Gah, I'm going completely nuts... Today I tried out 4 different suitcases and after packing and unpacking and packing and un... I finally found the best one and weighed it... It was TOO heavy!!!!! So unpacking it was again and getting rid of unnecessary ballast. My heart is bleeding... I have to leave behind loads of grand clothes...Some essentials like an additional towel and most terrible, some pairs of SHOES have to stay behind as well... *sob* And after all those sacrifices it was still too heavy! Finally I ended up weighing HAIRDRYERS!!!!!! and packing the lighter one... I weighed hairdryers... I can't believe I did that... That's sooooo sick!!!! I still can't imagine you're allowed to take 23kg, only... I'm going there for a month... 4 weeks!!! It's impossible to pack everything needed for a month's ... read more

There seem to be a lot of ‘Burgs’ in Germany - and this one you would definitely have heard of; it is the town where Mozart was born, and where they filmed scenes from the ‘Sound of Music’. It’s Salzburg! That was our destination today, but first we had to get there. This was pretty straight forward, considering it wasn’t too big a drive from Innsbruck. We disembarked from the bus, two and a bit hours later, into the rain (I was wearing sandals - I always manage to have them on when it’s raining) and we headed into the famous filmed courtyard. I know that Simone would have loved seeing the sights before me (as she is a BIG ‘Sound of Music’ fan) and we did dress up as naughty nuns for her hen’s night! ... read more

With the plan to head through to Austria, it was another early start to reach Innsbruck. Iz and I got the departure time wrong though, and were sitting in our room while everyone else was on the bus - whoops! Thankfully, the owner came looking for the key, found us, and let us know that the bus was ready to go…we got down those stairs fast! It was good to stop after a couple of hours in Liechtenstein - still part of Switzerland. We didn’t expect there to be that much on - after all it was a Sunday morning and BLOODY early, but there was a little bricker brack market, so we took a stroll around that. It was set right below the intimidating castle that peers down from the hill over the town. I ... read more

...Then send me back to Gimmelwald. That is the quote of the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald. Gimmelwald is more then 2000 feet up in the Swiss Alps. There really is no words for me to explain the beauty and peacefulness of this place so I won't even try. If you haven't seen my pics of Gimmelwald on my Flickr site (Username phished22) then check them out. I also want to get a little bit caught up in my blog so I will just tell you I also visited Salzburg Austria for a couple nights. This is where Mozart was born and also where the Sound of Music was filmed. Wasn't my favorite place though. Everyone seemed a bit to high class for this traveling bum. So what is this blog going to be all about I ... read more

Internet is very expensive here, so this will be a quick one! After Munich, I got the train to Innsbruck, which is where I wrote my last entry, after I got my results! It was nice, I just chilled out for a few days- it´s all been a bit crazy with BusAbout, staying in Aussie hostels with bars! Then I came to another Aussie hostel with a bar in St Johann!! It´s a BusAbout stop near Innsbruck, and as I was nearby, I arranged to meet a girl that I met in Salzburg. It was raining the day we got here, so we didn´t do much except walk around the town, which is quite small. We did go to the supermarket though and actually COOKED a meal!! It was very exciting!! Yesterday, we got a cable ... read more

I love vienna.. I didn't think I would, but I think it's a very underrated place. I've been fortunate enough to have been to vienna twice, the first time was to visit my friend stephanie. I wanted to visit her in austria, and vienna seemed like a convenient place to meet up. When we had went, we went to go see 2 museums in vienna: the kunsthistoriches, and the belvedere. the kunsthistoriches is the historical art museum, while I wanted to go to the belvedere to see the gustav klimt exhibit. (i LOVE gustav klimt) I remember the kunsthistoriches had some paintings by caravaggio. the belvedere i remember has slightly more modern art. Both museums were MASSIVE.. both were gigantic palaces probably going back to the days of the hapsburg empire. Vienna is a really cool ... read more

The evening we arrived in Vienna we had dinner and then went to a Classical Mozart and Strauss show which was surprisingly good, they even had some opera and ballet in there. We spent the following day eating cake and visitng the Hapsburgs Summer Residence (the royal family). That evening we visited a Schnapps Museum and did lots of Schnapps tasting before having dinner at Rieglerhutte -a viennese restaurant in the woods. We were entertained by an amusing host named Hans and his acordion playing friend named Wolfgang. ... read more

Our train trip to Vienna took us through the Czech countryside and another set of passport stamps before we arrived at a more German looking railway station in Vienna. Strangely Vienna seems has main stations, on different sides of the city, and our accommodation was near a different station to the one we arrived at. This meant we needed to go for a short ride on a tram. Interestingly, like we experienced in Belgium, this tram spent some time going underground through the central city area. The next morning we first collected our Grand Prix tickets for Monza (the people we ordered them from were based in Vienna) then we took the advice of the Lonely Planet and took the #1 tram which goes in a ring around the main town centre. (Kind of like our ... read more

Today we are leaving Prague and moving on to Vienna. We have had a great time here although the crowds of tourists have been a bit challenging at times. Our accomodation was also a bit disappointing - the room was sooo small about 20cm either side of the bed. so we have been falling over each other for the past 4 nights. but in a great location right near charles bridge and the old town which has been good. never the less we have enjoyed the sights here - prague castle up on the hill - very impressive. the old town with gorgeous old buildings and cobblestoned streets, the charles bridge änd also the old jewish area. the highlight for me -Sarah- was going out to Cesky Krumlov yesterday. we couldnt go on monday as the ... read more
