Hey yall, The Good: Went for a fun dive yesterday with 2 instructors and a DM out to Black Hill. Went down to 25m or 75ft. I have been really lucking in my underwater life sightings. Saw 2 Hockbilled Turtles, a feeding Nurse Shark, and large Green Moray Eel. Plus plenty of Yellow tailed Jacks and the usual plethora of lovely little fish friends. i am in love with this diving thing. It is the peace and tranquilla i have been searching for, for a long time. All i need now is a female companion who shares the same passions. The Bad: So the unfortunate happened, I contracted a rash from a school wetsuit. Warning the rest is rather graphic: It forms as yellow headed blisters, which pop and form on a continuous basis. i had ... read more

So I finished my Advanced Open Water dive this moring. Last night I dove ot of the Parots dive boat into the dark waters above the Labrynth. I was a little freaked out t the possibility of seeing some nurse sharks or a barracuda but none materilaized out of the blue gloom. Granted I stck to my instructor die buddy very tightly. I lights illuminated the vid reds and purples of the coral and the odd bright yellow eyes of crabs and lobster. We spotted a gigantic Lobster thta could ave easily fille a large platter. Sorry buddy but I love sea food. At one point we sat on the sandy bottom and truned out lights inward to our bodes. Out of the ark, lights materialized like a Disney move of animals in the woods. There ... read more

I finished my class and got my dive certification yesterday. It was great. For the last three days straight, I have been doing dives in open water, meaning actual dives out on the reef on the open ocean. I have been doing two dives a day, and I have seen a ton of incredible stuff, including a sea turtle and an eagle ray. I have been taking to the whole thing pretty easily, and the dives have just been awesome. For the instructional dives, it was only necessary for us to to do a couple of minutes of instruction at the beginning of the dive, and then we had another 40 minutes or so to explore the reef. With the course, I got two free "fun" dives, meaning dives out on the reef in addition to ... read more

Not too much to report in this entry. I've been taking diving classes here, which has been occupying the majority of my time. The diving classes have been ok so far, although it is a little bit frustrating. We are spending a lot of time in the classroom and watching videos and stuff, and the only time we have spent in the water so far has been in shallow water, doing safety exercises. Because I've dived before in much deeper water, it's a little bit frustrating to start from the beginning again, although it is important. Tomorrow, we get to move on to an actual open-water dive, which I'm really looking forward to. I've been looking forward to getting to see some of the dive sites here on Utila, which are supposed to be absolutely incredible. ... read more

Another drunken night wondering from restaurant to bar to house party to bar again. Sure did the rounds last night. Ruminades at RJ's Grill, fantastic food, fantastic drinks. then down the road to a hopping crowd at Bundu Bar where there was a quiz in progress. The winners gave up the 1600 limperas to the bar and brought the house a few rounds. Good folks! Then over to a house party thta was literally cooking and the drinks were strong and cheap and finally to Tranquilla bar to dance a little dance. there was this amzazingly good dance couple I couldn't keep my eyes off of. And there was an Italian man dressed as a pirate sporting a pink weight belt as a sash. Then there was a couple who should really just get a room. ... read more

I'm finally on the good old Bay Islands of Honduras, where scuba diving is king. It was an interesting couple of days getting here, though. Yesterday, I got to the market in Chiquipula at 5:30AM to catch the bus to the border. After the border formalities, I caught a bus to Copan Ruinas, where I caught yet another bus bound for La Ceiba. This bus was fairly nice, but the big problem was that there was an accident on the highway that delayed us about two hours, causing me to miss my connection in San Pedro Sula. I hung out with an older couple who were also going to the Bay Islands, only to Roatan. We went to the "best shopping mall in Honduras" (not that great) and got some pizza at some Italian place (much ... read more

Well, I started my OW dive with Parrots dive shop. My amazing instructor is a dutch beauty named Alison. She is very good at what she does and the one on one lesson didnt cost me any more than a full course. So Thursday I started my video and had my first experience breathing underwater. I laughed my ass off and wasted a bunch or air. Couldnt help it. SO WERID. I am stoked. Had to take the night off from the non sop party. Oh did I mention thta it doesnt matter if it is Sat Monday or Wednesday there is always a party at the local bar which just happens to be right outside my $4 US hotel room and down the road from the best sandwich shop on the island which is a ... read more

our dives were cancelled for yesterday afternoon. one of my classmates became ill and the UK was playing in the world cup. my instructor is english so he could not fathom the idea of missing the game. we did our first two open water dives this morning. amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the first dive was a bit scary for me and i spent most of the 50 minutes underwater playing with my buoyancy and equalizing the pressure in my ears. so i did not enjoy it as much as the second dive. the second dive i was much more relaxed and more skilled with buoyancy. i was able to be fully present and to enjoy the brilliant sea creatures around me. at one point a large sea turtle swam up to the reef and started snacking on the reef. ... read more
