Jani 2411 - Janine Gruber

Janine Gruber Hey there! After 8 years of studying, studying and studying, finally my finals in the pocket, I'm about to go on my first (of hopefully maaaany!!) adventure! Yeeha, Australia I'm coming! Despite all the interesting though nasty things (mostly crawling around on too many legs or slithering without legs... or having x-tremely deadly fangs and talons.. poisonous plants...) that could kill you in many interesting though nasty ways, I'm really looking forward to exploring Down Under...

Want to find out what's going on there, hang in with me!!!

Awwwww.... it's almost over.... 'cry' I want to stay, but so far no willing male specimen has shown up to provide me with a visa, so back home it is.... I can only say that Cairns and its surroundings are a great place and more than worth a visit. I've been here for a full month but am far from having seen everything. I couldn't say what I liked best about this stay, there's just so much I haven't even started to fully take in and so much amazing stuff to chose from... But after zooing, tattoing, a lot of mooing [View Full Entry]

Yeeeeeeahhhhhhh!!!! I went to the zoo yesterday, the tropical zoo in Palm Cove to be exact, and I loved it!!!!!! It was definitely one of the highlights of my stay... And guess what! I cuddled a Koala, lots of Kangaroos and Wallabies and a Wombat... well, I didn't exactly cuddle the wombat, but I could pet it... cranky little buggers... But the Koalas were amazing and they had a maternal station with baby koalas.... they're called joeys... and I saw a breeding cassowary and dingoes and cockatoos and budgies and parrots and snakes and lizards and emus and frogs and kookabooras [View Full Entry]

On the Wallaby

 Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns
New weekend, new trip! This weekend, Alina and I went to the Tablelands!!! We saw a lot of preety cool and amazing stuff! We swam in a crater lake, jodled into a volkanic crater, that's filled with brown/greenish goo and noone's ever seen the bottom of it... so, could go anywhere, all the way through to Austria, or wherever.... We saw the most photographed falls of Australia, the Milaa, Milaa (means a lot oof water), Falls. The water was fucking freezing and finally I understand what Leo DiCaprio was talking about in Titanic (1000s of needles piercing your skin, eh...)... brrrr, [View Full Entry]

After my nightwalk I caught up with my travel buddies and went back to the beach where we just lstend to the soft whooshing (movie subtitles rulezzz!) of the waves and gazed at the stars above... It was sooooooooo romantic... The stars looked so close, just like you could chose one and pick it from the sky... "right, I'll stop it" But it was really beautiful, and really late when we returned to our rooms and that made it a dam tough thing to get up at 5 in the morning to return to the beach to see the sunset... which [View Full Entry]

Trip to Cape Trib

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns » Cairns City
After Cow Bay we moved on to our second destination: Cape Tribulation in the Daintree Rainforest. There we tucked our stuff away in our accomodation for ight, a nice back packer's hotel... And on we went to the beach where my male companions went all gatherer and hunter, trying to get a coconut down from a palmtree... When it wouldn't come down by shaking the tree as hard as they could (not at all), they tried to throw things at the cocomuts... veeeeery effective, it took them only half an hour to get the nut... lol and how proud they were... WOW at Cow Bay!!!!

 Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns
Oh my God, that weekend was just amazing!!!!I just don't know what to describe first or how to do it because nothing I could write here, or any foto I would show you (if it was working , it still isn't... bugger) would do the things I've seen justice... But let's start at the beginning! We had an early start at 8 o'clock at the car rental where we picked up our off-roader.... huge car... very niiiice.... the boys were over the moon! So after a short photo session, off we went to our first stop at the supermarket to buy [View Full Entry]

snorrrrrrr!

 Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns
I am soooooo tired!! I'm definitely getting to old for being up and about all night... 'gg' We went to the Woolshed... again... Nothing out of the ordinary until about 50 dubious looking people in togas appeared on the screen... Later I found out that those bed-sheet-clad fellows had been at a toga party at another place and had decided to change location, anyway, they didn't bother anyone, well, not until some of them crossed Alina's and my path... We were just coming down the stairs in the Woolshed to go outside for a smoke when some of those pseudo-greek/Roman/whatever- blokes [View Full Entry]

Finding Nemo

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns » Cairns City
Hyjah!!! Back from the Reef! The day started out nicely with coffee on the Catamaran 'the Ocean Spirit' which took us to the East Reef about 1 and a half our from the coast of Cairns... It was a bright, sunny morning ( so it didn't look too suspicious that I was wearing sunglasses all the time due to the extensive consummation of a regional drink on the previous night... Mango, pureed with crashed ice and bacardi... highly addictive, but that stuff is wicked... you don't realize how much alcohol is in there until it hits your system...)... Yeah, so the [View Full Entry]

Clubbing...

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns » Cairns City
Hey folks!! I have soooooo many things to tell, but if I did, my mum would probably send someone over to fetch me back home.... Because, y'know, a lady never kisses and tells.... "cheekygrinning" On Tuesday we all went to Woolshed, a great club in Cairns, Centre, where we became witnesses of our first Goldfish-race! The final result: Sushi won, Nemo became second, right in front of George W. Fish... 'not kidding' Alina and I missed out on the Miss wet-T-shirt contest ( I didn't want to follow in "someones!!!!" footprints...'insider') but we still had loads of fun... "morecheekygrinning" And I [View Full Entry]

over the clouds
over the clouds
the sunrise was sooooo beautiful....
Hey, guys!!!!!! I've finally arrived in Cairns!!! I loved flying with British airways!!! The first thing I heard when I stepped onto the plane was "Hello, Dear, thank you for joining us!" in perfect British from a cute british flight attendant!! "gg" And they had excellent entertainment: a Robbie WIlliams Channel on board-TV!!! Yeah!!! Then (after total panic because my flight to london was delayed) I arrived at Heathrow and had only 20 minutes left to board my connecting flight.... On my flight to Sydney the nme of the first flight attendant was Alice McLeod (gg), I reaaaaaally had bite my [View Full Entry]
