the waiters from Mirage had driven me home and were still there when this all happened, so they accompanied me to the station to make sure everything was okay. I was there for about an hour, and had to show my passport too (so hopefully they don't track me down and deport me!). Everything was okay in the end, but I think I owe those waiters from Mirage a few thank-you drinks this week!
Day 4; Korcula
Number of pax for dinner; 23 (at Caenazzo, which has now changed from being our pizza place to being our lasagna place)
All good in Korcula, except for the weather, which was still crap.
Day 5; Hvar
Number of pax for dinner; 23 (picnic)
Leave it to Hvar, the official "sunniest place in Croatia", to show us our one and only sunny day of the tour! I asked our Captain to stop at that amazing beach bar and everyone loooooved it (amazing iced coffee there, by the way). Picnic was good, Carpe Diem was a major hit (the bartenders pulled out their serious bar tricks this week), Kiva Bar was great as always, and I tried to pull out the tour-guide free entrance card at Veneranda, but seeing as I only had 2 pax with me at that point, it didn't work and I had to pay the 50 kuna cover charge (worth it, though).
Day 6; Omis
Number of pax for dinner; 19 (Captain's Dinner)
All good. Met up with Carlos, Monica and Robbie. No one on any of our boats was very keen for a crazy pirate party, though.
Day 7; Split
Number of pax for dinner; 23 (Golden Gate)
Didn't get to climb to the fortress in Omis this morning because, surprise surprise, it started raining just as we set out. So we went to the Mirabel fortress instead. And then, as the news broke that the most famous person in the world had just died, we had a Michael Jackson tribute party on the boat. R.I.P Jacko.
All good in Split.
