So my folks and Uncle have taken to reading about my time in Honduras on my friend Sarahs blog, seeing as how I seem to be quite the slacker when it comes to this. Really, you should check it out, at least for the pictures, especially those from the folkloric festival, she's got some great ones. www.travelblog/bloggers/swillett As an early new years resloution I have decided to get better at writing my blog, in order to do so I must get past this giant hurdle and write about Utila, a trip I took way back in September!! This way I can finally write about things that are more recently happening. So this will be quick as I have already tried to write this 2 times and lost it, getting a little frustrated. Utila rocked! Thursday morning I woke up to a clogged toilet. I realised I had done it the night before. I still haven't got used to the fact that we don't flush toilet paper in the country. I think I forgot to mention that before in any of my earlier entries. You are simply meant to throw your used toilet paper in the trash can. All bathrooms will have these for that reason. So after I asked in my best Spanglish for a plunger (I was able to say everything except "plunger" in Spanish), I fixed the problem (without even waking Chris!) and was not able to go back to bed. It was about 6am, so I decided to sit out on the porch of the hotel at a table and continue in my reading of my diving ... read more

Rising, like always, before the sun does, we got up and ready to go catch the 9 a.m. ferry that was a walk, a bus ride, and a taxi ride away. I would just like to add that it only took me 40 minutes to take a shower and get ready and I was ready to go on time! Like I said in my last blog, anyone who knows be knows that that is quite the accomplishment for me. I think the Caribbean is a good influence :) La Ceiba is much more hot and sticky than Comayagua and we felt its full effects while walking around and waiting for buses. After we left the hotel, we caught a bus downtown in order to catch another bus that would take us out to the ferry. However, ... read more

Wednesday started bright and early. We caught the local bus (which is actually just a school bus) to the middle of town where we waited for a bus to the Ferry. We waited... and we waited. There were many buses but none to the Ferry, so we ended up taking a taxi. Once at the Ferry, we bought our round-trip tickets and waited for our boat. We realised that our boat was MUCH smaller than the one going to Roatan but was cute and meant not as many people, more choice of where to sit, and that the boat would go faster, therefore getting us there quicker. It was a pretty nice ride actually. It took us about an hour, but it was so nice to look out at the mountains in the distance and the ... read more

So i have managed to hurt myself, break my camera and slice my foot on some coral, all in 48 hours. with that said, i still love honduras!! this place is ridiculously cheap, we have been eating in really nice a resturants and staying in somewhat nice hotels, drinking a lot of rum and still only managing to spend like 25 dollars a day. About the knee, i wish that i could say that i hurt it doing something cool, ie skydiving, bungee jumping, but instead i won't lie and tell the truth, i hurt it playing hackey sack. as of late we have become quite the hippies and gotten really into playing hackey sack on the beach, so after a few cocktails, (okay a more then few) i dislocated my knee and got put on ... read more

Now I've been here in Utila for some time. Maybe 2 weeks? Time seems to fly away and I live day by day. After a very long 2 day bus trip straight from Costa Rica, I arrived here in Utila. I went straight to look around for dive shops but I couldn't make up my mind as all of them offered specific things, such as assisting on the whale shark boat or leading the dolphin tours. In the end there were too many good choices and I just needed a relax! So I went out to the Cays, where one dive shop has its hostel. It was great to get away and chill there for a few days, with no cars or motorbikes, and no parties or loud reaggeton. Very tranquilo!! I came back to Utila ... read more

Hola, We have made it to Roatan in the Bay Islands after a long 7 hour bus ride and a 2 hour ferry. THe bus was first class though, so it had AC and a movie. It was much better than the Greyhounds in the US. The sun is really hot here in Roatan. THe weather everywhere else has been 70's but now we are on the coast in the lowlands and it is HOT! We splurged and got the room with the A/C. Unfortunately, the electric company, which runs on power generated from a large deisel engine, turns off the electricity in town occassionally to conserve. Tomorrow we will take a refresher Scuba course in the morning and do a dive in the afternoon. Today, we will do a little snorkeling. There is a beach ... read more

Hello Time for a holiday. After months on the road.. without a break!! We were very tired.. so we decided to have 2 weeks in the Caribbean to relax. So we went straight to Roatan in The Bay Islands in Northern Honduras.. they are very beautiful... Just as you imagine a Carribean Island to be. It is an amazing place to dive too..I became totally addicted to it.. everytime I came back from a dive I would sign up for the next.. I am sooo lucky that my first dive in 6 years, what did I see? a shark!! the second dive.. I saw a turtle.. also saw toad fish, eels, lobsters, crabs, and millions of fish.. After a few dives I decided that I an open water diver wasnt enough I wanted to go on ... read more

What a wonderful week! As usual, could always be longer. The Bay Islands are great - lots of eye candy, lovely people to hang out with, hot but breezy so a perfect combination.. not to mention the myriad of hammocks to chill out in, funky bars, cosy BBQ restaurants with top nosh, and THE DIVING! Enjoyed various bar nights (although obviously not drinking too much as alcohol, boats, early mornings and diving don't really mix) at the Treetanic bar (see photo) with Elisa. Also called Jade Seahorse after the restaurant beneath it, it is a sensory overload of colour, shapes, tunnels, pagodas, tree houses, every size and shape of light, tinkling windchimes... fab fab fab. The other weird anomaly is the language - the islanders speak a kind of criolle mix datign back from the British ... read more
